Dead Man is slow, but pretty good. It's cool that Robert Mitchum makes an apperance. |

The Station Agent.
Wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. Loved the character of Joe (in fact want to be Joe).

Last Days: boring, caricatured, and a bad movie for many reasons, anyway I still love Elephant

I just watched Revenge of the Sith. I think this film is made only for Star Wars fans. But a few flaws appart... what a film! |

I watched Sideways, Igby Goes Down, and Life aquatic again yesterday and the day before. All three were much enjoyed.

I just watched the Life Aquatic a couple of days ago. I really loved it. It sorta reminded me of Hal Hartly's style of filming. Have you seen any of his movies? If not, I would recommend "Simple Men." Masterpiece! |

Really? I enjoyed. I realized, the whole time, that it was a pretty light movie; no real depth to it, so I think that helped loosen me up. I thought there were some great lines:
Igby: Oliver is majoring in neo-fascism at Colombia. Oliver: Economics. Igby: Semantics.
D.H. Banes: I believe, umm, that certain people in life are meant to fall by the wayside; to serve as warnings to the rest of us; signs posts along the way. Igby: To where? D.H. Banes: Success. Oliver: Our father would be a 'slippery when schizophrenic' sign, for instance... [pause] Oliver: ... along the highway of life.

I watched The Usual Suspects for the first time in a few years. That last scene still gives me chills.

i watched ENRON with my dad today.. (who's a becoming something of a political activist in his old age)..
pretty frightening stuff. the most frightening thing to me is how long it took them to figure it all out, and how easy it would be (and probably is) for huge corporations to successfully fuck people out of billions and billions of dollars.. |

sorry, i couldn't resist..
the movie: if you're a fan you'll love it. it's actually a bit older. from 98 when MOON SAFARI came out. the film documents thier very first tour, London Paris and New York. mostly behind the scenes stuff, and live footage, but put together in an artistic fashion. also, you get to know the guys a little bit.
and it's got 4 of their excellent music videos.
i think i'm going to start an AIR thread soon.. to prove to the Frenchies that i actually don't dislike France but quite the contrary.. |

Thank you - (I've just recovered from the biggest blushing fit ever) and please start an Air thread - Moon Safari blew me away when I first heard it, so I'll hunt that one down.

I watched Hero and Open Water earlier(well, yesterday at this stage!). Hero was beautiful and rather toughing in places, incredible cinematography. I want to see House Of Flying Daggers. Open Water(that 'Jaws meets Blair Witch' film!!)was pretty good, the shocks kind of come towards the end. I was looking at Bubba Ho-Tep, I Heart Huckerbees and Sideways in the video shop, maybe I'll check those out soon. Team America's not out yet, I missed it in the cinema but it looks pretty funny. So many films to catch up on!! |

I am on a role at the moment. I just saw Garden State and again, what a fantastic film. Beautiful script.
I want to meet someone like that. Why isn't life like the movies?
Good to hear The Shins in there too.

Did'nt he film that on a little digital camera for next to nothing? I read about it a while ago. And it's a kind of home movie documentary thing? |

it's actually footage from the span of his whole life.. super 8 footage, old video camera stuff, etc.. up to the present. this kid (well, he's not a kid now) used to film himself and his family from a very young age.. it's about his VERY troubled life, and fucked-up dysfunctional family.. it's very sad, but it's also very moving.. and inspiring.
the way he put it all together though, edited it etc.. shows that he's a natural filmmaker.. it's truly a work of art.
i'm just amazed that he could not only have survived and preservered through the fucked up situation he was in, but also manage to document it and create something so artistic out of it.
i hope he goes on to make more films |

I agree that Hairdresser's Husband is extremely good. My favourite Leconte film is Monsieur Hire, some truly amazing scenes like the "seduction" next to the boxing ring. Anyone saw his latest film The Man On The Train? It was pretty good as well.

I just watched the Hitchhikers Guide. It was okay. Not excellent, but better than what I expected. Although I think that if I didn't read the books I'd probably be a bit confused about the story. Do you think they'll make sequels? |

Yesterday I watched BRINGING UP BABY, starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. It was a bit too long, as if they didn't know how to end the movie, but very enjoyable and funny nonetheless. I must watch more Hepburn movies.

I watched Napoleon Dynamite last night. The opening credits were genius - the rest of the movie had moments for me but hardly blew me away. My mind was elsewhere, so that probably didn't help matters, but I think it was that I'm still so taken with Motorcycle Diaries that I couldn't help but compare movies even though it's utterly ridiculous to do so.
