Anyone notice a connection between a link in frankusblackus' profile and a certain fourth track on a certain unreleased album? This is probably a weird post, but what the hell, I didn't sleep tonight, so I was reading over the SMYT lyrics and found how to spell maitri, karuna and madhyastha so I googled. Still sorta studying the lyrics. Anyone know much about this subject or the context it has with the lyrics?

I work for my University's newspaper (The Louisville Cardinal, link in my profile) and I'm writing a review for the features section, so I have a presskit. Either way, aside from those words the lyrics aren't too hard to decipher by listening (if you've heard it.)

The same link has been noted and discussed before in relation to "Jane the Queen of Love", Ben:

I've thought about putting what lyrics I've transcribed online, but don't know if I should until Sept. 9th.

Hmm, cool...didn't notice it with JtQoL...but I kinda see, I'll have to give it a few more listens now that I know that.

Neat..interesting Jane reference too.

I'm a little keen on Jainism, since it's the only vegan religion. =)

I haven't done any research, but for Jaina Blues and those words, i'm guessing they're different spiritual 'levels', and the way it's narrated is very similar to how a guru would, in the sense that he's 'helping' you to reach these 'levels'.

Anyone got a definition for them?

I have an actual promo of the CD with full retail packaging, which contains all of the lyrics to each song.

Okay, I found something cool:

http://jaincenter-ct.org/level3_hw1.htm

So they're the four Bhavnas or "virtues" of Jainism it seems.

  • Maitri - Amity, love, and friendship

  • Pramoda - Appreciation, respect and joy

  • Karuna - Compassion

  • Madhyastha - Equanimity and tolerance

I love how songs get more interesting when you find stuff like this in them. They suddenly make so much more sense, which is something so prevalent in FB's songs and a big reason I'm a fan. He likes to make his listeners research. :)

Edit: reformatted the virtues list so it wasn't all shuffled.
