Jim (El Barto), our Song DB Master, is looking for assistant editors to help fill the song database with trivia and information for the various songs. You can help just by visiting and mailing additions to Jim, or by signing on to be a Song DB Guru yourself and take charge of a particular album or albums.
We'd like the database to be the definitive place to go to find out all sorts of things you might never have known about songs and albums. Like, for example, that Speedy Marie contains an acrostic. Or Blast Off contains a count down. Or...
You don't have to know everything, just be willing to hunt, acquire info, and post it to Jim.
If you're interested, please sign up here.
Finally, we will be modifying the DB soon to include an easy link to submit content to Jim on each song, so it'll be even easier to send suggestions and content to him.
Thanks! |

if El Barto's machine gets to overwhelmed with mails, i'm up for helping out
maybe we could have individual posts for songs which gets updated so everyone knows what's already been contributed, and this could be a very bad idea so i'll shut up
(feel free to delete 1st post if too much info overload) |

No no, no ideas are bad. Maybe we should collectively focus on a song every couple days or something. Start with orange album and move forward from there...

Cool...
If it's going to be collective effort cool, if we're taking an album each cool and count tre in either way.
However, if you're going to throw albums out there, I'll hold my hand up here and say don't throw a Catholics album at me because I've been listening to solo Frank for years n years but the catholics... not so long, in fact I have only recently in the last three weeks got all the albums...
(I know I know don't glare or point... I'm a student...)
[edit] although... saying that I'm a quick learner and even quicker when it comes to stuff I like, I changed my mind, Dean you can use and abuse me however you see fit

I've waited so long to hear a girl say that to me... :)
Let's just wait a bit and see who else is interested and how they'd like to do it. Thanks for your quick and enthusiastic responses, though.

I think what we'll do is just work from the back forwards, actually... I tried to implement a system to organize things a little today, but no luck from work, so we'll stick to using individual threads and start from SMYT working forwards since there is the least amount of info on that... I'm actually going to create the thread right now.

Sounds like a great idea to me, Dean.
Someone might need to do some site searching to find some of the songs that have been discussed already. The more info the better, right? I remember there being some great multi-threaded discussions in the past, and some of the older contributors don't come around much anymore. Would be nice to add that earlier info, if it isn't redundant of course. |

Yeah, that's very true. I don't want to burden you with that Jen, but maybe someone not working on artwork is interested in using the not-so-super search engine in the FB chat to find some old song info. Preferably someone who knows how to get it to return results that aren't "timed out". :)

would love to do that but I still get the time-outs, I've never made that thing work, I'll try from uni tomorrow and let you know if I have any joy, I tried twice today looking for something for Kathryn and ended up just going through the threads to find it.
Does anyone ever make it work?

I used it to dig up some of the stuff I posted. Searching the archives usually works, helps if you have an idea about the subject so it doesn't have to search the entire text...

Please! Really, the more the merrier.
I'd like to have someone digging through old posts here, someone looking elsewhere for possibly new material, and someone (hopefully El Barto) starting threads for songs the way I've done for Nadine - preferably the same format.
If you guys have a preference as to which one of these people you'd like to be, let me know. Once we get going, I'll give you all cool titles. :)

Is jim gonna go through all of the information mailed to him by himself?!?! That may be incredibly time consuming especially as he will also be putting it on to the actual site.
Im happy to be asst. gathered information editor if needed? As long as i can just send the edited stuff to jim...It would mean Jim could concentrate more on getting it to the actual DB?

That's up to Jim, m'lady, I suggest you send him an email if you're interested, though. I'm sure someone grabbing all the relevant data from the threads and passing it along would be a help to him so long as you're careful about getting everything.
Send him an email and see if he'd like to do it that way.
Tobafett and Tre are my two volunteers so far (aside from Mel, obviously). I don't care who takes which task, so if either of you has a preference, by all means say so. I'd like to hand the task of creating the threads and keeping the ball rolling off (threads created for a new song every few days so as not to divide attention and give the current song the required attention).

Mondo, no preference to thread/web search but I'm still thread searching via google, I only made the forum search work once (it was quite exciting until I realised I'd discovered pretty much nothing doing so, then I made a sad face)
I don't mind starting new threads either if no one else wants to, you want one every four days or so?

It'll depend on how busy a thread is. Like if it looks like there's nothing more to be said about Nadine, then start a new one I guess. I'd keep the instructions post I used at the beginning of Nadine at the top of all of them so that people know what to look for without having to go back to Nadine to see what the thread's about, and I'd keep the format of posting what we already have. But generally, yeah, every three or four.
I'll worry about the titlature once things seem to be moving along at a steady pace.
Thanks to everyone who's helped either by posting or just looking (even if they didn't find anything). The fact that this is collaborative should mean that we get all sorts of stuff that a lone gun might miss.

How would you know if the info you are getting is true? We need Franky here to verify. Perhaps Dean, if you could arrange for him to come round to our houses to verify ; )
I was gonna offer to help, but I see you don't want it for Pixies songs, and I know more about them than Frank's other stuff. Most people here probably know more about his other stuff than I do, I'd only get it wrong. |

We want a source with each quote/etc, I guess. It'd be great to have Frank come by and say, "This song was about this and is related to that" for a bunch of tracks, but it's not likely to happen I'm afraid.

the only song i can really tell you about is bullett and i can only tell from what i remember frank saying at the johnny foley's show - San fran 2000. i don't if everything he said was true but it made for a neat story and song.

Well you're doing a great job Tre, everytime I step on one of your songdb threads you've already said all there is to say about the songs. I was wondering, shouldn't we first try to finish the discography before we add all the trivia about the songs? I'm not saying it's uninteresting, I love reading all these thoughts and quotes, but doing this will take us months and meanwhile we still haven't got a proper discography. I'd like to see all the EPs, compilations and tribute albums where Frank appears, and I'd like to have the cat. numbers of all the different editions of the albums. I'm just saying, I don't have much time to help so feel free to ignore my post.
