i went to "ice princess" with my daughter on friday and wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, i did however like the trailer for herbie-fully loaded, some cool songs in the trailer and a funny moment when herbie sees a new beetle and lindsay lohan says "cut it out herb, she's way too young for you". made me chuckle.

Last night I watch Surfing Giants. I'll probably watch it again tonight.

I love Stacey Peralta's films - so romantic, so evocative, always remind me to live more - (they even make me cry when I'm feeling particularly otherwise). The California thing is worse than it's been since Floop taunted me last and now I need to go to Hawaii too.

The fact that it was full of gorgeous men (I have a weakness for that whole surfer thing) is incidental.

yesterday i watched both CRUMB and THE TRIPLETTES OF BELLEVILLE.

i liked crumb a lot, even though it was quite depressing in parts (especially his family and his admisison to never having really loved a woman). i love his artwork, so i'm sure that made me appreciate it even more.

the triplettes of belleville was quite impressive as it is an almost 100% dialouge free film, but it doesn't suffer a bit. brilliant visual storytelling.

i liked RIDING GIANTS too. talk about a fantasy life... all that stuff with them in Hawaii, living off the land and surfing every day.. not too shabby.

looks like Stacy Peralta is venturing in to fiction territory

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0426492/

i love Terry Zwygoff, but i didn't care for crumb. mostly becasue i didn't care for crumb, the guy. don't really like his artwork, and didn't care for him, as a person. it was interesting.

i think the film should have been about his insane brother. he was more interesting to me.

Quite honestly what more could you want? It appears to be the perfect life.

The only thing that concerns me with him moving into fiction, or that movie in particular is that it has Sean Penn in it.

Today I watched a horror movie in my kitchen, I had to slice a chicken and I had to cut the head off...well, I just couldn't do it, I had to ask my husband to do that for me. And when I thought that it was finished and I started the dessert I opened an egg, and i think that it was some blood in it...disgusting!
(I'll never invite meat eaters to have lunch at my house again)

I'm about to watch the friday night project with Jimmy Carr in it who is actually a really ugly man really, big shiny moon head, but strangely compelling, although he mentioned his girlfriend last week so it won't ever be the same again, I might jack it off and watch some family guy instead hehe

I just got through American Psycho. I was pretty disappointed with the film, mostly on the part of Christian Bale. Not my personal interpretation of Patrick Bateman at all. Although I suppose the film was a bit graphic, it had nowhere the same effect that the novel did. I think one of its biggest flaws was its inability to really analyze Bateman's character. In the novel, I sympathized with him; at times his actions seemed rational, or at the very least understandable. In the film, he just sort of came of as a nut. I still enjoyed the movie, but came out sort of angry.

I hav'nt read the book, but I kind of understand what your saying, although I thought the film was pretty good. The ending is kind of ambiguous. It's quite funny in places.

the book is in a strange way even funnier than the film, I used to know a few people who would give me the whole "oh I'm so well read speel" and then dismiss american psycho in a very over dramatic "it made me want to be sick, there's no art in that novel, it's a mindless excuse for gratuity" sort of a way, which is very stupid (these people raved about naked lunch which imo is worse for what they're claiming than american psycho) because whilst it is very graphic and sometimes the violence appears on the surface to be quite mindless it's not really. The book is about what he wears and listens to as much as what he does, it's a funny commentary on eighties yuppiedom with this whole psycho aspect scattered into it as well, I didn't rate the film either to be honest with you sir rock I was really disappointed.

Naked Lunch was on TV recently, it has'nt been on in years. I've never read any Willam Borroughs books, but I've leafed through them-he musta been high as a kite, 24 hours a day! What about Chuck Palaniuk-anyone rate Fight Club next to the book?

isn't the naked lunch film supposed to be quite autobiographical? I think I saw it once but it was one of those late night I haven't slept for a couple of days viewings and I watched the illustrated man film straight after so there is a fair chance I'm mixing the two.

there is quite a lot from his life in the book (and film); i guess you could consider it a surreal, drug-induced autobiography. (he lived in Tangier and did, in real life, accidentally kill his wife doing the "William Tell" trick)

brett easton ellis - i've actually never read AMERICAN PSYCHO but i'm a big fan of GLAMOURAMA. i think he's an incredible writer.

i didn't care for AMERICAN PSYCHO either but i haven't read the novel so i can't compare. apparently Roger Avery is going to do GLAMOURAMA. i wish someone else would do it (he already had his chance).

sir rock - saw the film. stayed for the q&a. i'll give you my thoughts when i'm less fried.

American Psycho (the film) gets better with each viewing I find. I think that the comedy from the book makes it onto the screen through Bale's amazing performance. That is EXACTLY how I interpreted Patrick Bateman, SirRock. Perhaps you need to read the book again, or perhaps it will be too late now 'cos your thoughts will drift to the film you have now seen.

I agree that the book is more enjoyable (but then they usually are) but I really think the film's real plus point is Bale's performance. I am so glad that Di Caprio didn't take the part. Pussy.

I just watched TAI GUK GI.
I thought it was really good. A little sappy in parts but the level of violence makes up for it... Hehe, actually its neat to see a war movie where the americans aren't really in it. Its a Korean war movie. And don't watch it with the English dubovers, no good.

Cube. Another film that failed to live up to it's potential. The acting was poor, the dialogue was poor and it's a shame 'cos the idea was really good. It reminded me of SAW in it's idea, but it doesn't come close to it in the end.

I have just found out on IDMB that there is a sequel and a prequel that have since been made, so I will have to check them out to see if they realise it's potential any more.
