Since we've sort of inadvertently named this song, I thought maybe we should discuss potential titles for the song. What would you call it? I'll put this into the main page poll when I have some suggestions but I thought this might be fun.

Here's the lyrics:

Bring on the suggestions!

"Now you're officially my woman. Kudos. I can't say I don't envy you."

i would choose "the non-swimmer"

I think "I Best Kept Away" sums up the spirit but I prefer "The Water"

Don't be talkin' bout my daughter like that, I will smite you with my trident

At the Omaha show, he followed Mr. Grieves with The Water, and I noticed the similarity at the time. Mr. Grieves ends with "Hope everything is alright," and The Water begins with "I hope they're doin' OK." He seems to like to make clever transitions between songs -- like ending one song with a B-minor chord and then starting the next one with a B-minor chord -- so I assumed that's why he did that. No idea whether the songs are actually supposed to be related to each other.

The first line of the song and the 'water' made me think of Mr. Grieves. Looking at those lyrics you could call it Neptune's Daughter. She could be the 'she' in the 2nd verse and if she's going to treat sailors that way, well you better keep away from the water.

"La Zona Rosa"
Not too bad a name methinks
Here's a full haiku

Like "The Water" too
Simple, also relevant
More haiku for you

i must re- nominate "La Zona Rosa." This song deserves five syllables. Like the begining of a haiku. try to out-justify that.

Agreed. It seems normal now, so I'd just stick with it.

I'm taking it you're not a Dillinger Four fan, eh?

I think the title should be "You Stole My Bowl of Socks" or "Waiter, There's a Glomerulus in My Jesus Burger!"

I'm glad someone asked. If I'd been there, that'd be one of the (six million) questions I'd ask. Thanks, Dean.

He said on the bus that it's quite a hard song to play especially if you can't quite see what you're doing, which is why "we don't play it live".

So I don't think you have to worry about the Rabbit Hole. :)

"Now you're officially my woman. Kudos. I can't say I don't envy you."

I was JUST gonna create a topic about that. Maybe it's not worth a topic. That was my favorite new song from the Cafe du Nord show. He did it in Brooklyn in August, I believe, but that's the only other time I know of.

I just wonder what happened to that Rabbit Song.
martha_promise Posted - 11/09/2006 : 16:13:27
Yeah it's an incredible tune. Can't wait to hear it with a full band.

Also, I think "The Water" is fine for a title. Plus it's been awhile and it sounds like it's rightful name now.

I think that fbc has hit the nail. This song will probably get a full-band treatment at some point and I freaking can't wait.

vilainde Posted - 11/09/2006 : 15:34:03
maybe "A Work in Progress" is the name of the song?

Denis

fbc Posted - 11/09/2006 : 14:38:06
It's had a good airing and like you say, "it hasn't changed a lick", so now I'm intrigued by possible changes. Oh to spend a day in Frank Black's head.

All will be revealed on a future record. Another reason to be cheerful.
coastline Posted - 11/09/2006 : 13:26:16
Yeah, maybe. But he often prefaces it with "It's a work in progress" before an acoustic performance, such as on a bunch of recent radio shows. I keep wondering whether he's joking.

fbc Posted - 11/09/2006 : 12:58:48
Bass, drums, lead and whatnot to be added, maybe.
coastline Posted - 11/09/2006 : 12:23:26
One other thing -- why does FB keep calling this a work in progess? It hasn't changed a lick (at least to my ear) since the first time I heard it, on the Cafe du Nord boot from March. Seems like only the title is a work in progress.

Frank suggested "Come On In the Water's Fine", which was not deemed good enough by EDF. Frank thanked Eric for "saving me from myself".

maybe I'll kick it

I prefer "The Water"
OR...
"Keep Away" or "No Good"
