Unfortunately I watched the debut of Sidney Crosby- my team the Penguins looked great for the first 10 minutes but Brodeur was unbelievable. Then it went down hill. Thankfully, there are 80 games.

I liked the open play and long breakout passes. I did not like all the penalties.

Game 2 tonight. Penguins lost in a shootout. Once again I am impressed with the pace of play.

I may be developing a crush on the Habs' Mike Ribeiro.

I'm so excited that hockey is back. I think most of the new rules are pretty good and the games I've watched have been soooo fast paced. It's cool.

I hate the goalie trapazoid, though. Some of the most fun moments in hockey are when the goalie wanders too far off and the other team has a wide open net. I love seeing goalies scurry.

I'm going to a Devils/Rangers game in March, and I will be rooting, as always, for the Devils.

Yep. From Toronto to Vancouver.

But C, more important, and alarming but not surpring...

my Mike Ribeiro obsession has reached the cyberstalking level:

He lives only, like, an hour and a half from my house, you know.

Don't bother with Ribeiro; as soon as you got him in the sack he'd dive out and writhe in agony until you left.

Ah, sooooo glad to have hockey back!

Tonight I get to watch Phoenix and Dallas courtesy of OLN. I am apparently too cheap to get the NHL Center Ice package to see more stuff, but I definitely will be watching OLN every Monday and Tuesday...and then the local station will carry Caps games. Anyone else out there have the center ice package...is it worth it?

I'm a Leafs and Avs fan...long story.

I love the idea of the shootout...just haven't witnessed the NHL's version yet. Your thoughts on the other rules changes? Scoring seems to be up so far, but that's like counting chickens before they have hatched. Wasn't there some talk of doing tag-up offsides, or am I thinking AHL?

Keep your head up!

i'm not planning a parade route yet but........

go canucks go!

C, i made a bet with a transplanted edmontonian that canucks would win the season series versus the oil. i know i'm already down a game but i ain't worried, the canucks powerplay is just so darn good.

I'll take that bet.
for one hundred million dollars...mwahahahaha!

Yeah your canucks are very good on the powerplay.
But I think these rules are gonna help the oil as we can be a very fast team.
We'll see.

Yes, they've gone with tag-up offsides again, thank everything. That's one I've wished they'd go back to since I was old enough to understand it. I also like the rule which disallows a line change after icing the puck. Not so crazy about the goalies' puckhandling trapezoid behind the net. I think that could be a "safe zone" for them; they could handle the puck wherever they wish but if they stray from the crease or the trapezoid they're fair game.

Not crazy about the idea of shootouts - they're exciting, sure, but after struggling for 65 minutes as a team there's no worse feeling than losing a game on what will as often as not just be a break. I've been happy to see the Leafs fall on a couple, but I still don't like the concept. Maybe they could eliminate the point for a shootout loss; keep the point for an OT loss, but once you get to the shootout it's all or nothing. That way everyone would play for the win.

Nothing is ever something.

It's way too early in the season to have that attitude, C.

Here's a quote from Brett Hull, to cheer you up: ""I love Barry Manilow."

Now, straighten up and fly right!

They had the game on pay-per-view. A friend of mine ordered it. Believe me, you're glad you missed it. Ugly showing from the Oilers. Dallas has had their number for about ten years now. No matter how hot they are coming in, they rarely seem to get by Dallas.

Just thought I would add that the CHL never went anywhere. OHL hockey is in its prime. Great seats, free parking and beer for about $40.00 for two people.

Tickets behind bench = $11.00
Parking = free
Beer = $3.00/bottle
Game time = 2:00PM on a Sunday afternoon (This is my personal fave game time although I am also partial to the Friday evening game, every once in a while)

Can't beat it.

That said, I am trying to get tickets to see the Habs play at home again this year. A yearly ritual for hockey fans that live in Toronto.

A couple of jokes.

1. What is the difference between the Toronto Maple Leafs and a cigarette vending machine?

- You can get players out of the vending machine. (Players are a brand of cigarette for those who may not be aware)

2. What do the Toronto Maple Leafs and whales have in common?

- They both get very confused when surrouonded by ice.

You're welcome.

Kathryn,

If you live close to Montreal or visit Montreal like I know you do, you can access a lot of QMJHL games. Sidney Crosby played with Rimouski last year and lit it up with his line mates. I know that those tickets were tough to come by in any city that Rimouski visited because everyone wanted to see the phenom. This year I notice that Moncton is hosting the Memorial Cup but tickets for that dance might be a little scarce. There are many teams that will provide a huge value for your money. If you are coming to Montreal to check out the Habs again you should look into grabbing a couple of QMJHL tickets for a local game. It is a amazing atmosphere and a very intimate setting. Great hockey as well. Quebec is known for the scoring which might explain why they produce such excellent goalies. I would be a great goalie if I faced an average of 40-45 shots a game. The forwards Quebec produces are steeped in history.

The faces of the young Quebecers are still in good shape as well. Real teeth and not as many scars. You might find a different reason to enjoy the youngsters playing our game.

So you're a goalie? Where do you play?

You are so right about the QMJHL. But I am down on the league this week because one of its upcoming midget tournaments is ruining my life, but that's another story.

Very clever K. Although you might want to play down your obsession with the midgets. Whether you are speaking about 'small people' or the fine young tweenies that are playing the game you love. Don't want to see you get typecast as a cougar or a freak.

Are you speaking about the Silver Stick or the Air Canada Cup. (Not even sure if they still call it the AC cup? I am not sure if Air Canada could flip the cost for such an extravagent tournament. I mean they can't even afford to feed their clientele!)
