I actually liked cube, I thought it was very funny and I thought saw was terrible, much much worse than cube, I didn't know there was a sequel either, I might look for that

Very funny? I think that just about confirms my thoughts that nobody should ever trust your opinion on films.

I've watched Bowling for Columbine, and I still don't know what to say, it's so scary! For me it's like another reality.

Mike, you really thought that Bale was a great Patrick Bateman? If anything, I'd have preferred to see Leo attack the role. I didn't think that Bale had the attitude, or the manliness to play Bateman. He just seemed kind of pathetic througout the whole ordeal; I thought maybe he was holding back. Perhaps it was just the limits of film though, I didn't find the film graphic enough, and I suppose that I might unjustly blam Christian Bale for that.

I found the character of Bateman to be rather pathetic so he got it spot on for me.

i blame Mary Harron, the director. i don't think she was the right person to adapt and direct that novel. imagine if David Fincher had done it..

so i went to see PALINDROME with mixed feelings about Todd Solondz, and left feeling the same way. which i think is partially what he's going for. i really don't know how to feel about his films.. part of me respects the fact that they provoke a reaction, and get people thinking and talking; that's always a positive thing. but then the other part of me thinks he's just this bitter, negative little guy who just likes to fuck with people, for the sake of fucking with them.
it was fascinating hearing him speak, and seeing the audience (some of them a little angry) reaction to his film. like his films, in person he doesn't give any clear cut answers. he's very articulate and excellent at avoiding direct questions. he also has the strangest accent and stutter.. i can't explain it any other way than, he sounds like the scientist guy on the Simpson's. you know the one?
anyway, i haven't talked about the film... maybe when people see it we can discuss it.

Perhaps, although this was a book that was always going to be heavily cut for the film adaption, so whoever did it had one hand tied behind their back.

it depends on who does it, and how they do it. you don't have to show everything on screen to be effective.

Tre, true. It would have been interesting to see how they could have gotten the rat scene included. And perhaps the stabbing of the 5 year old boy.

over the weekend i watched THE AMERICAN ASTRONAUT, written and directed by leaad singer of San Francisco based The Billy Nayer Show..
one of the weirdest films i've seen in a long time. very funny and inventive. i guarantee you you haven't seen a film quite like this (which is saying something).. also, excellent black and white cinematography..

Cube has its place in my top 10 worst films ever list... Thanks for reminding me of this joke of a movie.
American Psycho was OK I guess. Not bad but obviously nothing to compare with the book. As floop said, maybe Harron was not the right director (but Fincher? Give me a break!). Michael Mann could've done something better for instance.

I watched Fausto 5.0 with Los Fura del Baus, what a movie, so weird but so good. Maybe nobody knows about this but it is excellent, and the soundtrack too.

i will give you a break for that statement!
i think Fincher would have been great. i can think of others too.. but i think a book like that (like any good film) should be very visual. which he is
how about Darren Aronofsky? happy?
(or Todd Haynes? i think he would be suited to Ellis in a weird way)

Haven't seen anything by Aronovsky, and the only Haynes movie I know is Far From Heaven which is about the furthest you could think from American Psycho. I don't know much about movies actually. What about Takashi Miike? I bet the rat scene would've been in the movie.

Takeshi Miike would be perfect actually. but then it would have to be "JAPANESE PSYCHO," which most of his movies are anyway

the black and white cinematography in the short 'mon amour mon parapluie' was amazing. if you get a chance have a looksee. other than that there wasn't much to it.

how about paul t. anderson for american psycho, he always pushes characters and is very visual.

i'm not really familiar with fincher's work, but i think michael mann (heat, collateral, insider) would have dragged it out a little made it less ambiguous. i personally liked the ambiguity(what's real, what's not), but felt the film needed more, i dunno, maybe it was the cast....

i agree wtih shiney. it doesn't really seem up Michael Mann's alley. he's a good director, for what he does. but look at what he does.
it would be interesting to see Paul Thomas Anderson do something more horror-esque .. i think he could do almost anything. that guy is probably in top 3 favorite directors

Yesterday I watched Peau D'Ane (Donkey Skin), a French musical from the 70s starring Catherine Deneuve. Crazy stuff. A fairy tale full of anachronisms, silly songs, giant stuffed wild cats, princesses and helicopters. On Sunday they're showing The Princess Bride, which I may watch again for the 59th time.
