Margaritas (yahooo!)

Beer (my favorite is Magic Hat but I also like Bass and Harpoon's IPA)

Red Wine

and Vodka Tonics

Sorry for the weird capitals - it all felt very sacred to me and needed Official Titles of Love.

i like tequilia. but not just any tequilia. Patron..

that's if i'm taking shots. though i'd rather have Patron in my margarita too, but i'll settle for less superior tequilia in a mixed drink.

of course all kinds of beer too. but Corona is kind of my default beer. like, what i automatically order if i don't think about it. don't get me wrong, i like all kinds of beer.. and if i'm in a good British or Irish pub i'm not going to order a Corona.. but i love the Mexican stuff i guess..

not much of a wine guy at all (except some red wine with a nice Italian dinner)..

starting to open up to scotch lately.. but only a little.

long live the coalition!

when it comes to beer i'm a purist. beer is not meant to be mixed with anything.. the idea of drinking clamato juice alone turns my stomach, but with beer?

putting clamato juice in a quality beer is like putting miracle whip on your chateaubriand..

i have to agree with floop.beer and (i'd add)wine are not meant to be mixed.i 've met a lot of spanish people that drink wine and cola.i don't remember how they call this abominium but it is of extremely bad taste to ruin wine with soft drinks.

Quick post before I hit the sack.. can't resist a post concerning alcohol.

Now that I am offcially old I tend to drink:

Red wine (usually Australian and often Cabernet Sauvignon)

Gin & Tonic (no, really)

and occasionally Drambuie, och aye the noo!

As a student I would drink anything. Have you ever heard of a 'Top Shelf Shandy'? You get a pint glass, half fill it with lager or bitter, then the rest is a mixture of spirits - creme de menthe, baileys, vodka, whiskey. Whatever really. My 'friends' bought this for me on my 21st. Not surprisingly my (conscious) celebrations ended early that night.

Good night.

Mmm, making love in our Coronas. The lime is a genius idea.
Newkie Brown, as I've already said, good red wine.
Jack & Coke, Gin & Tonic, Southern Comfort & lemonade.

Mmm, alcohol.

Where I come from they have what's called a 6/49, which is the name of the biggest lottery here. They give you a three-ounce shot glass with one each of the sixth (get it, 6?) bottle on the top shelf, the fourth from the next, then the ninth on the next shelf. It almost never comes out looking or smelling like something fit for human consumption, which is why it takes its name from a lottery, but it seems to be a rite of passage for a couple months when someone reaches age.

Nothing is ever something.

Martini, made with Tanqueray or Beefeater gin. Shaken, not stirred. And you can keep that damn olive, thank you.
Local Microbrews- Living here in Milwaukee provides lots of great choices.
German Beers- Even the worst beer there is much better than any American Corporate Swill.
Lindemann's Cherry Kriek (Belgium)- Liquid cherry pie, uncommonly good
Strongest Beer- In Belgium, I got a chance to try these 2. Bush, which was 12%, and Palm which was 8%. Those were like drinking shots!
Cheap Shit- Blatz, just good cheap beer, plus you can drink a lot and not worry about getting too wiped out.

Wouldn't go so far as piss water, and I certainly wouldn't rate a bourban above a scotch, but I do prefer an Irish whiskey. Jameson 1780 is one of my favourites, though hard to find over here, I usually have to pick it up at airport duty free shops

I'd go for:
1 - Whisk(e)y (Jameson 1780)
2 - Real ale (Old Peculiar)
3 - Red wine (Rioja)
after that I'll drink anything I can get my hands on

During my visit to Queensland with the Navy in 1997 we drank nothing but XXXX Bitter. I love that beer. We drank and drank and not once did we wake up the next day with a hangover. I tried Victoria Bitter but didn't like it at all. If you go to Queensland never ask for a Fosters.

During a layover in Ireland in Feb of this year my love for Guinness has grown. We were let off the plane for a 45 min layover and the airport opened the bar just for us. 200 men and woman in uniform headed to Crete, Greece the land of Uzo, Raki and Mythos. It was crazy watching the bartenders pour them. You probably have to go thru 4 years of college to get it right. Boy did those drinks really taste great.

Yes floop I really do like beer. The next round is on me.

