I found Ghost Dog amazing.
This week-end I watched: - REPO MAN: not sure what to think of it. I think I would've enjoyed it more if I had been as high as the guy who directed it. The soundtrack was really cool though. - THE MUMMY: standard but pretty funny flick. I thought it was more violent and less funny, but it was ok.

was that phil jarmusch or ned jarmusch? |

i always think of repo-man whenever i see pulp-fiction, you know when vincent vega opens the briefcase, it's just like when the trunk is opened in repo-man.

Jim Jarmusch ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000464/ ). Vilainde and Floop, how would you rank Ghost Dog beside his other work? I'm not saying I didn't like it, I'm just saying that it wasn't my favorite of his, and was disappointed by this. I've only seen three of his films, and rank them as:
1. Dead Man 2. Coffee and Cigs 3. Ghost Dog

that's because both of those films pay tribute to this film (the most hardcore film noirs of all time)
http://www.filmmonthly.com/Noir/Articles/KissMeDeadly/KissMeDeadly.html
Perhaps the most compelling fact of Kiss Me Deadly is that this is not the last we see of the great whatzit. A number of films that followed (notably Repo Man in 1984 and Pulp Fiction in 1994) use disarmingly similar objects as their pivotal motifs. Certainly, such films owe much to the mystifying whatzit's original appearance in 1955's Kiss Me Deadly. |

you really need to rent his earlier stuff.. (well, all of his stuff)..
believe it or not, i think GHOST DOG is my favorite (though that's a tough call)
i'm going to say:
1. GHOST DOG 2. DOWN BY LAW 3. MYSTERY TRAIN 4. DEAD MAN 5. NIGHT ON EARTH 6. STRANGER THAN PARADISE
i still haven't seen COFFEE AND CIGS. heard mixed things about it.
his current project has Bill Murray in it, which is always promising for any movie

Hmm. You make a tempting argument, But I'll have to decline. I'll be needing that money as soon as I'm old enough to put my folks in a home and take it as my own.

I've seen very few Jarmusch movies for some reason. My top would be: 1) Ghost Dog, 2) Down By Law. Both are excellent though.
Yesterday I watched Raiders Of The Lost Ark. It wasn't as great as I remembered. Have I grown old?

I feel like I never saw all of Raiders, maybe when I was very young. I used to love watching Temple Of Doom, taped off the telly, but it is actually a bit crappy(then again, you can't beat that classic line, "Ah, monkey brains!" I really enjoyed The Last Crusade, hav'nt seen that in a long time either. The DVD boxset apparently still contains the cut version of TOD, maybe that's just the UK version? |

sir rock.. i actually watched COFFEE AND CIGARETTES last night (inspired by this jarmusch discussion)..
i hate to say, i didn't think much of it. the IGGY and TOM WAITS segment was the best by far. i also liked the Cate Blanchett one (did you know her cousin was her too?).. and the Steve Coogan Alfred Molina one was great too. but there were some serious duds..
i enjoyed it, but don't think it ranks up there with his other films |

i agree tony, coffee and cigarettes had some great moments, but also some boring parts. but i think the great parts outweighed the boring parts. especially the aforementioned iggy/waits and coogan/molina segments.

i wish the whole thing would have beeen waits and iggy.
i liked the idea, and really i like anything jarmusch does.. but i don't think it really succeeds at being a good movie as a whole. it's more just "cool" to have the people in it who are in it.. but i didn't think the writing was that great. WAKING LIFE is everything this movie tries to be and more

Shine man, no need to apologize. I'm just dense.
Sorry you didn't enjoy C&C that much Floop. I agree with the aformentioned picks. I also really liked Buscemi's character, and Bill Murray's. I thought the Blanchett bit was a little weak. I think my favorite was also Iggy and Tom, but I thought the last bit, was a close second.

Saw The Amityville Horror remake last night. While it's probably better than the original, and has a couple of good scares, it soon runs out of steam and just goes(unconvincingly)through the motions. |

"Closer," kind of good. Clive Owen, I think is his name, played a formidable, sexy character. Julia Roberts can be so annoying even when she has an amazing haircut.

First time I ever saw a short stripper but then again I don't know much about strippers.
Carl, you will be glad to know that Tre and I are making sure that Clive Owen or whatever his name is gets his photo in the Pictures of Beautiful Men thread.

this week i watched:
DiG! - documentary about rival/friend bands the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Fascinating examination of ethics/creativity/insanity. VERY highly recommended
Sleep With Me - Piece of shit. Eric Stolz should have know better. Only 3 good parts:
1) Dean Cameron (of Summer School and Men at Work fame) has a good role, and i'm glad he's still working. 2) Quentin Tarrantino has a HILLARIOUS cameo in a party scene where he is a nerdy guy (real stretch) who no one wants to talk to at a party, but he finally corners someone and they go on a long diatribe about Top Gun, and how it is really about 'the battle of being gay.' Very very funny 3) Parker Posey takes her top off.

I finally saw Sideways last night. Good movie. I liked how realistic their friendship was. Two very different guys who are tight friends and all just because they were freshmen roommates. If they meet at work they would never be close friends and certainly wouldn't put up with each other's shit, but because of their history they do.
Plus, I like the pounding Solvang took. That place sucks. |

Good biking up Solvang way, though.
But yeah, a good film, especially thanks to their relationship. I love how the easygoing, laidback guy was morally corrupt and stayed that way while the fetal-position-assuming neurotic actually tried to work through his shit.
