So what gigs have you all got coming up?

I saw Placebo on Friday, which was very good. Third time ive seen them live, and what really made my night was during the encore, Robert Smith (yes, I did say ROBERT SMITH) joined them on stage for my favourite song!!!! Best gig for a long time.

Anyway, Im seeing Jim Bob from Carter USM tomorrow(mon)

Then Muse, Morrisey (maybe) Manic Street Preachers, And a few others that dont begin with M, im sure....

SO who are you seeing in the next few months? And any amazing moments from recent gigs?

God forbid I exude confidence and enjoy sex

You are one lucky Gypsy! !

Three Pixies shows for me this month. Woo hoo! No chance Robert Smith will do an encore with them, I'm afraid.

I've just had two of the gigs of my life (Pixies, Frank and Breeders have their own entire category in terms gig experiences) - firstly Mastodon at the Garage which was awesome in every sense of the word - I so wasn't expecting that and Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster at the Cockpit which was sulbime perfection.

As for coming up - I've got Dillinger Escape Plan (what on earth am I thinking? But hey, it's free) and Mark Lanegan (with the lovely Nick Oliveri) the following night. Still considering Mclusky and now also toying seeing with Kaiser Chiefs.

Over in the US it looks likely to be Violent Femmes (for new years I think) and Reverend Horton Heat.

You are all so VERY LUCKY! I´ve seen the Pixies this summer and the Cure (not together!). But I guess that's all for this year! I don´t really mind because I thought I would never get to see the Pixies in my life and I did, so I´m complete now!

John Schofield and Maceo Parker this month, REM in January and maybe Faithless next week, also a great flamencofusion group from Madrid called Elbicho.

But whenever, as scholars sometimes do, I turned my back on books, declaring them to be the graveyards of the language, and sought contact with the simple folk, I encountered the little cannibals who lived in our building, and after brief association with them, felt very glad to get back to my reading in one piece.

recently saw Air play at the Hollywood Bowl (Stereolab opening).. despite the fact that that was the evening my girlfriend and i broke up, it was an amazing show that i will remember fondly. Beck came out and sang a song with them.

Hollywood Bowl is a beautiful outdoor auditorium where you can bring in your own food and drinks (including alcohol). the perfect way to see a show if i don't say so.

Last concerts I went to: Blues Explosion (great) and Carl Craig aka Tres Demented, which was frigging awesome. Sorry Pixies, but Tres Demented will come 1st in my top 10 of this year.

Saw Mark Lanegan on Sunday night. Good gig - not a patch on the utterly astounding Dillinger Escape Plan, but good nonetheless. Don't bother with Nick Oliveri's acoustic set - awful awful awful. Watch for the tension between the lead guitarist and the bass player. On Sunday night there were punches thrown on their way off stage! First time I've ever seen that at a gig.

Cool, I was going to ask how that was, I'm down there tonight.

Apart from that, memorable moments this year have included Tanya Donelly (#1 for the year), Hope Of The States and 50 Foot Wave.

I love Ella Guru, I saw them supporting Silver Mount Zion a while back. The album is pretty good, but I thought the single beforehand (3 Songs From Liverpool) was blinding.
I'm going to try and make it for Low at the Royal Festival Hall, should be pretty cool.

'Kay, so I saw Mark Lanegan last night. He must have had an off night up North, Nicole, because it was a fantastic show. Nick Oliveri's acoustic set sucked though.

I didn't say he wasn't good - just that I'd seen Dillinger the night before who are a tough act to follow - ideally I'd have wanted Mark on Friday and Dillinger on Saturday.

Any punches thrown this time around or are they all friends again?

Looked pretty friendly to me!
It was a lot more rocky/noisy than I expected, with some excellent noisy freak outs, which me likey.
They played Autopilot by QOTSA in the encore, and what I can only presume were a couple of Trees songs. Would this be correct?

I love watching people at gigs: during the spacey jam bit at the end (basically 20 minutes of random noise) there was guy in the crowd partying away, dancing like he was at a Happy Mondays concert or something.

Could be, they did play two sets! But there was no mention of no support act or so, there was an after party with green hornet, a dutch band, does the support act have to go on stage first? I don't know. The concert was pretty weird, the last 3 times I saw them he ended his concert with the most destructive theremin, guitar, amp and microphone throwing, this time he did it after 30 minutes and he left. They did come back in 5 minutes and played another 1 1/2 hours. So it was a nice show after all.

Were the Advantage there? Whaddaya think of 'em?
I only went to a few this year:

50 Foot Wave w/ The Ovulators and some crappy funk rock band
Pixies w/ Audio Learning Center
Don Caballero w/ Menomena, Chevron, and some crappy garage rock band
Pinback w/ The Advantage, Neil Hamburger

My favorite was probably Don Caballero.

Not mean at all! Man I have a quirk in my brain where half the time I reference Ryan Adams I say Elliot Smith. I saw Adams at Austin City Limits fest for the first time and thought he was good. Before seeing him live I wasnt familiar with he or Smith and constantly got them mixed up. Now i have downloaded a few Adams boots and enjoy his music, but, I still have the Elliot Smith mixup in my brain. I've never seen Elliot Smith live and really am not that familiar with his music. Although I did hear about his demise last year. thanks for the correction.

Yeah, iwas gonna say, you saw a dead man!!! crazy...and hes got two Ts on the end of his name...Elliott....just feel like being picky (if you feel like doing the same, with my typing you got plenty to work with!)

Now I do as I please and lie through my teeth. Someone might get hurt but it won't be me. I should probably feel cheap but I just feel free and a little bit empty. No it isn't so hard to get close to me. There will be no arguments. We will always agree. And I will try and be kind when I ask you to leave. We will both take it easy. But if you stay too long inside my memory, I will trap you in a song tied to a melody and I will keep you there so you can't bother me.
