"The Water" is a good title. Memorable and appropriate. I've listened to the song a few times, and tried to be clever, but water is a basic, mysterious substance. It's the theme that connects the verses. No need to improve upon it.

I'm out for that. If that were how we named things, there would be no Frank Black.

"When in Rome" would be a perfectly decent title. But really, "The Water" is best. I keep thinking maybe this will be Frank first big hit single since ... well, "Los Angeles," if you can call that a big hit single. And if it has an easy-to-remember title like "The Water," maybe my local AAA station will give it a chance.

I'd say When In Rome is probably the best suggestion so far aside from "The Water", which I have no qualms about.

Frank suggested "Come On In the Water's Fine", which was not deemed good enough by EDF. Frank thanked Eric for "saving me from myself".

One other thing -- why does FB keep calling this a work in progess? It hasn't changed a lick (at least to my ear) since the first time I heard it, on the Cafe du Nord boot from March. Seems like only the title is a work in progress.

Yeah, maybe. But he often prefaces it with "It's a work in progress" before an acoustic performance, such as on a bunch of recent radio shows. I keep wondering whether he's joking.

It's had a good airing and like you say, "it hasn't changed a lick", so now I'm intrigued by possible changes. Oh to spend a day in Frank Black's head.

All will be revealed on a future record. Another reason to be cheerful.

I think that fbc has hit the nail. This song will probably get a full-band treatment at some point and I freaking can't wait.

Yeah it's an incredible tune. Can't wait to hear it with a full band.

Also, I think "The Water" is fine for a title. Plus it's been awhile and it sounds like it's rightful name now.

I was JUST gonna create a topic about that. Maybe it's not worth a topic. That was my favorite new song from the Cafe du Nord show. He did it in Brooklyn in August, I believe, but that's the only other time I know of.

He said on the bus that it's quite a hard song to play especially if you can't quite see what you're doing, which is why "we don't play it live".

So I don't think you have to worry about the Rabbit Hole. :)

I'm taking it you're not a Dillinger Four fan, eh?

I think the title should be "You Stole My Bowl of Socks" or "Waiter, There's a Glomerulus in My Jesus Burger!"

Agreed. It seems normal now, so I'd just stick with it.

i must re- nominate "La Zona Rosa." This song deserves five syllables. Like the begining of a haiku. try to out-justify that.

The first line of the song and the 'water' made me think of Mr. Grieves. Looking at those lyrics you could call it Neptune's Daughter. She could be the 'she' in the 2nd verse and if she's going to treat sailors that way, well you better keep away from the water.

At the Omaha show, he followed Mr. Grieves with The Water, and I noticed the similarity at the time. Mr. Grieves ends with "Hope everything is alright," and The Water begins with "I hope they're doin' OK." He seems to like to make clever transitions between songs -- like ending one song with a B-minor chord and then starting the next one with a B-minor chord -- so I assumed that's why he did that. No idea whether the songs are actually supposed to be related to each other.
