Al Massir, a French/Egyptian film that won something at Cannes in '97. About a
12th Century Andalusian philosopher. Hokey, like many Arab films, but
relevant, as it deals with the ongoing fight for free speech and rationalism.

Now, I need to watch Fight Club for the 20th time.

Saw Kinsey. I liked it.

Dispicable, perhaps. But that made him sexy.

30 Days, the new series on FX by Morgan "Super Size Me" Spurlock.

He and his girlfriend moved to Columbus Ohio and lived for thirty days on minimum wage. It got slightly preachy at times in a socialist kinda way, but it was a good dose of reality.

This looks like a promising series.

Sin City. I was quite disappointed. I like how they filmed it but the scenario sucked. Plus I generally hate being shown gratuitous torture.

The American Film Institute issued a list of best movies of all time.

I wanted to see more older movies (the only old movies I've seen are from Chaplin or Hitchcock) , so I started downloading their top five:

1. CITIZEN KANE (1941)

2. CASABLANCA (1942)

3. THE GODFATHER (1972)

4. GONE WITH THE WIND (1939)

5. LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962)

I started with watching Casablanca, and I love it!
It's black and white, but it doesn't feel like a movie from 1942
The camera work is great, the acting is superb, as well as the soundtrack

Probably posted before in this thread, but did anyone watch some old movies lately and really enjoyed them?

I had a Ewan McGregore (sp?) weekend, not on purpose. Saturday night was Big Fish which I though was interesting but ultimately not very good. Today was a matinee of Star Wars which had moments I guess, but overall I thought it was poor. Maybe even the worst of the 6. I still have to think about it.

CITIZEN KANE is always on the top of best film lists for many good reasons .. it was technically innovative for the time, the storytelling is superb, and it's amazing how much Orson Wells did himself (almost everything).. but i still think it's kind of a boring film..

TOUCH OF EVIL is a way more interesting Orson Wells film.

if you want a kick ass Film Noir film double feature, rent:

I forgot that I watched White Noise last Thursday night (on my own with the lights off as you always should with horror) and boy did I shit my kecks! Not a great film but some of the biggest jump out of your skin moments ever. I nearly had a heart attack.

i saw LORDS OF DOGTOWN over the weekend. i enjoyed it quite a bit, but i don't know how i'd feel about it if i wasn't into skateboarding.. i thought some of the writing/dialog was pretty bad but i loved it anyway because, well, i'd like almost any skateboarding movie..

i think the documentary is still a better film though
