Well, I had a teacher I definitely wanted to make rhymes with... her last name being Tucker. But I may have already gotten myself in trouble here.
Jail seems over the top for what, to me, is maybe something worth losing a job over and that's all. 18 is pretty old, it's just a conflict of interests.

Yes, she should lose the job due to abuse of the unequal power relationship, but otherwise no crime committed. That law will soon be amended or found unconstitutional.

I agree with the concensus; I think she shouldn't be allowed to teach (it sounds like she's just as immature as any one of her high school students) but aside from that I don't think it should be a matter of her being at risk of going to jail for 20 years. She's obviously not a pedophile, even if her sex partner is in high school. It doesn't seem like there should even be an issue here.
Oh well, I'm not really surprised that it happened in Texas; their law enforcement would probably still arrest people for sodomy charges if they caught them in the act.

Well she's not really my teacher anymore. She was my Sociology teacher at college. She was fucking hot shit. Always wearing short skirts.
Funny story about her actually:
Just after I'd got my A Level results I was stood outside the college gates having a cig and she came outside to congratulate me. After exhanging pleasantries she wandered off back inside. A few minutes later I went back in and announced to some of my mates who were sat around 'Did you see me smooth talking Sian. I'm in there!' I then proceeded to do fucking motions (doggy style) and pretending to slap her imaginary ass. After a few seconds I realised they were all looking behind me, mouths wide open and so I turned round (still gesturing wildly) to see my hot teacher stood directly behind me, staring at me, looking horrified. I then ran off down the corridor nd never saw her again.
(I guess you had to be there really)

Just when I thought the situation couldn't get any more implausible, she commits incest. There's something wrong with her toast.
Seriously, I read the wikipedia article on Letourneau, and she really gave it her all to be with that student. What could have been 1 year in prison ended up as 7 years because of her persistent disobedience. Then, after 7 years of confinement and complex legal trauma, in 2004, the court finally expelled the restraining order, and Letourneau and the student (21 by 2004) could finally be together.
To hear that Mary has dumped that guy and commited incest is a REAL anti-climax, and a bit of a slap in the face as well. It all makes me rather sick. |

There shouldn't be such a restraint put on McElhenney's life (or anyone else's life, for that matter). What if McElhenney and the student with whom McElhenney had sex were truly bounded by love? How is it fair, then, for the law to impinge? I think McElhenney should be able to love whomever is of legal age, as it is her natural and legal right. More importantly, since the act was consensual, I don't see how McElhenney's PRIVATE SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH A STUDENT automatically makes her Spanish classes unconducive to learning. |

What if it isn't love? There's a lot of focus on that, about if it's love they should be given a break, but what if it is just sex and kicks is that ok? The problem isn't his age (If he had been 16 and still legal would that be fine?) it's the position of trust someone gets placed into as a teacher. Parents trust these people to do right by their kids not to indulge in extracurricular activity. If it was love would it be that big a deal to wait until he wasn't her student anymore to start a sexual relationship? I agree 20 years is harsh but she has done something wrong.
