apl4eris, it is actually spelt aluminium here and is not just a pronounciation difference. i'm not really sure but i think there was an effort to make most of the elements end in "ium", which america ignored. |

because i'm sad...
Derived from the Latin ALUMEN for ALUM (Potassium aluminium sulphate). In 1761 French Chemist Louis-Bernard Guyton de Morveau proposed that ALUMINE for the base material of ALUM. De Morveau was instrumental in setting up a standardised system for chemical nomenclature and often collaborated with Antoine Lavoisier, who in 1787, suggested that ALUMINE was the oxide of a previously undiscovered metal.
In 1808 Sir Humphrey Davy proposed the name ALUMIUM for the metal. This rather unwieldy name was soon replaced by ALUMINUM and later the word ALUMINIUM was adopted by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemists in order to conform with the "ium" ending of most elements. By the mid-1800s both spellings were in use, indeed Charles Dickens commented at the time that he felt both names were too difficult for the masses to pronounce!

Hahaha, thanks Steve. I had no idea that aluminium was actually an official spelling but I suppose it makes sense.
BTW, unrelated but I did get your cover and will hopefully have it up by the weekend.

Nice -thanks PixieSteve. The mystery is solved...Why on Earth wouldn't the US pick up that spelling. I take it that Canada's periodic table spells it the same as the States, CoF?

Indeed they do... though most of our texts and so forth are actually from the US so it could be that we do spell it aluminium and I'm a victim of cultural seepage.

Along with that sludge from New York and New Jersey, aluminum seeps northward, causing Dean to develop Half-zheimer's and then to say things wrong (a gross form of Americanitis).
The real pressing question is, which aluminum is the one that protects us from those evil mind-control waves? Am I using the wrong damned one?!?

Not really. He said you did the same thing to get into the fraternity.
He never convinced me that I had to take all their loads even though you managed to.

I have no doubt that people DO do things like that to join fraternities, however I wouldn't know, having never gone through rush. But hey, doing something degrading like that to belong makes more sense than doing it just for the sake of being a fuckslut in my opinion

Douche bag. Its a very strange term that i've only recently discovered the meaning of. I don't think we have them in England and there isn't an equivalent word for it, not that i know of anyway.

We do use wanker alot, but thats someone who wanks, not some strange little bag that flushes out your vagina, although why people need to flush out their vaginas is beyond me. |

in the states, when referring to that feminine hygiene apparatus we normally just call it a douche. The term douchebag is normally reserved for use as an insult against someone
