that sucks, i was really looking forward to that. the local indie theater has had an impressive lineup lately, and i'm pretty sure that'll be there in a few weeks. now i'm debating whether it is worth my 8 bucks plus popcorn/soda.

damn you tony. damn you for making me doubt.

I saw :

Caché - Michael Haneke : great (Juliette Binoche and Daniel Auteuil are very good)

The Corpse Bride - Tim Burton : A good one. Technically perfect, the story is good and the score by Elfman is as good as usual.

Year Of The Dragon - Cimino : I really don't like the end, but I like the movie. I must admit that Mickey Rourke is great in this one.

The Deer Hunter - Cimino : great, what else could I say?

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978): Must have seen this lots of times now but first time all the way through since i was a kid. I never knew Donald Sutherland was the main character til now. Still creeps me out their freaky screams and great to see Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum in there too. Still havent seen the original but there's time.

Network (1976): This one was pretty interesting, winner of 4 oscars and some great performances. Recommend it, too tired to go over plot etc, check it out on IMDB. My fave quote "Why is it that a woman always thinks that the most savage thing she can say to a man is to impugn his cocksmanship."

That version of Body Snatchers is one of the best remakes ever. Creepy as fuck. I've never seen all of Network. Watched Deliverance and Lost Highway again at a friends house over the weekend. Two great movies.

I saw:

Brother - Kitano : the second time I see it, very good, but not one of my favourites.

Something Wild - Jonathan Demme : entertaining, but not a masterpiece.

Koroshi No Rakuin (Branded to Kill) - Seijun Suzuki :the second time too that I see it and still awesome.

Watched Sling Blade, the director's cut, tonight. A great, funny, moving movie with some brilliant performances. The only new scene I noticed was one where Frank goes to his ex-girlfriend's house with Karl.

I like the scene where Dwight Yoakam is jammin with his "band". Funny stuff.

I watched Life Aquatic by Wes Anderson last night. I didn't like it. I don't know what it is about this guys movies but they bug me. It's like he tries too hard to make some kind of artistic statement with them and they just fall flat on their asses (yes, movies have asses). I can appreciate their originality but...I don't know, maybe they just go right over my head.

Watched the first episode of "Weeds" on Showtime today, it was pretty good. I always got Mary Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins confused with one another and now they are in the same show together. It's a sign. Of what I have no idea.

I watched the first four episodes the other night - loving it so far - finally something decent on tv.

I loved Bottle Rocket (just the feel of it) and Rushmore. They filmed an alley scene from Bottle Rocket in the alley behind my old work, and we had to have our guys stop working when they would film.

Hana Bi, the Kitano one about a cop who becomes disabled and starts to paint. I like music in Japanese films, often it´s more understated with a less exploitative use of emotional cues than you find in European or American films.

Is it OK to post here movies I'd like to watch?

• New York Doll, about which NY Magazine said:

This documentary focuses not on the Doll you might expect—the still-thriving David Johansen—but rather the bassist for the legendary glam-punk band, Arthur “Killer” Kane. Director Greg Whiteley’s film picks up Kane in recent times, as a sweet-tempered recovered alcoholic working as a clerk in a Los Angeles Mormon library. In 2004, Kane—with his chalky voice and halting manner—was invited to reunite for one concert with the other two surviving New York Dolls, Johansen and guitarist Sylvain Sylvain. There are numerous pleasures: witnessing the shock of his Mormon friends when they discover the old alter ego of this mild, humble man; Kane’s trepidation at seeing Johansen, who he assumes will have no use for him; and the tears he sheds when Johansen embraces him as an old comrade. It’s that rare movie that prizes humility and modesty as ennobling virtues. Plus, it rocks.

and

• Paradise Now, about two fictional Palestinian suicide bombers.

Roman Coppolla film about an editor who is given the reigns to finish a sci-fi movie he's editing that he is really too good for. (Tony, have you seen this?) It was good, i enjoyed it a lot.

THE BLUES BROTHERS

Believe it or not, i had never seen this film up until now. Not too bad; but i still think that if Belushi was still alive he'd be less respected than Chevy Chase for his comedy - it doesn't really hold up.

THE ORDER: FROM CREMASTER 3

Recommended to me by a friend, this is a piece of a larger film, which is part 3/5 of a film series. But for some reason, only this piece is available on dvd. So fucking bizarre - i really can't tell if i liked it or not.

On Sunday night, I saw "House," which was pretty good, and had George Wendt and Richard Moll in it. I also watched a History Channel documentary on the Salem Witch Trials, which was interesting.

House, for some reason I saw that gem in the theater. I have no memory of it other than "Norm" was in it and it wasn't good. Did it have the 1980s required "hot babe" with a flash of bra/bikini?

"Shopgirl" the latest by Steve Martin, based on his novella by the same name. Claire Danes did a great job, I thought. I cried thru, oh, a quarter of this movie.
