In Good Company. It was good. Nothing terribly memorable but well done. Scarlet Johansen was beautiful and the soundtrack was good.
Dennis Quaid is become the established family man for movies with this movie and with Almost Heaven (a very good movie, I thought). |

The actress' name is Vivian Pickle, believe it or not. I love the line "Harold eat your beets." Just the way she says it.

Why they even tried to re-make that film is beyond me. Gene Wilder was perfect. |

I liked Johnny Depp's Wonka. Very different from Wilder's, which I also enjoyed thoroughly, but an interesting alternative take on the character. And I think the parts before and after the factory itself were better in the new version. They kind of rushed through the factory itself, though.
I saw "Red Eye" yesterday afternoon. It's not the kind of movie I generally watch (my girlfriend and I mostly saw it because we saw Wes Craven talk recently), but it held my interest all the way through, which is good.
At night, we watched "Ginger Snaps," which was interesting and disturbing.

I haven't seen the new Wonka. Or Corpse Bride, it looks like a continuation of TNBC. Was it that moving dayanara? |

there was definitely a Michael Jackson thing going on there. which was really wrong, in a right way.. one of the things i liked about that film (and the original) is that it's pretty demented, especially for a kids film |

Finally saw Lords Of Dogtown. I loved it. My fears of Dogtown and Z-Boys being sullied by it were completely unfounded. Visually it was pure candy for me and has restoked the burning desire to run away to California all over again.

Apparently he also enjoyed Wilder's Wonka thoroughly. Safely I hope.
Just watched A History of Violence. Some asshole at the Dallas Morning News gave it an "A" but it was more like a "B minus". Looked great, at least Maria Bello did, especially in the sex scenes, but they really fucked up the writing several times. Can someone not come in and edit a fucking screenplay effectively?? I mean really. It was not horrible, and was actually good for much of the movie, then they fucked it up in a few places and you are like "is that the best you can come up with?"

I just watched "Animal Factory". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0204137/ Produced by Steve Buscemi. It had a lot of he actors from "Tres Lounge" (which is one of my favorites) in it. These actors must be his friends and family. I know one of them is his brother. I was busy during one scene but I look up and this Antony guy is playing an inmate and singing on stage for the other prisoners. Good movie. It's hard to describe why but I liked it. It was interesting.

THE KINKS: ONE FOR THE ROAD
This was a pretty shitty concert film. It is totally out of sequence and only an hour long. Plus, Dave Davies was totally into his Spinal Tap era - shaking his ass in the camera's lens, doing that guitar solo while going down on your knees and lay on your calves, taking extended solos. Ray just jumps around a lot. They play almost exclusively the 'rock' songs, and "celluloid heroes" is the only song they play that could be considered a ballad or something other than straight ahead rock. The highlight, of course, is "victoria."

I watched "Spider Baby" last night. It was good in parts, but it was a little too slow-moving overall. Sid Haig was in it, but I didn't even recognize him. I guess he WAS a lot younger back then.
What I DIDN'T watch last night was The Simpsons. And now there won't be any new episodes until November. That sucks.

Last night I watched "In Praise of Older Women," which had very little to do with older women and everything to do with Catalunya during the Spanish civil war. Two thumbs up, except for the idea of Faye Dunaway as a sexual predator. Skeezy.

At the theater yesterday, I saw "The Baxter," Michael Showalter's movie. It wasn't laugh-out-loud funny, for the most part, but it was clever. I also found myself identifying to a certain extent with Showalter's character.
On the DVD player, I watched "Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers." It seemed more disjointed than the other movies in the series, with a lot of loose ends and undeveloped plot ideas. My girlfriend thinks that Donald Pleasence might have died while they were making it, hence leading to a somewhat sloppy final product.

I love this goddamn movie. Probably the best campy horror film I've ever seen. When the two sisters are trying to kill that annoying fat guy that looks like Hitler and he says,"Wait a minute now, there are proper procedures for doing this!" Priceless. |

Last night, I watched "In Search of Dracula," a documentary from the seventies narrated by Christopher Lee. It was kind of interesting, but the reenactments and on-screen images weren't very good.

Yesterday I saw Duma and March of the Penguins with my cousin. Duma made me wish I was a kid again. And March was pretty damn heart wrenching. |

Fierce Creatures. Not as good as Wanda, it lacked a good plot and Michael Palin was shamefully underused, but Kevin Cline's 2 roles and the hysterical ending made it worth watching.

Okay, where do I start? Apart from a load of films I watched while housesitting recently, I've watched a load of cheapo silly movies over at a friends house a lot in the last while:
Expect No Mercy-Hilariously bad martial arts virtual reality movie starring Tae Bo inventor Billy Blanks!!
Scarred City-With Stephen Baldwin, Chaz Palminteri and Tia Carrera! It'd be okay, if it wer'nt for the awful, illogical action sequences and poor attempts at comedy.
Talons Of The Eagle-Billy Blanks again, with Jalal Merhi from Expect No Mercy (I'm beginning to sound like Tarantino, here). Watchable kung-fu guff.
Sweepers-Dolph Lundgren is a mine-sweeper whose son is killed by a mine. Nuff said.
Tough And Deadly-Billy Blanks teams up with Roddy Piper! With hilarious results!
Other movies I watched:
I, Robot-Though this was so-so. I was'nt expecting much from it.
Blade: Trinity-A couple of good ideas, but overall annoying and stupid. It was like an advertisment for iPod at times. And there where bad attempts at tongue-in-cheekery from one of Blade's new sidekicks (the male one, not the iPod-loving Jessica Biel character), who seems to be a clone of Tyler Durden in scenes near the end where he's been beaten up topless. On the plus side, it did have Parker Posey as a vampire!
The Bourne Supremacy-Better than the original, and very stylish in a grim-European kind of way. Good stuff.
Van Helsing-Started off good, then turned into Hollywood crap with some dodgy effects. Well, it is a Stephen Sommers movie!
Nine Songs-Okay, I only watched this because it's the most sexually explicit movie in British film history-*chuckles* (some brief shots in it are basically hardcore porn), but it is kind of sad and beguiling. Lots of music preformances (that's why it's called Nine Songs!). The girl is really lovely, too. The scenes are played out naturally and ring through, but the guy's voiceover is a bit clunky and self-consciously pretentious at times.
Batman And Robin-Fuck. I had to see how bad it was, but I was still shocked. Like the TV series, but not funny.
Star Trek:Generations, First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis-Look, I did'nt watch them all at the same time, alright? I'm not even a big ST fan. Enjoyable, although I have to say, waht is up with the evil-Picard clone bad guy in Nemesis? More pathetic than Dr. Evil!!
And that's it for this round up, film fans!! My new book '2006 Movie And DVD Guide' will be available for pre-order through Amazon, soon!!
*PS-Oh yeah, also watched There's Something About Mary. It's not always an all-out gag fest, but there are some really funny moments ("I work with retards!"). Cameron Diaz looks great in it, too! |

I saw "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" a few nights ago. It wasn't what I was expecting, being a lot wackier than the original, but it was pretty good in its own way. Obviously not as good as the first one, though.

"El Método" - You'll hardly find a copy in your respective languages, I guess. Maybe the french.
Great plot, amazing characters, and some of the best actors from Spain and Argentina: Eduardo Noriega, Najwa Nimri, Eduard Fernandez, Ernesto Alterio, Carmelo Gómez, Adriana Ozores, Natalia Verbeke.
I enjoyed it a lot. One of the best movies I've seen this year. Ernesto Alterio is my secret gay crush
