Grave of the Fireflies. Excellent anime and one of the saddest things I've seen.

Watched The Manson Family last night. Thought it was pretty good, kind of docu-style, surreal in places, a feast of images. Very bloody, gorey, explicit, nasty violence. Pretty shocking and disturbing. If it was making a point, it may have been about the way Manson became a fashion item, when people probably don't realise how awful the things he orchastrated were.
BTW, vilainde, Grave Of The Fireflies is one I've been hoping to pick up. Maybe when I have a have a few quid.

Saw The Corpse Bride yesterday, and I liked it. It dos'nt go for big laughs all the time, which is'nt to say it is'nt funny. It's really well done, beautiful and atmospheric. Kind of sad and moving too, in parts. Between this and Wallace And Gromit, I'd say stop motion animation has made a big comeback.
Later, watched The Howling at a friend's house. I saw it before, it's not bad. Some pretty good werewolf FX.

Hamburger themed post: Better Off Dead has a singing one in it I believe, that´s a great film. And in the Howling they spend 90 minutes fending off the big bad carnivorous werewolves and in the end the hero and heroine go into a restaurant and the closing credits run over a hamburger frying on the hotplate. I love Joe Dante, he´s so underrated.

On Monday night, I saw "The Omen." It was pretty hokey, I thought, but I felt I should see it because it's apparently the reason my name isn't Damon.

I saw that the other week for the first time. It was OK.
I saw most of Dirty Pretty Things last night, and was really enojoying it until the DVD decided to stutter continuously with about 20 minutes to go. Grrrrr.

Last night I had the stupidity of irremediably wasting 90 minutes of my life watching the steaming pile of shit called "The Hole", starring Thora Birch and Keira Knightley (who definitely gained the "worst actress ever" title at the occasion). It's about 4 college students who hide for a couple of days in a bunker to escape school and find the door closed at the time of coming out. Now, when you get to watch 4 people locked together during 90 minutes, you kinda expect some character development. Well, it didn't seem that obvious for the director who, wondering how he'd fill the movie once having removed all dialog, emotion or any interesting scene, decides to show us for the first half hour a story that DIDN'T happen (cause the girl telling it lied, duh), and then start all over again with the actual events. I thought the movie title referred to the bunker, and realized it actually is a reference to the scenario which is a gigantic plot hole. The worst part of it is that I stayed until the end of the movie. I'm turning into a fucking couch potato.

I saw "Rosemary's Baby," the other movie about Satan fathering a baby, earlier this week. I liked it better than "The Omen," but it was slow in parts.

I saw Festival Express about that Canadian train trip with the Band/Buddy Guy/Grateful Dead/Janis Joplin etc. It was pretty funny and interesting. Especially that big ass bottle of Canadian Club somebody took on board and Bob Weir says,"Man, you could see all the LSD gel caps floating in the bottom so I think there was some psychedelics on board." Classic! And who knew, Canadians beating the shit out of cops at the first gig cause they thought all the gigs should be free! |

9 Songs last night.
What a pile of shite.
Thank goodness there was loads of gratuitious sex to fill out the utterly non existent story line. Might have helped if I found either of the actors attractive too.

There was NO story line. Boy meets girl - they fuck a lot. Then she has a mood and then moves to America. End.
She was cute but not for me. He was repulsive and had no shoulders.

Well there was a storyline, just not one that interested you. Hardly complex, but I don't think the director wanted that.
I related to it more than any other film I have seen that concerns "relationships". So the director did something right. I guess it's a love or hate film.

I agree that the director probably didn't want a complex story line. It's just that I suppose after all the excitement about it, I expected a bit more from it than just the sex. It did have a wonderfully intimate feel to it. It's just that when it ended I was left with the feeling of "huh? that's it?" - though of course you can argue that that was the whole point of the movie. That at the end of a relationship that's exaclty the feeling you have when you're the one who is left behind.
Or maybe I should just shutup and watch The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou again since that's what I really wanted to do.
