Lou Reed, with "Sweet Jane", though the later version is live. It is a totally different presentation though. Speaking of Reed, a couple days ago I read about him putting on "Berlin" live and complete, with Steve Hunter.
edit: Pete Townsend also has done it through the years.

Frank Black: Velvety.
They care too much for the pixies proper identity. In 1990 when you listened to Bossanova you could have said : "Wait, yhis is not my pixies. It s all surf and soft." For trompe le monde a lot of people said it was turning into britpop. Make anything but NOT a pixies album. The pixies fan are not that old, they can still accept a bit of adventure. |

This sounds absolutely correct. Frank has a fun sense of humor.

I'm quite surprised to see Dead Man's Curve down as Black Francis. I'm just so used to it being played as part of this autumn/winter's tour I never contemplated the Pixies playing it. I can now. Could (have) be(en) fun to hear.
I'm not surprised with Don't Get Me Wrong. Kim's harmony over the top of Frank would have suited it so well, even though the FB version is just perfect without her and will always be the definitive, for me. |

I haven't received my copy yet, but it was mailed earlier this week. That is good news. In the mean time I received the REM Fanclub Christmas single in the mail today. It is very good and will tide me over until FB gets here.

aha, tempting as it is, I'll keep it all together. Like Dean said, I'll be all excited on xmas day now. And then I can post in this thread about how great it is. And ignore my kids.

I am pretty sure I read several few weeks ago that FB, EDF, Dwayne Jarvis & Bill Block recorded Dead Man's Curve + That Burnt Out Rock & Roll (plus maybe some other/s) in a studio somewhere. That's not to say the Pixies won't ever record it either some day, who knows...

On a FB related note, Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music did 2 versions of Re-Make/Re-Model.

Btw, what label is the CD/DVD on? I know it's been processed/distributed by Cooking Vinyl, but are they actually the label as well?

I remember now the Dead Man's Curve post, '65. I'm so glad it's going to be an fB track.
And Cooking Vinyl the label is. |

Roxy Music also did 2 versions of "Angel Eyes" from the "Manifesto" album. One version is a rocker and the other is the more "poppy" dance-like version that you will mostly come across. |

Wich means for me the chrismass-season begins at wednesday at the earliest. |

Arrived today, happily.
'Dead Man's Curve' is listed as 'Black Francis' on the CD, and 'Frank Black' on the DVD. lol.
Anyway, a delightful collection of songs. |

Love Frank's vocal on 'Demon Girl'. The lyrics feel at times to be a knowing pastiche of certain themes he's used before; falling for a girl from another world etc. Really fun song. Puts a big grin on the face! |

Twas the night before Christmass and all through the forum, every one was a flutter about the new CD and trying to keep the decorum.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes that some new music would soon be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of Frank Black danced in their heads. |

Lemmy Kilmister's song "Motorhead" was a Hawkwind song before it was a Motorhead song. "Lost Johnny", as well. In fact, "Lost Johnny" was written by both Lemmy and Mick Farren. The song came out on a Hawkwind record, then was also recorded for a Motorhead record, as well as for a Mick Farren solo single.
I personally wouldn't be phased at all by Frank re-recording any of these new Christmass songs with them Pixies. I like different versions of songs. If they're all good, I don't get caught up in what's "definitive" and what isn't. But it's probably not even worth discussing at this point in time, as no one (not even the Pixies) knows IF the Pixies will even make a new record.
Still looking forward to [i]Christmass[i] here in the Lone Star state. A happy dance will be done when it arrives. |

Yeah, you're right. 2007 holds many answers.

Tell me about it. I moonwalked across the kitchen floor.
Branck, it's a normal CD casing but contained within, how do I put up, a cardboard sleeve thingy. The CD cover artwork is different to the cardboard's art. A great addition to anyone's Frank Black collection. |

Both Atlanta Rythm Section and the Classic IV recorded Spooky. You've got the Minus 5 and the Venus 3 doing Young Fresh Fellows, M5, V3, and REM songs. Although an REM song is rare, but REM, M5 and V3 are basically the same band with the addition or subtraction of Stipe.

here's what Frank said (but I guess it doesn't help much:
quote: I really enjoyed recording ³Radio Lizards². Its about the strangest recording I¹ve ever done.--just voices. Lots and lots of voices.. Singing about the haunting road of the troubadour... fellow troubadour Mark Mulcahy really helped out on this one. He sings like a beautiful woman.

That quote was from the Pixies myspace page which has a short interview with frank (conducted by Violet) in the blog section. I haven't seen any mention of it before, but that's probably due to my lack of observation rather than anything else.
