Just about to kick off now. 21,000 tickets for each club is a bit pathetic though. It holds 77,000.

Who thinks Arsenal can hold on? Anyone? I'd love them to but I don't see it happening.

turned out well for Arsenal....better 1-0 up with ten men than 1-0 down with eleven....maybe. If they can keep it tight for the first 20 minutes of the second half, they have a chance. But they'll get tired in the last 15 minutes or so because of the extra covering play they've done.

I really couldn't believe it when Barca hit the post. Then when I saw the replay I realised that it was probably one of the saves of the season from the substitute goalie.

Things are getting tense now! Arsenal have had plenty chances this second half. Henry is having a great game though!
[EDIT] It's now 1-1. [2nd EDIT] Oh Shit! 2-1

I feel bad for Arsenal, but Celtic are in the group stages of the Champions League next year.....and Ghod got a winners medal.

It was as expected. I think tiredness caused lapses in concentration towards the end of the game for 10 man Arsenal.
At least Llama got something out of it!

Yeah. Congrats Llama.
Plus, Arsenal scored only because of a clear diver of Eboué.
What a great game of Larsson!
I watched the game with the audio of BBC Worldwide Radio. That was fun. |

A great result!
Henry missed two very good chances but didn't have the honesty to admit that he should have done better. Made crappy excuses about how he was tired. Then he made things worse by claiming they were cheated by the referee and they were better than Barcelona. Just reaffirmed my belief that the guy may well be one of the greatest footballers I have seen, but he is also a prick!
The best team won!
Oh and yes, Larrson turned the game with a great display as a sub. How the hell is Giuly not in that French squad?

Yeah, I don't know how Arsenal can complain about the ref. I thought he gave alot of 50/50 decisions their way.

Well he could have given the Barcelona goal instead of sending Lehmann off. And the first Barcelona goal by Eto'o seemed to be offsides.
But then again he fell for that Eboué diver.

I was pretty pissed with the ref, and I'd like to think I'm fairly impartial.
The foul/free kick that resulted in Arsenal scoring was a little dubious, which kind of tainted it for me. I do think Arsenal should've won, though. I'd say they were the better team.

I thought Arsenal were fortunate not to have conceded the goal AND have Lehmann sent off, after all, if the ref plays advantage there's nothing stoppig him going back to the player who committed the foul and booking him after the ball has gone out of play. In that sense Arsenal were lucky that the goal didn't stand or it could have been alot worse.
Eto'o wasn't offside either I don't think after watching the replay.

But you can't send off someone for stopping a clear goalscoring opportunity if a goal has been scored, can you?

I was just testing you
Nah, okay that didn't make sense at all. Fair enough. I didn't take into account that the red card was for denying a goalscoring opportunity and not just for a tackle. I got a bit confused.
What do you make of the "offside" Eto'o goal, Llama?

Well, as Larsson touched it he looked offside....just. But the linesman probably couldn't have said if Larsson touched the ball or not, in which case Eto'o was onside (in the linesman's mind). The linesman probably got it wrong, but it was a tough one to call.
Just for old times.....

I was gutted for Sol Campbell, imagine after going mental halfway through the season he'd come back to win the Champions League with this first goal in Europe. Fairy tale stuff.

A Brothers Grimm fairytle for Arsenal.
Arsenal's goal should never have happened. The free-kick was just cheating from Aboue.
I am not sure about Eto'o's goal, I haven't seen it from a conclusive angle. Isn't the advantage supposed to be with the attacker though on decisions so close?

I was expecting a true classic, possibly even better than last years final. Lehmanns gaffe ended any hopes of that. Barca may indeed be a better side, but it's hard to say they really proved it.

Gutted for Arsenal, but they cant complain overall, they played well but at the end of the day they were beaten by a good footballing side. In my opinion, they don't really have a case with regards not sending Lehmann off and Eboue dived like a swan for the free kick. They got a few lucky decisions, a few decisions went against them, thats the nature of football.
On a lighter note, after watching the Final upsatirs in Walkabout, I went downstairs to watch Alan Fletcher (aka Dr Karl Kennedy of Neighbours) perform with his band The Waiting Room. Now thats what I call entertainment!

D'oh!
Any team that tries to defend a 1-0 lead for over 45 minutes deserves to lose. Dropping deep inviting a team to attack can be suicide. On a more positive note, I thought Pires had a blinding last match for the Gunners. |

Dropping deep inviting a team to attack can be suicide. ????? what? they only had 10 men, hardly inviting a team on when you have a player less... cop on.. you saw for the first 15 mins who was up for it and attacking.. It was gonna be a classic. and arsenal had a few chances 2nd half, you have to play on the break when you have 10 men!! do u know anything about football?
at least arsenal get to keep henry |
