I've just ordered mine, still not sure if my DVD player will play it but I'm sure I'll find a way of watching it somehow. Even if I can't, there's still a CD with 20 tracks including, what, about 5-7 new tracks. The CD alone is probably worth the £11.99.

I've found a multiregion hack for mine on the internet, but I don't think I have any way of testing if it will work yet, since I think I only have PAL DVD's.
I guess I'll find out if it works in a couple of weeks.

I didn't like this much. You can read my comments on youtube, since I already posted two I'm not going to reiterate further.
Also, I'm not alone here. There's too much pixies on this new album. I could do with basically none, but instead we have three songs. Frank's material is so much better than basically anything would be an improvement over basically any pixies song. |

I must be the only one who says "meh" when Frank plays a pixies song live (solo, I mean). |

Also, don't get me wrong, I love the pixies songs, every one of them, but most of them are masterpieces as they are recorded. The songwriting simply isn't as good as Frank's subseqeunt stuff, and without the rest of the pixies to fill out the sound the songs go flat on their face (most of the time).
What can I say, Pixies are Pixies and Frank is Frank, but Frank is not Pixies, and Pixies are not Frank. |

I really liked it as an acoustic version. I think the final rocking version is a necessity too, but I'm really pleased with this video. I wish I'd seen it sooner, I'm listening on repeat now.

I think the chorus is too repetitive to really fit with the accoustic line, it's actually kind of annoying. The heavier version draws my attention away from the repitition in the chorus, and creates a generally "better" song. |

Just ordered my copy. This is great, I have this album to look forward to, the REM fanclub single on the way, Incubus just released a new album and Mofro has a new one coming out in Feb.

I have to say I disagree. The screaming vocals mixed with a crunching acoustic guitar on Wave of Mutilation make what possibly might be my favorite version of the song. Then UK Surf, then the original. |

It's a decent version, but it doesn't beat UK Surf or the album version. Seriously... |

And I have to admit it was the album version of WoM that originally got me into Frank Black music in the first place. |

Well, many of us are HAPPY about the ChRISTMASS record and loved that homemade "Gyanashwar" (however it's spelled) video. If you like the idea of this release, buy this sucker up and maybe Frank will put out more "for the fans" records like this.
Also the currency converter website I used said that 11.99 Euros is roughly $15. |

Uh... That's english pounds, not euros...
Marshall: you're definitely not alone in finding theer are too many Pixies songs in there. That said, it doesn't prevent me from being super-excited by this release.

Yeah, I can understand what you're saying about the Pixies songs. Nevertheless, I can't wait to own a version of restyled 'Wave'. Killer version.
Liking the Gyaneshwar too. |

The new Wave is amazingly good. On the other hand I'm not that thrilled about the latest versions of Cactus I've heard. No idea of how it'll sound like on Xmass though. The best acoustic Cactus I've heard was at the Paris gig at the Batofar on June 2003. Awesome.

I'm lost with this NTSC stuff. I have a Guitar Wolf DVD, imported from Japan, which says "All regions / NTSC" and it plays perfectly on my dvd player. I thought we could only view PAL format over here. Or is the region thing the only important part?

ARGH! Just noticed Headache was left off, I hadn't noticed Apesy's post. Why oh why? (that said, I wouldn't have liked to see any of the other tracks removed in favor of Headache)

Maybe the answer is that the dvd is running at NTSCs 60Hz (60 frames per second) instead of PALs 50Hz (50 frames per second)
That still doesn't doesn't answer the question about region codes, but it raises another problem: tube televisions in europe run at 50Hz, tube tvs in america run at 60Hz. Anyone playing the dvd on a CRT tv in europe won't be able to watch the dvd as it'll either run in black and white, or just flicker constantly. (Did you ever buy a video game where they give you an option of playing in 50Hz or 60Hz? Try it out 60Hz and see what happens)
BUT, since all HDTVs are universal (they can run PAL, NTSC, SECAM), if you watch the dvd on a HDTV it should be fine (the tv should configure itself automatically) Obviously not everyone has a HDTV, so where do you go from there...

Region codes and formatting are completely independent. Region-free DVD players do not necessarily play both NTSC and PAL discs - BUT, since they are intended for region 1 anyway, they usually do because a DVD player that can play Region 1 discs but outputs the wrong signal is pretty worthless.

The total cost, for me, was around 30 American dollars, because of the shipping/coversion of pounds to dollars. That is a bit higher than if it was sold in the US i suspect, but hey, for an FB CD/DVD, it is a bargain.
As for the chatter about too many Pixies songs - i understand the gripe - i think i've heard Cactus at every single FB/Pixies gig i've been to and i'm a bit sick of it - however, they are a part of FB's larger catalouge, and what i loved about the acoustic tour that this is drawn from was that FB was not neglecting any part of his career. You could hear a Pixies song next to a FMRM song, and then he'd bust out "Kicked in the Taco" - it was such a great tour because you never knew what was coming next. If he had neglected Pixies songs, it would've taken away from the unpredictability a bit. That's just my opinion...

We don't know for sure, but I went and ordered one from CV anyway. All indications are that, since it's mail order, there's not much use in having it spread on multiple labels, and so it probably will have to be ordered via CV anyway.
Plus, there's the whole NTSC thing as proof that they're planning to sell in this direction.
