It was my first Miike film so I can't compare.
For tonight I'm hesitating between Wild Zero! and Dawn Of The Dead. I think DoTD is in French though so I might go for the former.

I saw "The Serpent and the Rainbow" on Monday night. It was pretty good, but I think the Haitian cultural stuff was more interesting than the story.

TROLL 2 - not exaggerating at all when I say that this film has some of the worst acting ever commited to film. It was so terrible in fact that I couldn't help but enjoy it.

BEST LINES: MOM - "So do you guys have any coffee here?"
WEIRDO STORE OWNER - "WE DON'T HAVE COFFEE HERE! IT'S THE DEVILS DRINK!!"

Two thumbs up.

I bet it isn't much worse than Alone In The Dark that I watch last night. I wish that's where this would have been left.

Yeah! Troll 2. Fantastic movie which has the peculiarity of not having a single Troll in it (they're goblins).

- Sheriff Freak: There're sandwiches for tonight! It'll go easier on you if you eat'em. Otherwise, we'll be forced to kill you VIOLENTLY!
- Drugstore Owner: It would be a shame! The blood would mix with the meat, and we'd have to leave it in vinegar for the whole night!

L'Ivresse Du Pouvoir - C. Chabrol: Very good one. Isabelle Hupert is brilliant. The others actors are very good too. Dialogs are remarkable. What is also good in that movie is that it's not over-simplificated or over-obliging at all even if the subject is complex.

At last I watched Wild Zero. And I was not disappointed. This might be the best movie ever made. Think "Bad Taste" where the boys would be replaced by the best (and coolest) Japanese hardcore punk band ever: Guitar Wolf. Instead of the chainsaw you got guitar swords and laser guitar picks, and half of the dialogs consists in Guitar Wolf yelling LOCK 'N' LOLL!! while Bass Wolf and Drum Wolf comb their hair. Now I need to find some good friends to play the drinking game along.

Over the weekend I watched Riot At The Rite, I guess you'd call it a TV movie. Although, it was on BBC2 so it's a bit classier than that suggests.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/classicaltv/riotattherite.shtml

I very much enjoyed it - it's about the opening on Stravinsky's The Rite Of Spring in Paris. I was familiar with the music from college, but it was good to see some historical context, and also how it went with the dancing. The acting was ace - Nijinsky was excellent and I really enjoyed Aidan MacArdle as Stravinksy.

That's funny, Brian said exactly the same thing.

I thought it pretty good. Definitely enjoyable.

I watched Airplane last night. I HAD to show it to a girl who had never even heard of it before.

Well we ended up in bed so I guess it really IS a great film.

The Constant Gardener (2005) - Very, very good. Ralph Finnes was excellent...everyone was.

Jarhead (2005) - Stupid.

A History Of Violence (2005) - Cronenberg rocks. I love his ridiculous gore.

That was so cheap. And you'd think the fact that the town was called Nilbog would be some clue for the victims...

Films I've seen lately:

La Dolce Vita: The only Fellini film I've seen, wonderful stuff, must have been a bit risque at the time. Lots of beutiful women, including of course Anita Ekberg (And I was really surprized to see Nico in it.)

Contamination: Kind of slow former video nasty (now rated 15!!), not too bad, a bit of an Alien rip-off if you ask me (exploding chests, pulsating cocoons).

The Brood: The uncut US version. Creepy Cronenberg stuff, saw the cut version years ago.

The Hills Have Eyes (2006): Saw this last night, nicely shot and atmospheric, with a good, creepy soundtrack. Pretty nasty and bloody. Quite tense and scary in places.

And I also saw Animal Farm again (not the porno!).

The New World - T. Malick: I was really disappointed during the first half hour. Then I started to like the movie, and at the end, I think I really appreciated it. But I think it's the Malick movie that I like the less. Maybe too much voice off and and the music is sometimes unbearable. Mayber there's also too much camera moves sometimes (when it should have stayed static IMO)

Weird. I loved the music (especially the Wagner theme). I only saw Thin Red Line and the New World but I loved both, I'll try to check out the other 2.
Read an interesting article last week on how The New World is starting to become a cult movie in NYC, with lots of people going to midnight screenings again and again. Here it is from the Village Voice:

Yeah, the Wagner theme is great, indeed, in fact I was talking of other musical themes especially during the first hour.
You gotta see Badlands Denis. The music in this one is incredible.

Watched this weekend:
- Almost Famous. Man, that sucked. I thought it'd be mildly good, but there was nothing to be saved from this crap. Oh yeah, they put a bunch of great Led Zep tunes in the soundtrack.
- The Hudsucker Proxy. Pretty good Coen movie.

Watched "K-19, the Widow Maker". Better than I expected.

Captain Alexei Vostrikov: How are the men?
Dr. Savran: How would I know? I don't know the first thing about radiation sickness.
Captain Alexei Vostrikov: Please....
Dr. Savran: I'm giving them aspirin. And I'm trying to prevent those who are dying from irradiating those of us who still have some hope.
Captain Alexei Vostrikov: Pull yourself together. You're an officer in the Soviet Navy. Go back and tell them that they're improving - as you say, you know nothing about radiation sickness. Perhaps they are...

Yesterday I watched Raising Cain. I never thought I'd say this about a De Palma movie, but this film sucked. Terrible acting, subpar direction, lousy plot. Now I'm gonna buy the Phantom of the Paradise dvd to regain faith in my fave director ever.

De Palma makes the best sequence shot ever in each of his movies, but I didn't notice any in Raising Cain. Surely it can't be better than the beginning of Snake Eyes or Femme Fatale.

That's right... I haven't seen Femme Fatale, but I can assure you that the one that is in Raising Cain is perhaps as good as Snake Eye's one. Aaah, talking of these movies makes me want to see them again.
