The obvious exception being The Big Lebowski, where everyone knows every line, and the world's a happier place for it.

How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Huell Howser dramatically 'planting' a Californian flag with some styrofoam on the bottom of it on one of the 5 corners of the state - in the water of Lake Tahoe. even the people in the boat with him looked eager to get it over with.

Two nights ago I watched Tipping the Velvet. A sweet little BBC production, based on a contemporary novel, it tells the rags-to-riches story of a 19th Century English girl.
Romantic, sweet, full of lesbian sex.

Was it really broadcast on UK TV, because it would never have aired in the prudish States.

I watched Napoleon Dynamite earlier. Very good. Not side splittingly funny but still amusing and well observed.

Last night I watched Look At Me/Comme Une Image. So-so French film about an obnoxious writer (oxymoron). Not a single character who wasn't annoying.

Hmm, I enjoyed Look At Me.

I watched Fear and Trembling last night. We should've gone for Batman instead.

It didn't bug you that all the characters were unlikable? (Except for the voice teacher, I suppose.) I did like how everybody who came into the male protagonist's sphere became
unhappy.

The film did well in showing how regular folk can become assholes when fame and money come their way. I liked the voice teacher for standing up against this in the end.

The neglected obese daughter didn't win me over at all and in the end I felt the decent young fella would've been beter off without her. She's not going to forget that other stupid, good looking boy overnight is she?

Perfectly put, Wilhelm. Exactly what I would have said if I were eloquent.

She annoyed me. Her actions (reactions, actually) were so predictable.

I saw War Of The Worlds earlier. Pretty good, terrific effects work, it kind of peters out later on, but then I suppose Spielberg was trying to avoid a cliched big alien showdown take on it. I Also saw Batman Begins again on friday!!

it's all gone pete tong was very book, in case you didn't see the thread i dedicated to the movie.

last night i watched sideways and the jacket.

sideways: compelling characters, great acting, but somewhat slowgoing and not as humourous as it could have been without throwing the "art" factor out the window.

the jacket: what a good movie, some butterfly effecting going on, creepy claustrophobia scenes, kiera knightly, good acting by adrian brody and kris kristofferson. highly recommended, two thumbs up.

Reading reviews online, people really seem to either love to hate this movie.

I watched Batman Begins last Saturday. What the hell is wrong with you people? This is like the worst movie ever. Hell, even Batman & Robin was better than this one. I hated every bit of it.

He's very good, actually. It was his birthday yesterday (Born On The 3rd Of July, heh heh!), by the way. I think he's a good actor, whether or not he's into all that L.Ron Hubbard malarky! :)

I saw War Of The Worlds today. It's pretty good. Some amazing scenes in it. The ending is a bit of a cop-out though. I guess films like that are difficult to end though. Surely there can only ever be one outcome? Invasion Of The Body Snatchers got it right I think.
