Sorry! I'm waiting on the email reply, usually responses are fast but today not, perhaps our source is out today or busy somewhere? I don't know.
As soon as it comes in it'll be here and in the news.

I haven't been reading the forum much, but has anyone else mentioned that Frank Black has a celebrity playlist in iTunes? He just chose about 15 Burl Ives' songs. Kind of funny. |

You don't need an iPod for iTunes. BUT you can't play their files on other portable mp3 players easily (burning to CD is no problem). Listening on your computer's fine.
Still, I agree with you on them basically having a monopoly and leveraging it on to their music service.

If you right click the song on iTunes, I believe you can "convert to mp3" or other formats. I have to do this whenever I want to use the music for anything other than the ipod or listening on the computer.
So, it might be a pain in the ass a bit, but it's not that bad. If that doesn't work, you could burn it to CD and then import it however you like. |

I don't use iTunes but I got the impression that you DRM'd files (ones you buy from the music store) are pretty restricted. Also if you burn compressed files to a CD then compress them again you are going to lose a lot of sound quality. I can't wait for the day we will be able to download lossless music from things like this. |

You could just buy an iPod. Or go to iWantAFreeiPod!.com and they just give you a free iPod.
On a serious note, why not get iTunes? It's a great media player in my opinion, as far as how stuff is organized, etc. And you don't really have to be a "member." You just go to Apple.com and download it for free. All you have to give them is your email address. I think... can't remember.
Oh, I bought a video iPod a couple months ago for anyone who has been wondering. |

w.r.t. restrictions. I think you're only allowed to authorize the song to be played on 5 computers. If you stop using a computer you can use the toolbar to deauthorize the machine before you throw it away. When you authorize a new machine you'll have to log in with your email and password. I'm not sure about the licensing, but realistically you can burn unlimited copies to CD in CD audio format based on 128-bit AAC. (most people argue this is about ~192 bit MP3 quality).
If you ever lose your purchased music due to disc failure, you can simply log in again and download all the music you've purchased from your account. I don't love Apple, but there's no reason to be scared of iTunes if it's got the music you want and nobody else does.
The only drawback I see is the artwork, which is a big deal to me. I wish there were an option to download the music in Apple Lossless format, but unfortunately because of bandwidth that might never happen.
If you do take the plunge you'll probably be excited to find alot of free music also including podcasts and free crappy songs each week.
I downloaded a free Cooking Vinyl podcast that came out 12/21/05, that has some Pixies songs and FB songs.

Very dissapionting if this isn't going to be released on cd's. Some Things was recorded during the DW-sessions if I remember correctly and is of course an Angst-Cover. Belle Isle is a Dylan song.
I hope this will be part of the boxset if there's going to be one

Yes I remember SOME THINGS was a Devil's W out-take. Not sure when BELLE ISLE was recorded.
PREACHER'S DAUGHTER, DON'T CLIP YOUR WINGS, etc. have already had an iTunes release after SMYT came out. I don't like the double tease - surely there will be a co-inciding CD release for OMRFTH SO and/or Box Set? Please!

I get the nasty feeling this might be it. Itunes is nice for artists, as they don't have to distribute, advertise, negotiate, etc. But the restrictions and prices are ridiculous for the consumer.
I bought Cat Power: The Greatest at Best Buy for $7.99, Itunes is selling it for 9.99. I can copy, rip, encode to my hearts content at full CD quality. I get a nice sparkly digipak with full artwork and a CD that I own and can gift or sell to anybody in the entire world who owns a CD player, and they can listen to it.
Itunes is not progress, it sounds worse than CD which came out like 20~ years ago. It takes away all the freedoms that a listener has had since the beginning of recorded sound, and costs too goddamn much.
So Frank, put this shit out on CD. Maybe FrankBlack.net could sell it for you as an exclusive. |

This is driving me mad. I've been waiting for years to get my grubby paws on a collection of FB&C B-sides. And now they're out and I'm slobbering all over my keyboard. But I need to wait for an official confirmation that these are (or aren't) going to be released on CD. If there's no CD release, then I'll gladly buy from itunes. However, if there's going to be CDs that would be so much better because I want the artwork and the lyrics, etc.
Downloading is so damn tempting right now because I want them!!! But I can't... Waiting is hell. |

I FINALLY got these downloaded. It took a really long time. I guess I shouldn't complain since I do have the music now but I'd prefer to have the CDs too. Now, with that said, I really like 'Pan American Highway', 'Take What You Want', and 'Down in the Hole.' I prefer the Snake Oil collection because I hadn't heard most of those songs.
HOW CAN ONE GUY BE SO COOL? I LOVE Frank's music!
I'm thankful to have this to pass the time until the new music is released. |

CDs are a must. Let's all hold hands and concentrate really hard and maybe it'll happen. While I guess, this iTunes thing is okay for some, I personally still consider these comps unreleased.
If no one thinks there's much demand for Catholics b-sides comps on CD, it would be nice if "they" (whoever "they" are) at least pressed them in a sure-to-sell-out limited edition. Like 1,000 or 2,000 copies each. For THE FANS, ya know. They would sell fast, no one would lose money, no one would be sitting a bunch of unsold copies, and because it would be such a small release, it likely wouldn't over saturate the "market", what with Fastman/Raiderman (supposedly) coming out soon and all. |

Yes, at the very least surley Frank can get the disclive or pixiesdiscs guys to do a limited run for the fans, they obviously have the facilities to press CD's in fairly small quantities and make money out of it, this is assuming a label wouldn't want to put it out. For all I know though we might be getting news of a solid release date any time now.

I'm waiting for the official word before I start getting upset that I can't buy it on CD. But damnit, it better be released in CD format! I'm not a big fan of downloading songs from iTunes. Though I enjoy iTunes as a music player.
And seriously, obsessed Frank fans don't want 2 gaps in our CD collections where these albums should go. |

Well, not the official word, but one step below, and it looks like:
1) These are iTunes only releases (no CD). Get 'em while they're holy. 2) FB has decided to pull the idea of a Catholics boxset.
Again, not official, but this is quite assuredly true. Perhaps they couldn't find a way to conceivably make their investment back on a boxset (it was a difficult sell to all but new fans anyway), or perhaps FB is tinkering with bypassing the label; he's hinted as much many times. It's quite possible that these b-sides will turn up on another service such as emusic however, and I don't think the idea would be that bad IF they had PDF liner notes or something.
Not going public with the news until I hear something official, but I thought you would like to be kept abreast.

Could someone please upload Belle Isle and Some Things then? It's the only 2 I don't have, and since iTunes is unavailable here, sharing them shouldn't be a problem.
