Really? So last year was a one-off? That's unfair.

I think so. Last year there was no automatic entry for the champions, and Liverpool came 5th, tha'ts why there was such a furore about it and Liverpool ended up in the 1st qualifying round. UEFA changed it so that if the winner finishes out of the qualifying spots in their league, they take one qualifying spot and whoever finishes lowest out of the league qualifiers goes into the Uefa cup.
I may have said this earlier, but if Arsenal win the cup, then Celtic have to qualify for the group stages next year, whereas if Barcelona/Milan win, we get straight in. There's quite a lot riding on it for us, in terms of how much money we can spend initially in the summer.

For tonight I would like to think, that Superpippo, Shevchenko and Kakà should be enough offensive power to score two goals. But then again, they are playing Barca with the home crowd AND away goal advantage on their side. I'm hoping for a quick goal by Sheva and an open game after that. Don't really care for either of them. |

How can anyone not care for Barcelona? They play amazing football, they have the best stadium, and they have no sponsors. They are pure football.

I don't know. It's not that I don't appreciate their awsome style and technique. I enjoy watching them play. But from a more neutral standpoint. There's some other teams I WANT to win. |

Not once but TWICE!?
I have never known anything like that. Two of the greatest comebacks ever, by the same team, in consecutive rounds.
As they say, you couldn't write that script.

I'm happy for 'boro as I wanted them to beat the Hammers in the F.A. Cup. I wonder what the odds are on two English teams winning the two European competitions now.

Or two Spanish teams.
If ever the expression, "their name is on the cup" should be used, it's now for 'Boro.

A dramatic final day of the Premiership season saw Arsenal clinch the final Champions League place for next season! But can they win it this season?
I'm actually quite proud, a Wigan player recieved the last ever red card at Highbury! Now that's something to be proud of!

Henry played well, didn't he?
I'm watching Match of the Day jumping between games. Ooh the excitement. Spurs and their food poisoning epidemic. How funny is that?
Ruud isn't looking too happy, though. Not good.

Yeah, Henry did play well, a fitting end to Highbury I suppose with him getting a hatrick. Did Van Nistelrooy leave the stadium or something? I don't really know what happened there.
[EDIT] Just watching Rio Ferdinand on MOTD getting Jaffa Cakes from the physio
Also glad to see Paul Scholes back. One of my idols as a child. Was the first ever scorer at our new stadium too. (Boring trivia!)

Ruud was left out of the team/squad, and left before the game. I heard Spurs wanted the game postponed. Er....NO! So close to the jackpot, yet so far.
Excuse me while I laugh.
edit: don't you think Gary Linekar is getting quieter and quieter? Rooney's injury and his own divorce seems to have knocked the stuffing out of him. |

I've never really liked Linekar as a presenter. He always seems a bit smug (I can't think what about though!). Anyway I'm off to bed, it's been a long day and I have a Media Studies mock exam to revise for
I'll leave you with this thought though: Fowler for England? Darren Bent? Marlon Hare...nah
James Beattie...?
Decisions, decisions...

He was a right greedy bugger in the playground, but yeah he's fantastic. One of the most underrated players ever. He's the ginger Zidane.
What do you think of this England squad then? A few big surprises here:
Provisional squad: Robinson (Tottenham), James (Manchester City), Green (Norwich); G Neville (Manchester United), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Terry (Chelsea), Cole (Arsenal), Campbell (Arsenal), Carragher (Liverpool), Bridge (Chelsea), Beckham (Real Madrid), Carrick (Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Jenas (Tottenham), Downing (Middlesbrough), J Cole (Chelsea), Lennon (Tottenham), Rooney (Manchester United), Owen (Newcastle), Crouch (Liverpool), Walcott (Arsenal).
Standby: Carson (Liverpool), Young (Charlton), Reo-Coker (West Ham), Defoe (Tottenham), Johnson (Crystal Palace).
Very surprised that both Defoe and Bent didn't make it into the squad. I mean, for a long time they both would have expected only one of them to get in, then when Rooney got injured they probably both thought they would, and now neither of them has. They must be wondering what they have got to do, Bent especially.
Despite that, I am pleased with what he has done here. This is a sign of Eriksson actually earning his £5m a year. It's a sign that he is willing to take gambles, which is not something he was demonstrated in the past. Plus, I always like to see youth given a chance, and I really rate these two youngsters, Lennon and Walcott. They are both very tricky and have pace in abundance. The World Cup has a history of making a name of an unknown kid.

Seville were pretty good, and Boro never really seems to get into the game. There always seemed to be more Seville players than Boro players, which is never a good sign. It's a shame, but I don't think Boro can have any complaints....well, apart from the stonewall penalty that wasn't given at 1-0.

I wasn't so sure about the penalty when I first saw it because he went down in a way that made it look like a dive.
The replay showed that it definitely wasn't a dive though. Viduka had a good chance early in the second half too which was well saved by the keeper.
I though the 4-0 scoreline was a bit harsh overall.
But of course the hilight of the match was......that Seville fan crying! What a guy!

That guy needs to get a life.
Scholes was a couple of years above me so I didn't really know him. My mates knew him better.
The best team won last night but it shoudl have been a penalty and then perhaps a different result. 4-0 was harsh though.

That England squad is bollocks. Defoe and Bent have been putting the ball in the back of the net all season and what has Walcott done? Fuck all. 5 goals in 21 senior appearances for Southampton. Sven has lost the plot, not that he ever knew where it was. I mean, Robert Green and David James. The man in literally demented.
Was anyone else laughing at Boro? I dont know why but I seem to resent them for some reason. Possibly because Steve Gibson seems to have money pouring out of his arse.

Well, I thought I might aswell mintion the F.A Cup final. A magnificent end to end game made even better for the fact that West Ham lost. Peter Crouch had a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside too.
If the Champions League final is half as entertaining as that was we shoud be in for a good game.

Well, they scored in the last minute of the final day of the season against us a few years ago, stopping us reaching the playoffs. I've hated them ever since.
Their fans are amongst the most arrogant I've ever met too. They seem to believe they have a divine right to success, simply because they're West Ham.
I'm all for rooting for the underdog, just not if it's West Ham!

Ha Ha. That's a good enough reason I guess. Don't forget Liverpool fans also suffer from the 'divine right' complex. They seem to think they're gods very own team.
