I washed away all my sin
I tried to call you on the telephone
And now I gotta do this all alone

I recall a bit of a strange answer from BF when he was asked what he did when Kim left and said he shaved his pubic hair.

I remember thinking that was a bit of a strange response - maybe symbolically that was him washing away his sin.

Then trying to call her on the phone and the feeling of having to do it on his own.

A line erased both figuratively (end of an era) and literally (Kim's parts being redone) seemingly repeating itself with Paz and maybe 'erased' is how she feels.

Just a thought, probably wrong but that's what came to mind when I heard the lyrics.

Oh and not a fan of the recent videos. Last decent video was Um Chagga Lagga, What Goes Boom still best.

I'm not seeing the Kim angle on this, but in almost every song I see a Violet angle. That breakup I'm sure is the profound one that really hurts and he keeps revisiting, 3 albums later.

Did Grand Duchy ever do anything with a saxophone? That line for whatever reason sounds like the musical side of their relationship, they tried it for awhile but ultimately that shit was blown. they ran out of time, they ran out of space, their line has been erased.

I like how the song ends super abruptly as well. Like an eraser has just swept through the song and left nothing in it's wake.

Motoroller is definitely loaded with soteriology that’s for sure, begs for a deeper look

From a recent Frank interview:
Can Thompson shed any light on what happened?

“Probably not, because I think that starts to get into people’s, you know… it’s a privacy issue,” he says. “But it became clear to us that we felt like she needed a break from our process, that something wasn’t right. And you know, I’m sure it did come as a surprise to her, but it was not a surprise to us.” He says “the rest of the band was in accord” it was either Pixies stop or proceed without her. “It wasn’t a callous moving forward.”

Kim angle on recent interview;

“She and I spoke on the telephone, but she was literally on the tarmac to fly back to Ohio. I think I was seeking some sort of closure, or understanding. And she did her best to come up with something that didn’t sound harsh, or unfriendly. It didn’t matter. She was on the f**king plane.”

Emma was really solid live, particularly her vocals, when I saw them in Melbourne and Sydney.

There were occasional moments where her and Dave had some push and pull tempo-wise. Dave is sitting pretty 'behind the beat' these days, and Emma sits more towards the front.

I've watched plenty of Paz era footage live and attended two concerts and I felt like she seems a more intuitive musician who can adapt and roll with the hiccups in a song a little easier than Emma does. I really do miss her in the band

Paz was also a energetic force
I guess she is the most showy musician in the Pixies ever
It was a thrill to see her

But I have a hard time Paz or even Kim singing as good on Primrose, Hypnotize and Mercy Me

They certainly let Emma demonstrate her strengths giving her so much vocal time.

I wonder whether her arrival is part of why BF is singing in such a baritone on so many tracks. Their voices an octave apart sound fantastic

Re: Paz's energy, I agree. I've never heard them play better than the Come on Pilgrim It's Surfer Rosa live recordings
