I just watched Snatch. Good film, I liked it. Very similar in many ways to Lock Stock... though, but hey, if you liked that you've a safe bet here.
Another one alongside Twelve Monkeys where Brad Pitt is good for the role he plays, rather than just as a pretty face.
Vinnie Jones also continues to surprise me - typecast he may be, but he was good in this movie.

You mean apart from the fact that Howard Hughes produced Scarface and directed the other two and that the first half of the aviator is about those films?

I just saw Shaun of The Dead. Good movie! I enjoyed it very much. For a Zombie flick it was very funny.
Much funnier than that shitty Anchorman movie Monkey loves so much.

I just watched Evil Dead 2.
I think I prefer the first still, just about, but this movie was a riot. I like that there were no artistic pretensions to try and recreate the low budget first film, but instead they just piled in more of everything. More gore, more humour, more blood, everything.

Favourite part - Ash cuts his hand off, sticks it under a bucket and puts a pile of books on top to keep it in. Top of the pile: Farewell To Arms.
Genius.

Bad Education, Almodovar's latest film. The film didn't involve me as much as his previous two films, All about my mother and Talk to her but visually it was excellent. Anyone else seen it? What did you think?

I watched Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless last mind last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of Charlie Kaufmann's writing, and I think this is the first of his films I've seen where the cinematography and visual concept match up perfectly with the script. I particularly liked the juxtapositions of memories into each other, for example the train through the bookshop, and while it seemed all over the place in terms of a linear story, it made sense perfectly.
I thought Jim Carrey was superb - its a relief when he plays a character not related to his own personality, and when he does (see also, Truman Show), you can forget its Jim Carrey and really get involved with the character. Kate Winslet was great as well.

Thumbs up, baby.

Well I think you're playing with me but it's full of all the music numbers from recent Bollywood flicks. Do you know any Bollywood?
It kicks ass! The ladies are super hot! The guys are super dorks. It's often unintentionally hilarious. Just fun to watch. If you're having a bad day, put this stuff on and all will be good.

Check out anything with Amisha Patel

or Sameera.

yesterday i saw million dollar baby- SUCKED. eastwood is a totally overrated director ( i didn't think mystic river was the masterpiece everyone said it was either - the performances were great, but thats where it ends), and a SHIT actor. he was basically dirty harry in this film, like he is in all films. and the film this one ripped off the most: the unforgiven, ANOTHER eastwood film. totally dissappointing - only worth seeing for hillary swank, who was quite good.

I loved Eternal sunshine, but Kill Bill two, for me it was a lot worst than the first.
I'm going to watch Vera Drake tomorrow, I hope that it is as good as it has been said.

Easy now, easy! The guy has been making great movies for years. I am also a bit dissapointed with his latest efforts, but lets not throw it all in the barrel. Lets cut him some slack, he is getting up there in age.

Well, of the three films I watched over the weekend KB2 was the most entertaining. I got thrown out of the theater on two seperate occasions while trying to sneak into this film (Hey, I bought tickets, I wouldn't steal, but they weren't for that particular film). I'm glad I finally got around to seeing the first thing. I thought Michael Madsen was top notch; I was glad to see him and QT working together again. I thought it did what (I at least thought) the first one set it up to do, answer the questions proposed in the first one. I think that together, the two films are sort of like comparing apples and oranges. They both share some similar qualities, but its hard to call one better than the other, simply because they are too different.

As for the other movies I watched over the weekend, FDTD is always a lot of fun, some great lines (see movie quotes thread for my favorite), and I thought that Lock Stock was better than Snatch, although I need to see that one again.

I just watched Leaving Las Vegas. It was OK, certainly some excellent performances. There were few surprises in the film, you kind of knew how the whole thing was gonna pan out, which does mean it loses something as a film for me. Cage's character was difficult to watch for the most part, which is how he should be, and Shue's character was the only one I had any affection for. That coupled with the expected ending (I'm glad it wasn't a happy one though), meant that it certainly was no feel-good movie, but I just felt there was something missing. It finished with me feeling a little indifferent, leaving only a memory of some fine performances, and not much else.

couldn't disagree more about MILLION DOLLAR BABY. i thought it was excellent. i think Clint Eastwood has truly proven himself as a masterful director. methodical, no frills.. straightforward well-crafted direction. excellent casting and a great script. i also thought his performance was excellent in the film. probably my #2 film of the year.

i really don't see what the big deal about million dollar baby is. honestly - you had two older actors playing INTO, not against their stereotypical roles, a script that went on far too long and was loaded with unrealistic elements (in what was meant to be a realistic film). the direction was so heavy handed that i honestly could not enjoy certain parts because i was being beaten over my head with it. straight forward can be done in a great way (the station agent, the straight story, sideways, the godfather) or it can be cliche. this film was cliche from top to bottom.

i thought EVERYTHING worked perfectly, "top to bottom" - the script (not exactly cliche. you can't tell me you saw it going in that direction).. the actors, Hillary Swank will probably win Best Actress and deserves it, Morgan Freeman's narration was as good as SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, Eastwood, the direction - i thought the pacing was perfect in this film. and the the slightly restrained directing style fit the story.

i can see not liking it. i don't usually go for this kind of (sappy) film, but i thought it was very well done.

to call Eastwood and overrated director and "shit" actor though.. those are fighting words.

i think the mark of a great actor is making you forget mid-film that they are an actor, and for a few minutes to beleive that they are their character - eastwood is always eastwood.

i thought the pacing was good, but the film is not built on that alone. i did see the film taking the turns it took, i just didn't know how it would get there (not the end end, but the 2/3 way through plot point). i really was hugely dissappointed - the most i've been in a theater since seeing mystic river - see a pattern forming?

but hey, i like wilco - so we'll just have to agree to disagree on this front. but i did join the quesedillamaster yahoo group today for some good recipes!

yeah, someone i work with didn't like it either. so of course we had a fist fight.

in the end though, i respect his opinion and he respects mine.

you know that restaurant she works at in the film? that's right down the street from my apartment. and the beach she runs on is exactly where i go running. which only added to my enjoyment of the film

I was watching Dodgeball last night. I'm not sure if it's good or not because I was answering questions from this girl I met Friday that is looking for love and marriage with in two years. Help me get rid of her!
