Today's random song of the day is Jane the Queen of Love.
What do you think of it?
lyrics Once my dear is not enough Let me tell you about Jane she''s the queen of love She’s the queen of love and she''s the bane Of we who know wherever she goes she will reign She will reign She reigns
Jane, she''s the queen of love Jane, she makes bumblebee love You are the only one Yeah that''s just what you are
I''ve been so blue Sleeping till noon, darling Watching cartoons But I could not ease the pain I hear the phone line And I hope that isn''t you
Jane, she was my only love Jane, and though our love is done You are the only one Yeah that''s just what you are
Jane, she''s the queen of love Jane, she makes busybee love You are the only one Yeah that''s just what you are
You are the only one Yeah that''s just what you are

I don't know what to think about this song.
Quite a typical FB song, in its construction. I think it's too easy for Frank to write that kind of songs, putting just a little bit of his talent inside (like "she makes busybee love", for instance). It sounds like many other FB songs, so it sounds great live, but I don't think there is a serious effort behind. For another songwriter, it could be OK, but for FB, it's just under average.

Adnan, you're going to have to make your signature image smaller or choose a different one. Sorry.

Just wondering how I get into the "I know whether or not Frank Black put any effort into writing this song" club?
I seriously doubt that Frank just tossed this off and wiped it off with a tissue afterwards.
If he did, and THIS SONG is the result...I'll take his toss offs over anyone else's labor of Love any day. |

This is a great song. After the intro, when Frank rips into the opening chords on the acoustic it's pure bliss. |

All I don't like about this song is the verse, it's just so non-melodic (is that a word?) But then again: one of my favourite FB songs of all time! One of the best melodies in a chorus I've ever heard!

I love this song! I'm not so big on the "she makes Bumble Bee love" line though. What the heck is Bumble bee love? I had a couple of moths land on my leg the other night that were making "ugly moth love". That was a disgusting image that I never want to see again! I can only imagine Bumble Bee love would look kinda similar to that. I'm probably just pissed that every living creature around me is getting to make love, except for myself.

Maybe it's because of the ass wart...just, you know, kicking that around.
What DOES the line Bumble-bee love mean? |

I think "She makes bumblebee love" is a reference to the yellow beetle transformer. He's widely acknowledged as the casanova of the robots in disguise set. |

But seriously, the bee has a crapload of metaphorical meanings, but I think it was posited here that the most blatant symbolic reference, due to the title of the song, etc., was its symbolism in Jainism. The man himself has a link to a Jainism site in one of his profiles. I can't remember the exact reference....someone else? Or if you can gimmee a sec....

I must say it took me some time to appreciate this song. In fact, the more I listen to it, the more I like it. |

In one reference, it is defining the practice of a Jain monk:
from http://www.arham.com/abt_jain3.htm "Jain Monk
Right faith and Right knowledge usually go together, one should have faith in the one who is a spiritual climax of positive dynamism who is "Arhat" - Right Faith means, therefore the Faith in the Omniscient Teacher - "Arhat". Right conduct prescribed by Jainism is very difficult to observe. But if you have "Right Faith" right behaviour will come in the natural course. A Jain monk has no home of his own. He moves from village to village on barefoot. He does not shave but removes his hair by plucking. He keeps no extra clothes. He does not keep money. He meditates and prays in silence and solitude. He does not take bath, for there is life in water, (the water itself is a living entity). He does not want to hurt anyone, he does not cook, because there is life in fire. Solicits his requirements by visiting several house-holders but accepts equivalent to only a few morsels per family just as honey-bee gathers honey. He does not use vehicles in order to protect the life in particles of dust on the road. His every tissue and texture of life is beaming with reverence for life and this is the essence of Jainism.
From where does he get such enormous strength to observe "Right Conduct" prescribed by Jainism? The answer is rule of aspiration and strength. Higher the aspiration, higher is the flow of strength. "Right Faith" is the aspiration, which is the highest in case of Jain monks, and Right Conduct is born out of aspiration and it is also the highest. Therefore Jainism puts all its stress on "Right Faith". "Right knowledge" is a bridge between "Right Faith" and "Right Conduct". There are fundamental divisions of spiritual life, which Jainism introduces us."

Someone of the faith (presumably) posted this on a philosophy forum (first -administrator- post on the page):
http://forums.philosophyforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=691
"This is an allegory of what life is like according to Jainism:
A jobless, starving person leaves their town and in desperation sets out on foot across the forest to try to find another town where life is better. Out of the forest comes an enraged elephant, charging at the man. There's a tall tree which could in theory be an escape, but the elephant is in between him and the tree. He climbs down into a well to escape from the elephant, holding onto reeds to keep himself from falling. He hears a noise and looks down to see a bunch of pythons at the bottom of the well looking up at him waiting for him to fall. He looks up and sees mice chewing on the reeds, and knows it's only a matter of time until they chew through and he falls. He hears the elephant waiting above... and now the elephant knocks a beehive down into the well onto him. In between bee stings a drop of honey hits the man's tongue... and instantly he forgets all about his predicament and savors the taste of the honey.
In this allegory the python is death, the mice are time, the bee stings are the common sufferings in life, the honey is the little pleasures we savor, and I don't recall what the elephant is (maybe attachment?). The tall tree is salvation."...

Whoa, the Jain Study Center at jainism.org is like ten minutes away from me. Should I sell all my worldly possessions, forgo the pleasures of bacon, and get Jainified to gain a deeper understanding of Frank. I've done lots of yoga and some tai-chi like thing so maybe I've got the necessary pre-reqs.

Make that like two minutes from my house. Road Trip!!!
I have pretty much cut dairy out of my life and I'm no longer dependent on Flonase® for allergy relief as a result. But I love the taste of dead animals. I'm just not sure how carnivorous vegans go over with Jainists. |

Well, it's rather stupid to say "oh that song is really awesome" each time the oracle suggests a song. I can express my opinion (did you notice I said "i don't think"). If you want to join the club of people who express their opinions on things, feel free to contact me, and I will give you my account number so that you can pay me a membership fee.
Frank is such a great songwriter, there are so many of his songs that are really superior to "Jane the queen of love". Saying that "Jane the queen of love" sucks is justice for much better songs. |

I really dig the acoustic at the beginning. The chorus is another part I'm pretty fond of. A good-ass song. |