If that is like licorice, Yes. Whenever we went out to dinner, in Crete, the waiters would automatically give you an after dinner shot. The only catch was they chose what you drank. I couldn't stand the Raki. It has an awful taste. The Uzo on the other hand went down smooth.

hahaha...i see that some of you have visited the land of Dionysus.permit me to explain something about ouzo and raki(a.k.a tsipouro, tsikoudia).Ouzo is not a long drink anyway not the stuff you would order in a club.traditionally you drink ouzo like an aperitif(don't know if i spell it right)before lunch accompanied by something to eat, usually quick snacks(mezes in greek)like meatballs, cheese etc.raki on the other hand is used as a digestive after a heavy dinner (since its almost 90°)pretty much as in Italy they use to drink grappa.
of course in greece people often exagerate specially in presence of tourists when they have to prove firstly their hospitality(in greece we often confuse hospitality with heavy drinking)secondly that they can drink without getting drunk.in all this add the particularity of Crete were people drink 24\7 go around armed and they get seriously offended if you don't accept the drinks they offer you,and you will understand why before visiting the island you should do some practice at home with a bottle.

Thanks for the clarity. I've been home since July and I still have a few "12 Ouzo" (can't believe I forgot how to spell it) to drink up. We were in Souda Bay and for the most part we were banned from Xania, but as soon as the nice weather came we were ready for the beach anyway. We spent most of our off hours in Platanias. I realize there are better party spots out east, but this was good enough for me. The one down side was how dirty the sand is. I would really have enjoyed it much more with my wife. What little fun I did have I still feel guilty.

my worst hangover of all time (and believe me, there are many) can be attributed to Ouzo. I went backpacking with a friend through Greece when I was 20. We hooked up with this British bloke who, oddly enough, liked to drink too..

Anyway, we drank an entire bottle (like, a large bottle).. i have no idea how much i actually drank, but i can tell you the next day was one of the worst days of my life..

[beware, possibly disgusting content]:

we we're checking out of our hostel.. almost out the door, when the owner of the hostel angerly approached us about a little detail involving mass amounts of vomit in the stairwell..

indeed, minutes prior to that, i had involuntairly projectile vomited all over the place..

obviously the polite thing to do would have been to mention it, or clean it up, but i just wanted to get the fuck out of there.

i wasn't so lucky.. the owner grabbed a mop and a bucket and forced me to clean it up while he stood there.. but that's not the worst part.. as i was mopping, the whole thing was grossing me out, and i was still sick, so i literally started vomiting onto the floor that i was mopping up.

counterproductive indeed.

that was one hangover where i literally was asking god to let me die. i wanted to die. and i'm not even religious..

Hi, I'm Brian, and I'm an alcoholic.

I like whiskey, gin, bourbon, vodka, scotch, red wine, and ale. I would have to list preferences as Jim Beam, Johnny Walker Red, Stoli, and Bass and Newcastle. Yum.

a pub by my place has an excellent excellent beer selection.. on tap and in bottles.

lately i've been getting this one (that they have on tap) called Horney Devil. i think it's brewed in San Diego.

not only does it taste great, but it's got 10.5% alcohol.. that's right. two of those and you're good to go.

here's a review:
Presentation: 1 pint 9 oz champagne magnum that is corked capped and foiled. From their web site the reddish foil denotes that this is the 2001 vintage.

Appearance: Thin but fluffy white lace, decent retention. Slightly hazed with a golden orange going on copper colour.

Smell: Orange blossom honey and coriander, peaches and pears perfume through the nostrils. Sweet estery alcohols have an underlying spiciness. Hint of yeast is powdery and lightly nutty with some earthiness also.

Taste: Medium to full in body, creamy and slick mouth feel. Carbonation is at a moderate level but still holds the crispness. Alcohol is noticeable from the get go. Esters are quite flamboyant with both spicy and fruity sweet flavours. Peppery with tropical fruit flavours, vague pineapple and a peach-mango mix keep things on the complex side and give a slight wine-like impression. Hops are there with a bitterness and bitterness only, light but spicy. Phenols are there but slightly restrained, trace medicinal flavours are noticeable. Malt flavours are sweet and to a point close to syrupy, honey-like flavours with very light caramel and shortbread flavours within. Alcohol is warming to the body, earthy in the back with light yeasty flavours and remnants of the esters and phenols.

Notes: What effort put into this ale, richly complex with such a lush and complex character. Big on sweetness but the other attributes of this brew hold up strong to keep it in check. Other than the head lacking, perhaps from the carbonation being a tad low, this beer is near perfection.
