I want to see Richard Linklater's new Phil K Dick adaptation, A Scanner Darkly. I haven't seen Waking Life but apparently they've made it to build on that, it's supposed to be halfmovie halfgraphicnovel. Its about a drug agent who narcs on himself or something.

Recently I feel like I'm having a streak of luck with the films I pick.
During the last ten days or so I finally took advantage of my flat-mate's DVD-collection and watched four of his films. They were as different as it gets, but all equally good.

'Buffalo 66'- weird, disturbing, funny, heartwarming. Loved it. Great cast.

'The Emperors New Groove' - funniest Disney animation film EVER!

'Any Given Sunday' - What a movie! Big scale on all accounts.

'The Way We Were' - this belongs in the cult-movies thread. I instantly fell in love with Barbara Streisand.

(The last two both feature James Woods as supporting actor. He is so good!)

Yesterday at a cinema I saw 'Crash' by Paul Haggis - wich I liked. A bit too fairy-taley and forced at times, when almost every character had to go through a change of his character/behaviour/believes in such a short period of time. But a very complex film with an excellent cast.

Tonight I will go out and see 'Sin City'. I love the comic series and am therefore exited and a bit anxious at the same time to see it coming to live on a screen. Until now no comicbook adaptation lived up to the the original, in my opinion. But I still have faith in Frank Miller.
The same mixed feelings I have for that 'V for Vendetta' adaptation, whose trailer I saw yesterday

Edited some spelling

I didn't know V had been adapted? It's all the rage now huh?

(I think sin city is a beautiful adaptation btw)

I was surprised, too.
With Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman in the leading roles. Wich is fine with me.
Only, from what I could see in the trailer, it seems to be quite an action-movie. And I don't associate V with action. Maybe a little...
Hah, I guess I just have to read it again. Cool, because it is one of my favourite comic books!

Millions - Cute kids, a few funny moments but preachy and a terrible ending.

Riding Giants - Straight documentary on big wave surfing. Frightening. Loved it.

Million Dollar Baby - It was quite good. After the many negative opinions I've heard on here it was a great surprise.

Saw The Passion Of The Christ earlier. Some may criticise it as propaganda, but it is quite affecting. It's beautifully filmed, too. I noticed on the cover that the BBFC rating is 18, the Irish censor rating is 15. I wonder is it becuse this is such a religious country, they felt the bloody violence was just a necessity of an important Christian film, or something! :D

Also watched American Beauty the other day. A brilliant, funny, moving film. I had seen the last 40 mons or so on TV before, which I regret, but this time I watched it all from the start!

Enduring Love - Ok film, I had a hard time understanding the main character's actions though.

Touching The Void - Mountaineering docu-drama. Excellent.

Yesterday I went to see Madagascar. It was'nt great, a couple of chuckles and excellent animation from the Dreamworks Animation guys. But it's a bit more aimed at kids than the Shrek movies.

I thought it was hillarious - how cool were the penguins and how funny were the monkeys?

Susperia by Dario Argento. Great film, the man can do no wrong in my opinion.

The Cat in the Hat(w/Mike Myers)had some really dazzling effects but was otherwise a steaming pile of shit.

I just watched The Insider. One of the best films I have seen in the last few years. In fact ever. Fine, fine acting throughout. Including possibly my favourite Pacino performance.

Homers, that most excellent movie is based on a true story, you know.

Not this story. I've shown this movie to my journalism classes. There's a lot in there
about ethics and truth and all that other elusive stuff.

Watched Supersize Me this week-funny/disturbing/for the most part well-done. Also watched Garden State-I was disappointed after hearing how great it was.

I need to see movies without hearing all the good buzz about them, or else many don't live up to my expectations.

It is creepy but I think for that kind of film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari still kind of scares the shit out me. My dad showed it to me when I was probably too young to watch that kind of stuff.

Has anyone seen "Bloodsucking Freaks"? I almost bought it on the advice of someone but was unsure so I didn't. It's supposed to be a fantastic gore fest.

I'm not sure why I'd been avoiding this thread in the past. Probably because I didn't watch very many movies back when it first started. Now I'm on Netflix, though, so I've seen a lot of them in the recent past.

The most recent film I saw was, oddly enough, "Devil's Playground," Kathryn talked about way back on the first page. I thought it was pretty good, although much calmer and less mean-spirited than I had expected. One thing that struck me about it was how easy it was for the Amish kids who ended up not joining the church to get jobs. I guess the people we saw do that weren't necessarily a random sample of the lapsed Amish population, though.

I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied.

I think about "Devil's Playground" from time to time. It's a compelling documentary.

Am embarrassed to admit that I not only just watched Wedding Crashers but I laughed myself silly. I may be developing a crush on Vince Vaugh, he's so funny.

I'm going to see the Wedding Crashers this week with my neighbor, I think Owen Wilson can be hilarious when he gets the right role i.e. Meet the Parents. And I've been told Christopher Walken plays Will Ferrell's dad in WC, that's gotta be funny.

I saw:

- Pidä Huivista Kiini, Tatjana / Aki Kaurismaki: very good and very funny, as usual. The actors are great too.

- El Crimen Ferpecto / Alex De La Iglesia: very funny too. I didn't expected a thing like that.

That Kaurismaki movie's great, cassandra. I remember seeing it at the cinema with the Waits/Iggy segment from Coffee & Cigarettes before. The funniest part of the evening was probably my parents' faces during the short.

This weekend's movies:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: I liked it. Not the best Burton movie but still pretty good, and he stays close to the book so I got these remembrances from childhood.
King Of New York: great movie. Walken is as great as ever, and I never really liked Laurence Fishburne but he's awesome here.

Yeah, the Kaurismaki was great. But I didn't like the Jarmusch except the shorts with Iggy and Tom Waits and the one with members of the Wu Tang and Bill Murray.

I also liked the Burton even if like you I think it's not it's best. The musical sequences are very good as the songs. The actors are great too in this one, especially the grand father, Charlie and Johnny Depp (as usual).

I watched Constantine last night. It was a bit confused I thought. Usual comic book adaption cheesiness at times too, though not as much as Hellboy.
