Well, that does make me feel better about my own situation...
I definitely haven't forgotten. Its more like a couple of extinuating circumstances have reared their ugly heads. but like I said, I'll have the song up there by 7/4 at the very latest!

The fewer the submissions, the less "competition" for a "spot" on the "official" "cd" ;) I used my name, btw, didn't bother making up a band name cause it took me several months to come up with a name for my pre-Bennies band. I think that those who wish to be "considered" for the "official" "cd" should have the deadline of today, which others (except PsychicTwin) who wish to just have the cover out there can submit any time. Eh? Of all the songs uploaded so far, I'm itching to hear 1826 and The Marsist the most.

Roughly two weeks before the FTP site was up, Dean told me he had already received an album's worth of covers, so...

We have decided to remove our link in this post in favor of promotion of this project. We've recieved an email from Dean and things are all working out. We ask that the owners of the 2 replies to the post remove the link as well. We will be removing the mp3 off off our site until the album is released.

good luck on wrapping it up C_O_F :)

thanks,

Did you see his post on this thread saying he'd be away from last Saturday until sometime today? Sounds to me like you've made the deadline, given that all you need is access to the ftp. Just my opinion.

All album contributors who hadn't yet uploaded their covers to Dean (aka Cult of Frank) received emails on Wed/Thur containing the login name and password needed to access the FTP site. The email cautioned against revealing this information to anyone NOT contributing covers to the tribute album. If you aren't on the contributors list (and it appears that you aren't), then you'll just have to wait for COF to send you an email. Sorry.

We recieved a last minute squeeze in for the album from C_O_F.

To be specific, the email read in part:
"Sorry about the huge lag in getting back to you. I’m popping a few people off the list, so I’ll sneak you in there. Have it done by July 1st and encoded at 192kbps MP3. Contact me when it’s done, and we’ll set up the transfer."

So i'm still waiting for a response to multiple posts and emails i've sent.

Im freaking out. I cant get this damn song into my computer. I used a roland vs-880 to record the music, and Im going rca stereo out into the line in and its coming out of the speakers just fine but when I play it back its at like 2% volume!!!!!!! I checked my windows line in volume, its fine, I just cant figure it out. Then I had my computer lying face down so i could check it out, and I had it there so long, the damn thing overheated and shut off. I will have it there by tomorrow, but hopefully by tonight. Does anyone have any ideas? Im using musicmatch if it helps. I have recorded plenty this way before but I havent put anything on my computer for months, so something is goin wrong. uh.

King: You have to set the Recording volume properties in Windows. Same place you do your Playback (the little speaker in your system tray). I'm doing this from memory, so forgive me if I'm wrong (I have a slightly different setup). It's the top-left option in the menu bar. Is it Options? File? Properties? There should be something in there for Options. Click the radio button for "Recording" and click OK. It'll bring up your Recording properties. Make sure "Select" is checkmarked under Line In, and your line in volume is either like, 100% or 75% or so. That should be all you need.

Zipper: Alright, just wait for COF to send you the proper instructions. He made it very clear not to publicly post them.

are some people encoding their songs at a higher bitrate than 192?

Mind the non-cable modem people please (I'm probably the only one).

I think what stood out was I'll Be Blue being almost 10 megabytes. I think the file name said 320 kbps too...

hmm... weird. I checked just now and I'll Be Blue is no longer there. what's goin on...

I'm slowly filtering through them... sorry about being away, guys... in answer to what seemed to be several peoples' concerns, I move the tracks once I receive them from the FTP site to a local hard drive to conserve space on the FTP. I'm sitting at ~30 songs or so at the moment, so no worries on not enough material.

I'm doing my best to get back up to speed with everything/everyone, but I have... well, let's just say A LOT... of emails and so forth to catch up on. Those who warned me they'd be submitting late prior to tonight will get until Friday mostly because it will take me that long to go through and honestly listen to all of these several times anyway. I'm sorry that this isn't fair to those of you who have worked very hard to submit on time, but if you do want to touch your version up a little bit, I suppose I would also accept that by Friday.

Also, as far as encoding goes, everyone's should be at EXACTLY 192 kbps since we want to have a constant bit rate across the entire album. Those submitted at less should be resubmitted at the proper bit rate, and those submitted at a higher bit rate will be downsampled by either myself or the artist (if they choose to resubmit) to be at 192.

I think that was it for now... thanks again to everyone for submitting and please keep the questions coming.

man, i just made it in at [almost] the 11th hour. i wanted to start from scratch earlier this evening, but broke a couple strings so gave up. i guess my finished product is good enough.. though still probably will be the worst of the lot. are the really shitty ones gonna be left off the comp, or should i not worry? :) at least i did a song off SMYT so it'll have some novelty value of being a cover song that the original version hasn't even been released yet. that's SOMETHING, right?

Hey, I think so. Of course, I'm invariably wrong 99.9% of the time... but this feels like the one. I don't suppose you'd mind bringing up the vocals and sending it again... they're pretty much inaudible except for the "There Goes Nadine" part... unless that's what you were going for. There are a few others that seem to have put vocals way too far down in the mix (not that I think the vocals should overpower everything, but you should at least be able to hear them). Don't mean to single you out, Gavin, the rest sounded pretty tasty.

Just to clarify, In my cover of Weeds the second rep of the second chorus is purposely lower because I stepped away from the mic. If you listen to the original, Frank does it by accident (I'm pretty sure) so I thought it would be fun to point out and recreate a mistake on the original track. I thought it was novel, but most of those who have heard it don't get it... oh well.

Actually, I was happy with the vocal levels on that track if I remember correctly, but interesting that I never noticed on the original...

I thought your version came out pretty decent, actually, and it wasn't one of the tracks I had with level problems. If you want to rerecord, it certainly can't hurt - if it ends up worse you can scrap it, but if it ends up better, well... you have a better track. Still, it's certainly not necessary - the choice is yours, though.

the reason i encoded in 256 is because i wasnt sure if he would be decoding it burn to cd or something like that. and i figured the decoded wav would sound better if it was decoded from a higher mp3. he was cable too so i figured it didnt matter
