Sorry, yeah it was OK, not my favourite Japanese film. It was worth it for the torture scene alone though. Makes Reservoir Dogs look like The Sound Of Music.

i finished watching the first season of TWIN PEAKS last night. sooooooooooooo fucking good. i don't know why i wasn't into it when it was on. i think i usually had stuff to do on Friday nights at that age.

but man, i can't believe this was even on tv. tv doesn't deserve anything this good. or, i should say, it would be nice if some tv could be a fraction as good

I watched The Motorcycle Diaries tonight. This is beautiful, really nicely shot in some stunning locations, and excellent performances from the two leads. Pretty thought-provoking too. Very interesting to see what is in effect a biopic, which explains motives rather than just telling a straightforward story.

it's one of the most intense movies i've ever experienced in a theatre. EVERYONE in the theatre was freaking out during that scene and just going "ooohh my gooodd!"

(and of course, some walk outs)

Tonight I went to a screening of MYSTERIOUS SKIN with novel author Scott Heim and actor Joseph Gordon Levitt. Before the film was shown, I was hanging out in front of the theater with a friend, and he pointed out Scott Heim (the author of the novel the film was based on) and we approached him and said hi. He was all by himself and seemed really pleased to see a couple of kids at his film. He told us that he was afraid that because of the NR rating not many kids would show up. After about five minutes of conversation, Joseph Gordon Levitt showed up, and we were introduced. He seemed like a very nice guy, very down to earth.

The film was really good, although I think I prefered the book. Afterwards there was a Q&A which was a bit awkward, just because not many questions were asked. I had a really good time anyway.

I have that movie on DVD, but I didn't watched it already, but it's funny because my husband had the same reaction. I could only listen to him, while watching that scene that you're talking about, saying "ooohh my gooodd!". So, with that impression, I thought it was better for me to just don't even try to watch it.

And for a sunday afternoon I'll just watch 'Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi', it's also japonese, but much softer. I've seen it already, but you know how kids are, they don't mind seeing it a couple of times.

Itchi The Killer is on my Amazon list, Ju-on is fantastic, Dark water is excellent also.

Try the original The Grudge too, and Versus.

I watched Garden State. Not as great as I thought but pleasant nonetheless. Zach Braff is a great actor and he definitely has potential as a director.

i didn't care for ICHI THE KILLER as much. the violence level is almost too much in that. ok, not almost..

but it's still interesting

his DEAD OR ALIVE series is worth watching.. he's made so many films that i need to see.

i think he's amazing..

Oooh, I really wanna watch that. Maybe later this week.

Couple of nights ago I watched "The Interpreter," which
was surprisingly OK. I expected it to suck. Observations:
Sean Penn's looking a lot like Jake LaMotta these days.
Nicole Kidman's so purdy.

Yesterday I watched EPISODE I. It was actually better than what I remembered, even though I watched on a very small TV with a crappy image.

i didn't care for DOLLS, though i wanted to like it. it had some great photography, and a few touching moments.. but it was just too slow for me. i couldn't get into it.

i'm not against slow movies either, but this one just didn't do it for me

I think the first third of Dolls is as brilliant as the rest of the film is dull and boring.
Maybe you will like Zatoichi more (you can't deny that Kitano is one of the best director around these days.)

i thought you were the one who liked DOLLS holiday son. i like Kitano.. and i was interested in seeing a film of his that takes a radical new direction.. but MAN, it was just tooooooo fucking slow. hardly anything happens.

that scene when they're in the car and she's blowing on that toy pipe thing.. that was painful

We can all agree that BAD LIEUTENANT is excellent!

It's with some fear that I say that I just watched
"I heart Huckabees" and thought it was .... OK.
Jeez, frickin' Frank called it his favorite movie
of the year, everybody I know who's seen it
loves it, and I thought it was .... OK.

Phew! We're a club of two, apparently.

Now, Sir Rock, do you not agree that The Bad Lieutenant
is cinema at its best?

(memo to self: email the Sir, warning him that he
is probably too young and tender to watch such
a trashy, violent movie)

tonight i watched Wong Kar Wai's 2046. amazing.. a little too long, but such a beautiful film (like all his films). it's kind BLADE RUNNER meets LOLITA, in China.

his films are truly works of art

also, Ziyi Zhang is in it, for you Ziyi Zhang fans

(yes please)
