Not to sound inappropriate but you can be friends with someone and still sleep with them.
I got some heaven in my head
So, if you can't find someone on Saturday night, and your friend can't find someone on Saturday night, then you screw each other, and the next day it's back to gabbing about politics and the weather?
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Well her parents are divorced and her dad lives in Belleville I think, so she would be making the decision whether she stays or not. It's not that far away, and I think she decided she wouldn't.
I'll defenitely tell her next time I see her.
Thanks for the advice everybody. |

Well, if I ultimately hold out for "the one" for me and I know she's not it, am I doing a disservice to her by continuing to stay in a relationship that I feel may have no future? In other words, I may be delaying her own search for a life-partner. So far I have said wtf...I'm enjoying this and so why rock the boat. If I meet the one, then maybe I will have a nasty breakup and get my tires slashed.
I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything |

How did this devolve into "finding" someone on Saturday night? You're telling me I'm the only person in history to have slept with a friend and not wanted a long-term sexual/romantic relationship?

Sorry but "the one" perfect predestined person doesn't exist. Plus, what's with searching "for a life-partner"? Enjoy your time together and stop imagining a dramatic breakup. There may come a point where one of you wants something else but for now have fun together and forget cliches like "the one." Think about "the now" instead. Damn, that sounds so....I dunno either wise or really stupid.

I wasn't telling you anything, Kathryn. Forgive me if my tone may have sounded harsh -- I was just trying to make sure I understood what you said. I have absolutely zero direct experience to address this, because I've never slept with anyone without later putting a ring on their finger. So I'm admittedly naive.
As for whether "the one" truly exists, a person's answer to that question likely depends somewhat on their relationship status. I've been happily married for 10 years, and I believe in my heart of hearts that fate put my wife and me in the same college town 13 years ago, so we could meet and fall in love and eventually have the two children we have. Experience has taught me that she is the only woman I could have successfully married, and the only one who ever would have loved me (and put up with me) like she has. For me, she is absolutely the one. There is no question. On the other hand, looking through this thread, I see people who aren't currently in a relationship -- or whom I know had a disastrous marriage in the past -- and they don't believe "the one" exists. It's all in your point of view, based on your personal experience. And while I doubt I'll convince a single person of my side of the argument, I thought it important to point out that there are believers. (Call me the awestruck of this thread.)
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

You didn't sound harsh. And you make a good point -- we are on opposite sides re: believing in "the one." I don't believe in fate.

Of course you're not. Still, isn't this rarer for a female? I have always associated more of the tendency to focus on the long-term future of a relationship with the female, and more of the "I just want to get in her pants with no strings attached" to the male. By the way, I have a few friends that if you can kinda talk to and convince to your way of thinking? I'd owe you one!
One more thing about love. Is it hard for you to throw that word out there? I feel like I have to truly be "in love" to say it, and right now, I might "love" this person I'm with in certain ways, but I'm not in love, not infatuated with them, and I feel like it is a lie to say it. I've only told my ex-wife, my son, my close family and a few friends that I loved them, not my handful of girlfriends I have had.
I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything |

For the past week or so, I've looked at the active topics, and everytime I saw this one I skipped right past it ( "Love, that's a stupid topic, and what kind of retard makes a heart symbol that way? " Then I looked at who started this thread. |

Tell her about it, tell her everything you feel, give her every reason to accept that you're for real

I do know that man and woman can be “just” friends, though the example I have in mind doesn’t really fit your model, and perhaps its very exceptionality makes it one of those “exceptions that prove the rule”, the rule here being that man and woman can’t be “just” friends. Nancy and I were lovers for two years, but when we broke up what made it especially tough for me was having to disconnect from her two young children, with whom I had formed a deep bond. It was tough for the kids too, so after about a month Nancy invited me over just to see the kids. From there I became a frequent visitor to their home, mostly for the sake of the relationship the kids and I shared. Out of that, over the next eight years Nancy and I became, if anything, better friends than ever, on the basis of our former love and our long-term alliance in support of and love for her kids. So certainly man and woman can be “just” friends, though in my case it took some machinations to make it real.
Unfortunately it lasted only the eight years because Nancy wanted to marry a fucked up guy who insisted that I disappear, and Nancy gave in, which spoiled everything and completely screwed with my head since I couldn’t see “my” kids anymore. And, as I had warned she would, Nancy soon realized the guy was a total asshole and their marriage lasted only two years, but by then our friendship was dust. Despite my resentment, I was willing to reestablish the connection, but Nancy would not, mostly I suspect out of guilt for having so thoroughly screwed over me and her kids. She really made a mess of everything. In life it truly is possible to make huge mistakes with life-changing consequences for multiple people. But we did have a strong friendship for quite a while.
edit: Nasty comment on KoK removed, who has once again proven himself a responsible citizen of the world. Howdy KoK! Long time.
