from the article: syd a "writer of a dozen's of their most known songs" ???
i love his music, and i think besides figures like dylan and lennon he is one of the greatest songwriters EVER, but hey, his songs are not known at all.

I've been reading American Psycho and it got me thinking.
Wouldn't it be just huge if Genesis got back together?
There'd be ripples inthe space-time continuum.

I'm pretty pissed off about this, I just went down to tell my dad and just found out he's ordered one ticket for the gig. One. For him. Not me. Grr.
Who said anything about carving you up, man? I just wanted to carve a Z into your forehead... |

I am already salivating at the notion of the DVD which I can only hope n pray is released of the London show. Geldof is THE MAN to have arranged this. |

Seems like I'm the massive minority of prefering the post-Barrett Floyd. Fair enough. I think they'll play maybe Money, Another Brick 2, Wish You Were here, I dunno... I'd like to hear Fearless.
I'll watch on't telly, I reckon.

They always just play all the old cliche hits. By "they" I mean both Floyd (minus Waters) as well as Waters solo and Gilmour solo (I've seen the three variations more times than I care to count). Playing those cliches with Waters wouldn't be as thrilling as them performing early Floyd, even if it's without Syd.

I thought it would be great if they played On The Turning Away but I think Roger wouldn't be having that....would be perfect though
I'm betting on hmmmmmm that's a good Q. I will have to think about that and come back.

after chatting about this the whole way home with the friend I carpool with, I think I'm fairly comfortable in aserting this as my setlist: Comfortably Numb Wish You Were Here and..... this is the one that gives me quandary..... I'm going to say Breathe. Although Shine on... really makes me wonder, too.... I will be very surprised if it's any obvious 'wall' stuff (another brick in the wall, another brick in the wall) and I doubt they'd do anything BUT comf. numb from the wall. I don't think they'll do early or late stuff, sticking mostly to the time period of the songs I mentioned. in my dreams they will do brain damage but i don't see that either. Gilmour has said in interviews that they steer clear of a lot of the earlier stuff and stick with what we may call the more 'popular' tunes because he knows that the more spacey, head music would be inappropriate after syd left, and i will take what i can get from them. i think that's a valiant attitude and he's right. also, not many of us would wanna hear 'careful with that axe eugene' while standing on a concrete slab in an arena haha ok i'd do it but that's just me :) You know you're getting older when you can imagine yourself cuddling next to david gilmour at both his oldest and his youngest.

I think you need to add the entire Atom Heart Mother album to your list.
Which reminds me, that'd be amazing if they played the song "Atom Heart Mother". Am I the only one who prefers that one to their other 23 minute, side long epic (which is of course "Echoes")? |

Well...
Pink Floyd has good tunes, ok, especially in their earleir days... but in the end... isn't it a very boring band???
I mean I'm a Bowie and Pere Ubu fan... And all Pink Floyds albums including the dark side of my ass are quite ... well, simply boring for me...
Sorry

well shit. I rock, then! actually it was my friend who came up with breathe. I sort of thought 'shine On' to be a tribute to syd.... I'm a little disappointed, though, as much as I like Breathe I'd rather have Brain Damage. The fact is, Comfortably Numb and Wish You Were Here were a little too easy to guess. wish we had papers that announced things like that. We in california are still obssessed with supposed terrorists in lodi and arnold's special fucking election. |

Astronomy Domine, Bike, Pow R Toch, Matilda Mother, Lucifer Sam (whoa, have not heard this in a long time), Scarecrow, Bike, The Gnome, Flaming, Ch 24 (sitars, summer of love, Satanic Majesties and Sgt. Pepper's, it's all there), all classic Syd.
Syd's songs from Saucerful of Secrets were recorded Feb. - May '67. Slightly ahead of Pepper's!
I miss Syd and Brian Jones. excuse thread incongruity

Oh yes I do, Mass Pleeze. But my favorite track on Ummagumma is, suprisingly, David Gilmour's The Narrow Way. I say suprisingly because I normally don't like Gilmour's stuff. All his solos lack any sense of experimentation; they sound like the work of a guy who locked himself in a room for 36 hours and memorized all the pentatonic scales. Barrett was a much better guitar player.
I'm glad they're playing Breathe. It's one of my favuouoaurites from Dark Side. So much better than Time. |

I see what you mean IceCream, and usually I'd agree with you about experimentation and all that. But Dave Gilmour is one of my favourite guitarists - in terms of traditional style playing, I think he's one of the best, his note choice is perfect.
