In a collective push to get our song db as chock full of information as possible, we're going to experiment with posting a new song every couple days to the forum. This is where you come in. If you know anything about the song (or are interested in trying to find out through some skilled sleuthing) then the idea is that you post your knowledge (with source if possible). If it's conjecture, that's great too (just please label it as such), because it'll help get people talking.
El Barto, the Song DB Master, will then take what elements he can from the thread and put them into the db. It should be full of tidbits in no time!
What sort of information are we looking for? Anything that gives insight into the song's meaning, creation, etc for one. As well, interesting nuggets of information.
Examples:
Descriptions of (possible) song references
Quotes from FB or other notables on the song
Definitions to words you think might not be immediately obvious
If you're not sure about something, post and ask! You may jog someone's memory. - Cult_Of_Frank
already on db....

I'm working on Madhyastha I won't finish what you start I'm not trying to listen Yeah, I'm trying so hard

Frank only seems to sing the 'st' bit of star. Did he make a mistake or was he doing the old half a word trick like in Velvety, where he sings Californ... Hmmmmmmm

There was just the least material on them. You have a suggestion for the next album?

Frank dropping parts of words isn't a mistake. Saying "Californ" instead of the whole word is kinda of a folksy way to talk, kinda Western. It's an American thing.

So, if Jaina Blues is about Jainism, and if Jane, the Queen of Love is about Jainism.....or so I've read somewhere here,...then,...if my math is correct, that would be two songs about Jainism....?....Why....? Why not say all you've got to say in one song? After looking over the lyrics to Jane The Queen of Love, I don't see any Jainism references, do you?
[hope this isn't too much off-topic, but perhaps it will spur some insight from someone else] |

Yeah, Jane The Queen of Love is definitely about Jainism. I remember something about the "bumblebee" bit being a direct reference to some Jain symbol.

quote: quote: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Oh yeah. I think that Jane Queen of Love is about the spiritual belief called Jain. Look at the web page via Frank's bio. It just gots ta be! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ You must be right Bren, there are even a number of references to bumble bees on that site: (From JAINWORLD) The term used for begging in Jainism is madhukari-eating by the bumble bee. Just as a bee takes juice from different flowers without discrimination and without hurting them, similarly the Jain monk takes food from different households in small quantities and without discrimination between rich or poor household or the quality of food offered.
Two songs about Jainism, because Frank learned about it, and thought it was cool. Like there's more than one song about space, or the planet Mars.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with it either. It's sort of a continuing story in a way, maybe a little like Velouria/Velvety.

i always thought jane was about jean, the queen of love. other than the bumble bee love reference it's a pretty straight forward break-up song.

before reading the lyrics i thought the song was about a female motormechanic (Jaina being her name) too busy to fix a guy's car (verse 1 & 2) and then agrees to help him with the diy repairs the guy's done ("i"m gonna help u thru this part")on his own car but finds it too difficult ("I never dreamed that this would be so hard") and just refuses to proceed any further work ("i won't finish what you start").
Am i going to post this ? Yes.

I don't think so. If Frank really needed album filler, he would have used one of those songs that are now iTunes exclusives.

Oops... Looks like someone made a typo. Susquatch certainly wanted to write "One of the 2 or 3 best songs of the album" and mistakenly wrote "weak" instead.

do you think it's worth putting a link to the frank-suggested-jainism site in the db for those who want to read further into it, I think that would be a good idea!

Frank can sing in so many different ways, but I like when his voice is all raspy like in this song. Not like this is helpful in any way.....just sayin.

That's cool, seems there are a few people who think this song is weaker, personally I loves it, I think it was the first one that got me tapping my feet (I've never been a big Nadine fan) when I first heard the album.

I'd say all that stuff about Maitri and Pramoda and Madhyastha is hard concrete evidence of what the title refers to and what the song is about.

- Oh, one other thing. How serious are you about Jainism? Does this extend to a karma free diet?
- Well, how serious are YOU about Jainism? Now, karma free diet...is that like free-range? Sorry. A little dark humor. I dig the Jains. Ever see the monastery with the bug chutes? Gently sweep 'em in and send 'em on their way! Amazing. The Jain grain sellers, too...with the food bowls for the rats! Great. No. I do dig 'em. I like that one site. real peaceful-like. I guess philosophy is something that you can dicuss all night. But I like to read the Jain stuff on that site from time to time. Dunno why. Just do. |
