My concern is that the format is PAL and that only works on European DVD players.

I'm concerned that the running time is apparently only 83 minutes... some songs cut? |

There's the Boston show, and some bonus Material : "previously unseen footage from one of the first Pixies shows shot in October 1986 at TT The Bear's in Boston". 12 songs. So cool ! Can't wait to watch the DVD ! Cuic. |

bought it today in HMV for £12, it is pretty ace, really good sound quality and lots of talking from charles, which is always nice, although kim seems a little subdued, but seemed to cheer up towards the end
(and also found out the charles' plectrums say "kim" on the them and kim's say "frank," and to paraphase the man "that was only due to a fuck up")
only downside is that the crowd didn't seem that into it, until maybe the last 1/3, but still, pixies were brilliant regardless
(and yes it does have the full 29 tracks)
just watching the acoustic newport DVD as we speak... and acoustic bone machine works!

A very very good show, that club show. Excellent sound and picture, but most of all, a brilliant performance from the band. Love the banter.
Acoustic DVD is wonderful as well, particularly the 'behind the scenes' featurette. Interesting to see FB teaching the rest of the band 'All Around the World'. |

I bought them both today for under £20. Not Bad. I love the Newport one. I'd heard the show but I'm glad I've seen it. It looks like the band are really enjoying playing. The behind the scenes is good. Like you say, it is interesting to see Frank teaching the song and you can see why Debaser might not have worked.
I've not seen the Boston one yet apart from the footage from '86 which I thought was cool. Charles and his awful jacket!

Great DVD. Performance is fantastic and their little funny interactions are nice. Fans in the puplic are grotesque just like any fans.
The 86 concert is just very touching. Frank was so thin still... weird.

Watched it last night. Great stuff. I though that Eagle Vision might be some cheapo company knocking out some crap footage to cash in on the Pixies popularity, but I was very pleasantly surprized. Very nicely filmed, intimate and lively. The presentation is really nice, both the packaging and the DVD menus. I love the band banter. Also, the addition of the 1986 footage is a rare bonus, an exciting opportunity to see the band in the very early days. I've still got the Newport DVD to look forward to!!

Could all this be the PIXIES’ fault? They may not have new studio material due anytime soon, but expect Eagle Rock to follow up Pixies: Live in Newport (from last summer’s Newport Folk Festival) with another live reunion DVD shot at the Paradise: Pixies Club Date: Live at the Paradise in Boston comes out October 3. |

It's a delightful surprise, the whole deal. Excellent setlist. I think that 'the Sad Punk' is one of the real highlights. 'Allison' sounded surprising good too. |

Live Pixies DVD
09/29/06
(Kayos) Hot on the heels of its debut “Club Date” DVD (Elvis Costello & The Imposters Live In Memphis), Eagle Vision, the wholly-owned Eagle Rock Entertainment subsidiary, is proud to announce the October 3 release of Pixies Live At The Paradise In Boston, an intimate night of magic by a band that set the standard for all things “alternative” in the 1990s.
This most influential American band—Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Black Francis, Bassist Kim Deal, Guitarist Joey Santiago and Drummer David Lovering—had parted ways in 1994. Deal started The Breeders. Francis became solo artist Frank Black. The silence was deafening. 10 Years. But when Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain stated in interviews that all he was trying to do when writing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was write a Pixies song, interest in the Boston-based band piqued into an obsession. Fast–forward to 2004.
Packed to the gills with 200 Pixies fanatics, this 29-song 110-minute celebration puts the viewer in the midst of the madness. In reprising their most popular material, the band, on this night, achieved the kind of magical audience chemistry that transcends mere concert excellence. As an added bonus, an early 1986 12-song set from Boston’s TT The Bear’s, never-before-released, is included.

Pixies Ready Pair of DVDs

A live DVD will hit shelves Tuesday, while the buzzed-about documentary, loudQuietloud, will arrive a month later.
Pixies fans, this is your season, as Oct. 3 will see the release of a live DVD, and an acclaimed documentary on the band will arrive Nov. 3. Pixies Live at the Paradise in Boston includes one of the band's 2004 reunion shows at Beantown's Paradise Club, featuring songs like "Debaser," "Wave of Mutiliation," "Bone Machine," and "Monkey Gone to Heaven," as well as 25 others. The set also includes never-before-seen footage of one of the Pixies' first performances, shot in Oct. 1986 at TT The Bear's in Boston. One month later, loudQuietloud, which premiered at this year's SXSW, will arrive in stores. The documentary follows the preparation for and execution of the Pixies' 2004 reunion tour.

Pixies Live DVD Released
On October 3, 2006, Pixies Live at the Paradise in Boston, was released by Eagle Vision. The DVD highlights an intimate concert by the seminal band that helped define the “alternative” sound during the 1990’s. Cited as an influence by Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, the Boston-based band - Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering - plays to a packed house of 200 during the 29-song, 110-minute DVD, reprising much of its most popular material. Bonus material includes a never-before-released 1986 twelve-song set in Boston.

NOVEMBER 1, 2006 Music reviews - 11-01-06 This week: The Sadies, Pixies, Jeff Tweedy, and The Decemberists
Pixies Live at the Paradise in Boston Eagle Rock
Why should you purchase this video instead of the 2004 concert DVD, The Pixies Sell Out? You shouldn’t --- if you’re a fan, you’ll want both. Sell Out was filmed at a huge outdoor European festival while Live at the Paradise was filmed the same year at an intimate venue in Boston, the Pixies’ hometown. Both have their charms. In this case, it isn’t the close camera work alone, but the band’s casual onstage demeanor that fosters an intimate vibe. Frank Black and Kim Deal aren’t exactly known for their warmth, but they leave their usual aloofness (which works great in the other video) at the door, joking around and clearly at-ease in this setting. They even stop songs to try them again amidst much laughter. For all their power, the Pixies’ lackadaisical approach to song order can set them adrift on big stages; here, it enhances the fun, as does the shockingly green bonus footage from Halloween night 1986.

http://www.rocknworld.com/features/06/PixiesBostonDVD.shtml Pixies - Live at the Paradise DVD Review
by Zane Ewton
Another Pixies DVD. This time for the Club Date series, the Pixies perform for about 200 fans at the Paradise Club in Boston, the same place where one of their first gigs was almost 20 years ago. The bonus features include footage from that fateful show so many years ago. It's completely unlistenable and unwatchable, but is an interesting relic of the infancy of the Pixies.
The 2005 show is considerably different. The Pixies were a few days removed from their performance at the Newport Folk Festival, which was also filmed for DVD release. The good vibes of that show followed the Pixies into Boston.
Frank Black asks David Lovering to sing an impromptu "La La Love You" before a single note is played. After a false start and some jovial rambling by Black, the band gets it together and plows through all the required songs.
Joey Santiago solos on "Vamos", Kim Deal sings "Gigantic" and Black wails like a banshee. The band covered "Been Around the World" at Newport and they play an electrified version here.
Another Pixies DVD with the same set list is completely unnecessary at this point. The world waits with baited breath to see if they will ever be bothered to release something new.
The reunion was fantastic. Now what?
