the documentary has so much inportant information that the ficiton film glosses over. i know they were focusing on the "drama" part of it, but for the uninformed average movie-goer, they could have made some things more clear i thought..
BLT, did you catch all the cameos of the original Z-boys? |

Hotel Rwanda - I thought this was a good movie in the sense that enlightened me to what was (is) going on down there. Very sad. The only problem I had with it was I never really got beyond the feeling that it was a movie depicting real events. I never felt that it was really happening at any point. There were many scenes where you'd see these people running by and they were so obviously instructed not to look at the camera. They would have their eyes directed completely away from the direction they were heading. It looked very unnatural. Of course most of these people are not actors so... It must have been a difficult film to direct.

Oh, and spiderman 2. Decent. A little too much cgi though. And goofy one liners. I started to get that same bad feeling I got with those first Batman movies. I think these movies would do better if they ditched the whole comic book feel they are going for. It's a movie, not a comic book.

I watched Ocean's 12 last night. I thought it was pretty good, very similar to the first one. Catherine Zeta Jones was looking fine. Much better than Julia Roberts.

No one in that movie looked better than Brad Pitt. That's the best he's looked, Ocean's 12.

I didn't dig Ocean's 12 too much. A lot of big stars standing around going "hee! we're all in this movie, and we're all FAB!". I saw Closer, which I thought was great, and made me really respect Clive Owen and Jude Law. And Sideways was great as well, I really enjoyed that.

It was good but not as good as everyone went on about. Same with Closer.
Oh and Mike2, I think you could say that of Ocean's 11 too. I still really enjoyed them both. As far as I'm concerned Brad Pitt can stand around going "Hee! I'm in this movie, and I'm FAB!" all he likes.

We watched Anchorman last night. I loved it. Some scenes are comedy gold and Steve Carell is great (he's so funny in fight scene). I'm looking forward to watching it with the commentary, which I hear has number of bits with Andy Richter in it.
Reading reviews online, people really seem to either love to hate this movie. |

I'll second that, as I said before I was pleasantly surprized. Sadly, the Region 2 DVD is missing some cool extra stuff that the Region 1 has, apparently.
I have to admit, I'm looking forward to War Of The Worlds. With Sith and Batman, the summer blockbuster season has already begun! There's nowt wrong with a good blockbuster. |

currently watching 'word wars' it's a documentary about a scrabble tournament and its competetitors. no shit.
it's sad, really, but so funny as well. reminds me of that 'tribute:a rockumentary' that i saw on sundance or ifc....
a man just sung 'across the universe' in honor of scrabble, including piano accompaniment, due to the song's opening verse "Words are flying out like endless rain into a paper cup They slither while they pass They slip away across the universe Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting thorough my open mind Possessing and caressing me" good thing that song's so fucking amazing or else this might have ruined it for me :) |

I was in the National Scrabble Association http://www.scrabble-assoc.com/ for 1 year, mainly to be able to Buy the OWL (offical word list)
I was far more successful in US Ches federation. I actually placed 2nd in the Virginia Open. Fun shit. I don't have the energy to compete anymore. It tuns from fun to work rapidly. But the money is decent if you win or place high most of the time.

Nah, haven't seen the movie.
I've read the book Word Freak which is okay but written in a rather informal manner. Sounds kinda highscool.
It's been a couple years since I've actually played a game. Same with Chess. I find it excrutiating to play a game because I have to win, and it requires utter concentration.
I can't remember much. 92? 2 letter words. a little over 1000 3 letter words and another 1000 hooks on the 3 letter words at least in those words. 2 U-less q letter words, 20 vowel dumps, blah fuckin blah
The thing with competitive Scrabble, no one gives a fuck about definitions unless they can help you remember the words.
And the main objective is to use special word scores. And so much depends on the draw from the bag. It is very possible for a novice to beat an expert depending on the draws. Not at all the case with Chess.
I do love Scrabble, but I hate playing it with other people anymore. I don't know, that's a little harsh. I like playing with people halfway competent who want to play for Fun and Fun only.

Really, they're jacked up like ball players. I never thought of that. They better start drug testing those spelling bee kids. |

smart drugs like ginko, vitamin b's just any supplement thought to enhance brain function, similar to aging 'remedies' this one guy pulled out a shoebox full of the stuff and claimed he was 'low on them' at the moment. "The thing with competitive Scrabble, no one gives a fuck about definitions unless they can help you remember the words."
TOTALLY I could not believe the words they were using. They made a comment that people who are mathematically inclined score higher than english majors and I think that's why. It has nothing to do with the words as we think of words.

It depends on which movie you see first. 'The House of flying daggers' was the first movie in this genre I ever saw. I still like it better than 'Hero', or 'Crouching tiger, hidden dragon' I found 'Hero' quite boring compared to 'The House of flying daggers'
It's especially the echo dance scene that does it for me. As well as the bamboo fighting scene. Pure beauty
The echo dance scene is one of the most memorable movie scenes I've ever seen.
The showerscene from 'Psycho' is the other one

I couldn't think of any other one.
Still can't
And yes, I am really hard to impress I also forget a lot about movies, a process that already starts minutes after I've seen it. I only remember some stills or scenes, or completely ban it from my memory.
It's weird

the photography in FLYING DAGGERS is incredible. i liked it better than HERO too.

My ex just saw War of the Worlds. She said not much plot, has amazing effects, and has some genuinely creepy scenes. Seemed pretty intense. Her reaction kind of reminded me of what I felt like as I parked my car at night and walked to my friend's front door past some trees just after watching Signs.
