She is doing a great job and Denis may be on to something in that you've done a lot of the obvious digging when you start the thread, Tre, (which is great) and maybe that's why people aren't having anything to say? I'm not saying don't do it, though, I think that's great and that's why you're gonna' have to get a really cool title. Just might be an explanation of sorts.
As for the discography, you're probably right, but that could be done in a single thread. Jim's got a lot of EPs and so forth in the db but not much else. If you want to do some looking to get started and then start a thread, that'd be cool. I have a few listed in his bio, which might be a good place to jump off.
Anyway, keep up the good work guys! Seriously, this is going to be very cool and complete when we're through, I think.

Tobafett or Mel, since Tre's covering the research/thread starting so amazingly, maybe you could just copy the thread and edit out the irrelevant stuff (back-and-forth, etc) to mail to Jim (and CC me on it too - my email is cof at fb dot net except full frankblack instead of fb)?

Perhaps you could do one thread for each album instead of a song-by-song thing, Tre. It might save some time. For instance I'm not sure there's much to say about New House Of The Pope apart from the wine thing. So we could choose an album and everyone throws in their thoughts about whichever song they want. I don't know if that would save you some time or on the contrary make it more difficult to read and pick the relevant stuff.
Just my random thoughts. I don't even know if it makes sense. I'm so fucking tired and I have a lot of work to do. What am I doing here anyway?

We could try the one thread per album for the next one, see if that flies...
Definitely some songs will have more to discuss that others, I'd just hoped that maybe by focusing on one song at a time that some adventurous or brave soul would discover something that wasn't necessarily common knowledge.

what I might try next time then is keeping the stuff I've dugged up back for a while and see if that increases the thread through put, if it seems to get more people talking I can hang back and only shove in whats (if anything) been left out at the end. If it doesn't I'll carry on stamping all over them thar threads.

couple of points (oh you're so going to get sick of me fast)
db threads intro: whilst the one we have is comprehensive do you think a more informal request for information would make the threads feel less "regimented?" maybe setting it song oracle style, posting the lyrics then a couple of starter points and seeing where it goes from there?
Guitar tabs: there's some on the site that aren't linked to the db, should this get noted in the respective threads also?

sure thing, I've let the two threads run for a little while so I'll start whacking in quotes and facts (if there are any) and links if the tabs are missing.
Is anyone actually editing through the threads yet? If not I have all the stuff I've put in them in word documents so I could add the new things from the threads to that and send e mails to jim cc yourself?

for the 'official' song db, we want tangible facts, right? not "I think this has to do with UFOs"....right? I'm thinking of Jane, the Queen of Love--apl4eris says it's about Jainism b/c of a reference to a bumblebee and quotes Jain texts but I'm not sure if the song actually is referring to Jain...do we let Jim decide? should I just forward the facts, ma'am or our educated guesses as well?

Actually, I emailed Jim and I think he wants to come by and look at the threads himself to sort it out, so you don't have to worry about it. Thanks for the offer, though. If you want to help Tre with starting threads and digging up stuff, then that's great.
Some of the songs (like Jane), we actually know are about Jainism (though I can't remember where the evidence came from. Really, a lot of what we have is speculative in a sense, in that we don't have official "from Frank" proof about its meaning - like Everything Is New. But there's enough evidence there to build a compelling argument and so that material's presented. I guess it's like reinforced theory as opposed to solid fact, y'know?

Yeah, we should hold off on it a bit, though I'm hoping that he will be doing them right away. I think he needs a second person (I asked him to start updating over a month ago). Would you like to be a co-admin on the db so you can add stuff yourself?

To clarify, the press release from SMYT was added here.
I'm pretty sure I didn't remove it because it was the first thing I added and I didn't touch it after, as I've been adding things I have been checking the site as well to make sure it's been done right so I know full well it was there.
It took me time to put it up and get it right, I had to have a quick lesson in html from Dean today to do so. I have spent some considerable time putting this together, both the threads and shoving the stuff in the db, and I'm writing a case study on emphysema at the same time so I'm not exactly un-busy.
So at the risk of sounding slightly rude here, if someone and I don't care who, took it down without telling me they were doing so first and why I am going to be pretty pissed off.
So unless I get a nice e mail, or a post, with an explanation it's going back up, as it was requested in the first place.

I indented it because it was a longer quote and sub- to the chet baker definition, did you change it Dean?
