I'm in Santa Monica and mine arreived on 30 Dec. I think the page numbers and shipping might have to do with the alphabetical order of your last name. I got page 4 and my last name begins with B. I ordered a week or two after the pre-sale started so I'm positive I wasn't the fourth person in line. Floop, does your last name perhaps start with Z? |

Why are some new songs credited by Frank Black while others are Black Francis? |

Page 9 of this thread onwards we started discussing this, I don't think we really came up with an answer though, apart from maybe FB is messing with us...

When you write a song, you have to register it. The same song cant be registred as two different writers (they would just tell you that exact title already exists). I dont think there is any joke or mess here. Just a technical / legal reality. Charles registred songs like "dont get me wrong" as Black Francis because he thought on the pixies album it should be credited to Black Francis. Probably someone already said that here, cos it obvious, but I dont understand why looking further in the subject. Or maybe I missed something more complex? |

I assume the reason would be something similar to Spime Songs v Rice & Beans Music.

I luv, luv, luv, luv Christmass. I love the graphic design. I love that the new songs are with old favorites. I feel so lucky that FB would do something this cool for his fans. The DVD rocks and I love how they were able to use different cameras. I've got to geek out on this one and memorize all the new songs b/c I love them so much after first listen!!!!!! |

Yes....Got mine here in San Diego yesterday!!! The DVD is especially a thrill. Sacramento 2006. It just so happens to be the first show time I've been able to see The Man live at. I was a little trashed at the time, but I stil remember standing just to the right of the stage for an excellent performance. After the show, being so twisted I tried to sneak backstage to see if Charles had left yet. No luck there, but it's nice to be able to revisit that night again anytime I'd like.

Got it on Jan 3rd. I like it, although like someone else said, production is not that great, I was expecting a better sound. Some live songs I got from the Net (Dead Man's Curve for example) sound much better than on C-Mass. Reminds me at times of FB/BF.
The strangest moment so far is on the DVD with a his version of Two Reelers. Quite funny actually.
My recollection of the Montreal show however, when he did his solo opening, was much more powerful, as if he matured his act quite a bit over time (which makes sense). But he didn't do any FB songs solo then.
quote: This is ridiculously trivial, I know, but did you notice that at the two Brooklyn shows, he sung the end of "Dead Man's Curve" differently? In the first show, he sings, "Got me a ticket / it means nothing to me." In the second show, it's "Got me a ticket / it means everything." And since then, he's always sung it that way. Not sure, though, if he was singing it the other way before Brooklyn and then switched that night.
Like I said, trivial. But I obsess about these things, and I have to get them out there so I can stop thinking about them. For what it's worth, though, the "it means everything" line is a million times better. It's like the singer realizes, in the end, that the speeding ticket validates his existence -- like a skateboarder who gets a citation for skating down the steps of City Hall.
I love this interpretation. I never caught the connection between "a ticket" and "a speeding ticket". A language thing, perhaps. |

Just for the record. I live in the U.S. and was looking on RickyGervais.com for his free videopodcast and somehow ended up in the U.K. Itunes store and while I was there I searched Frank Black and Christmass is on there. Just letting you guys know.

Just got the call from home telling me it arrived today. Seems I had to wait a little longer than most; is there anyone aside from floop who pre-ordered and still doesn't have it?

The last track on this is great, with Frank talking to the audience.
This is about 50 times the number of words I've heard Frank say to the audience in the eight times I've seen him put together. (When I've seen him, he never says a WORD, which is cool, too.) |

I think he talks much more the smaller the crowd is, or the less formal the setting. The most I heard him talk was Cafe Du Nord, which was like 200 people, and at the Cubberly Community Center, which was like 300 people and he was just walking around the auditorium before the show, buying a drink at the snackbar.
All the big shows it's just songs songs songs.
But as he says on the album, he can't hear what we're saying anyway, so why try to talk to us?

For those interested, it looks like "Christmass" will be directly available from Amazon France and UK soon (Feb. 5).

Can we talk about this some more? Remember the interview when violet interviewed him? My theory is that he was talking to Violet in the audience during that track. At one point you can hear a woman say "Charles You're hurting my feelings!" Whatcha think? |

It seems pretty obvious to me that the deluded drunk woman who keeps screaming for him to play "Pan American Highway" is the one who tries to guilt him into doing it with the "you're hurting my feelings" routine.

I finally got around to listening to the first disc. My first impression is very mixed. There are some great tracks. I especially love "She's My Way," which is the only new song where I feel the acoustic rendition does it complete justice. By the way, Frank, you've GOT to start miking your acoustic guitar rather than plugging it into the amp! Mark Mulcahy's voice is gorgeous, as always, and "Radio Lizards is certainly no exception. I really love the live versions of "Living On Soul," "I Burn Today," and "Massife Central" (the falsetto on the latter is even better than the version on the record!). Those are the three that stood out enough after two listens for me to actually list them. I really wish some full-band songs had been included. Anyway, it's very nice to finally have a DVD and (mostly) live CD of Frank.

The a capella version of 666 si the greatest he did. That kind of performance and the brilliant rendition of nadine and manitoba with the accordeon reminds me of David Thomas.
