Christmass made it to Mississippi on Dec. 30th. Awesome to finally have The Man on dvd. My favorite new track is Don't Get Me Wrong. Spellbinding stuff. Frankus, thanks for keeping our cupboards (and cd players) stocked with goodness. -FranknWeezer |

Has anyone else noticed that Don't Get Me Wrong's intro sounds like Valentine and Garuda but slower? |

I really hate being the last one to get stuff. If it takes much longer I'm going to send it back to CV and ask that they retitle the album LateMarchMass.

I'm afraid all US residents will have to wait at least another day if it hasn't arrived already - today is a postal holiday in accord w/ the Ford funeral.

anyone on the fence about buying the christmass album should buy it . I'm glad the wave of mutilation track is on there. as far as a performer messing with one of there fan favorites and coming out looking even cooler than before this is it. I'm happy to have the new stuff and two reelers on the dvd is great. |

I got mine the Friday before Xmas (my postman is not lazy and sports an Elvis hairdo).
It's really nice. That's the way to describe it, it just very pleasant. It's a good disc to have on in the background while you're doing stuff around the house. Even the Outakes/Shrimp Song is pleasant and funny to hear while you're paying the bills or something.
Don't Get Me Wrong and Radio Lizards are the best, but all the live stuff is great. I'd be happy to buy a disc like this at least once per year, with a bunch of live stuff and a few demos on it! It's a treat - I hope they didn't lose money on it, 'cause I'd like another one like this.

I'm waiting for the dollar to get stronger against the pound. I balk at the thought of paying $30 for an odds&sods collection, however cool... |

I got mine on the day of New Year's Eve. I like the audio portion very much. The DVD is a little too visually static, and repetitive of the live tracks from the first disc. I'll have to give that one more time.
I am somewhat disappointed that the new band isn't represented. I like acoustic Frank, and I'm glad to have this recording, but I'm hoping there will be a release before too long with the new members. They were a blast to see live, and as yet, I've found no bootlegs (audio or video) that capture their energy.
Just so I don't sound like a total curmudgeon, let me say that "Don't Get Me Wrong" and "She's My Way" were worth the $30 I paid to import the discs.
New music for my &$@#^+)! commute! |

I'm back in Minneapolis now, and just finished listening to Living On Soul. I'm loving it. Worth the wait. I can finally celebrate Christmas. And She's My Way is delicious. By the way, what are the various posts referencing page numbers about? I don't quite recall.

The post office is still recovering from the holidays. Seriously. While in college, I once worked at UPS for the holidays and "holiday mail" still clogs up the flow into the first week of January. I got my Christmass Saturday and was surprised it got here so fast. If you haven't gotten it by, say, Monday of next week, then I'd get concerned. |

The production on Don't Get Me Wrong and Radio Lizards is amazing. I wish these two new songs showed a new direction in wich Frank intended to go with his next album(s). But they seem to be more of a 'Frank Black Francis' type of deal (Frank recording vocals/guitar and the guys in the studio doing the rest) than anything else? |

While scouring the liner notes this AM, its nice to see that there are actually three NYC tracks represented: "Bullet," "Dead Man's Curve," and "Cactus." The version of DMC is especially sweet on this recording - i think i will always prefer this version to the full band version. I don't know why, but it just works so well in the solo-acoustic context.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't exactly say the production is 'amazing'. Sounds like demos. I think the strongest production would be Gyaneshwar, but even that sounds a bit sketchy in the quality department. I'm not saying I don't like the songs...I really like Gyaneshwar. But after repeated listenings, I must admit these are possibly the weakest and most boring Frank songs ever. Except for Gyaneshwar. I love it. Maybe Im just in a bad mood today.

Just got mine ! I love that I have some FB live stuff to listen to. But I feel even MORE priviledged that I saw him live in Montreal. Because his voice at that show compared to this cd was....ridiculous. Just perfect. Seems like his voice just keeps improving to me. I would be curious to know which songs these were done at. Probably towards the start of the tour. Practice clearly makes perfect !
Man I'm going to listen to this cd for the whole week !

This is ridiculously trivial, I know, but did you notice that at the two Brooklyn shows, he sung the end of "Dead Man's Curve" differently? In the first show, he sings, "Got me a ticket / it means nothing to me." In the second show, it's "Got me a ticket / it means everything." And since then, he's always sung it that way. Not sure, though, if he was singing it the other way before Brooklyn and then switched that night.
Like I said, trivial. But I obsess about these things, and I have to get them out there so I can stop thinking about them. For what it's worth, though, the "it means everything" line is a million times better. It's like the singer realizes, in the end, that the speeding ticket validates his existence -- like a skateboarder who gets a citation for skating down the steps of City Hall.
Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho? |
