just kidding. You have Wigan, why would you be jealous?

Teale stuck in a few good crosses today, and McCulloch clattered the goalie a few times (but didn't do much else). I think Teale might lose his place to Burke pretty soon though.

Teale probably (or at leat hopefully, depending on who we sign) wont be first choice at Wigan next season. Handy to have on the bench though. His pace and crossing could open up a tired defence in the last couple of minutes of a match.
Lee McCulloch is a more important player for us though. He scored 14 goals from the left wing in the season we got promoted to the Premirship. He's also be useful in the air.

Burke seems like a good prospect for Scotland. How do you rate your chances of Euro qualification for 2008?

France
Italy
Ukraine
SCOTLAND
Lithuania
Georgia
Faroe Islands

that's our group :D. I think it's fair to say our chances of qualification are nil. The absolute best we could hope for is to finish third, but we'd be lucky to do that. Hopefully Walter Smith will use it as an opportunity to blood a few youngsters and get a solid squad in place for 2010 world cup qualification.

England's group is a bit easier:

ENGLAND
Croatia
Russia
Israel
Estonia
Macedonia
Andorra

Probably right that third is the best you could hope for. England's group doesn't look easy either though. I would expect Russia to be there near the top.

Because Bent is average and Defoe hasn't exactly set the world alight. He's taking a risk. It's nice to see for once. It's kind of romantic, and I am a romantic.

Who else would you have as back-up in net?

I think 'average' is a harsh assessment of Bent. The guy has scored 22 goals this season, more than any other Englishman in the Premiership, admittedly Defoe hasn't been on fire this season but at least he has proven himself in the Premiership.
As for Walcott, I think too many people are getting carried away with the romanticism of it all. After all, how many people could say that they had actually seen Walcott play? And more importantly how many of those people would say that he was ready to play in a World Cup?

Chimbonda is the guy (left back??) who right after the last game of the season, in the dressing room, handed in a written transfer request to the manager of Wigan, who was understandably pissed off. He's had a good season by all accounts. I'm sure PixieStu will correct me if I'm wrong.

Did I post this here? I meant to post in the world cup thread, but since both have turned into Premiere League discussions, I mixed them...
Anyway. Thanks. Apparently he's never played in the French team before.

Thats a pretty solid squad, but I have to question the inclusion of Boumsong, possibly one of the worst centre halves ever to grace the Premiership.

I think time will prove me right with Bent. He's another Kevin Phillips I believe. Had a very good season in front of goal, but his actual technique is not nearly good enough. He's not international class and won't ever be in my opnion.

With Walcott, I think he want's impact subs. He won't start the lad.

They say Rooney is doing very well though, so fingers crossed.

Pascal Chimbonda is a right back. He was voted into the PFA team of the year and yes, he did hand in a transfer request right after the last game at Arsenal (I wasn't even out of London when I heard about it on the radio, so he was pretty quick!). His agent has since said that Pascal saw us as just a stepping stone to a big club.
We are now asking £6,000,000 for him and have already rejected £3,000,000 from Tottenham. If we don't get the amount we want for him he will probably be left in the resrves next season (our chairmans way of saying don't f**k with Wigan).

I'd say he deserves his international call up though. After all, he's been the best right back in the Premiership this season.

I think you make a good point about Bent, but only time will tell. The same goes for Walcott.

I dont think fatlad will be fit in time, I think we should be thinking about how were going to play without him.

As for Chimbonda, I dont think he's that good. Id bite anyones hand off if they offered you 4mill for the lad.

I am not sure we need Rooney in order to win it now seeing as Gerrard seems to actually be a footballing god, rather than a human being.

Boy I wish he played for United.

That's true. If there is potential to make money now then our chairman wont carry out this threat. After all, who'd pay for a guy who's just been playing in the reserves?

I'm sure he'd rather accept around £4million now.

em poor american's and they're poor attention span's and all that... look at the balloon, look and the pretty balloon!!!! Europe's youthful, inexperienced children.. Will they ever grow up?

nuff of this, funnily enough. USA were in the 1st world cup in 1930. They've been in alot. Honestly, I think football is such a great game because you only need a ball. That's why so many poorer countries can compete and get such a sense of national pride etc. Jumpers for goalposts and an ole rag ball. Rules are simple and the skills are quite elegant. None of this rugby, american football crap !!!
As you can tell, I can't wait till the world cup (hope its a good wan)

Although I kind of want Arsenal to win, if Barcelona win, then Celtic are automatically through to the group stages (possibly even in the 2nd seed pot). That could make a big difference to our spending and squad strengthening over the summer.

So it has to be Barcelona for me, although I'd feel sorry for Arsenal if they lost.

I guess im rooting for Arsenal. I only Hope it is half as good as last years final or the FA cup. Hard to live up to. As a liverpool supporter, I think liverpool should just be put in every cup match. Best games in the last year have been (even as a neutral):
Liverpool 3 - 3 AC Milan
Liverpool 5 - 3 Luton
Liverpool 3 - 3 West Ham

You can't make up stuff like that.

In case you haven't seen the news today:

<<PARIS (Reuters) - Two armed men held up councillors from a poor Paris suburb at gun point demanding free tickets to the Champions League final, French media reported on Tuesday.

The pair burst into a meeting late on Monday at the town hall in St Denis, the suburb north of Paris that is home to the Stade de France stadium hosting Wednesday's final between Barcelona and Arsenal.

"At first everyone thought it was a joke. The council offices were closed. And then, quite quickly, everyone realised it wasn't a joke," Francois Langlade, deputy mayor of St Denis told LCI television.

The hooded men clambered up the walls of the council building and through the window of the fourth floor room where the meeting was being held, declaring: "We want to see the mayor, we want tickets."

The two men put guns to the councillors heads, forced them to lie face down and threatened to shoot one in the foot.

However, the mayor, who is traditionally granted a number of guest tickets, could not be found and the intruders left empty-handed.

Police, who are hunting the robbers, were not immediately available for comment.

The final is one of the most eagerly anticipated for years, matching Barcelona's Brazilian world player of the year Ronaldinho against a team spearheaded by France striker Thierry Henry.

Tickets for the match are reported to be selling for between 1,000 (680 pounds) and 2,000 euros on the black market.>>
