Come On Pilgram and the recently released self-titled album were both part of the same recording session. Those two together add up to something comparable to doolittle. I especially like the alternate take of "here comes your man" and "down to the well" is a better version than the one used on Bossanova.

| Stick Come on Pilgrim and the 9 other Purple Tapes on one cd in the original Purple Tapes track listing and it works very well as an album. 17 songs of raw pixies - about 38 mins. very enjoyable |

| B-sides was released everywhere 4ad had the rights back in 2001, but then released properly this year in the US, when 4ad got the rights back from Elektra. |

This thread made me think a bit. I'd have to say:
1 - Surfa Rosa/Come on Pilgrim (have the combined CD and find it hard to choose between them)
2 - Doolittle
3 - Bossanova
4 - Trompe le Monde
So, chronologically decreasing in how much they delight me.
I find the Catholics era stuff just the opposite - generally speaking each one since FB&TC has improved on the last IMHO. Hell, can't wait til the next one!

Technically, I think what makes an album an album is somewhere between number of tracks and length of album. For example, Godspeed You Black Emperor's Lift Yr Skinny Fists... has only 4 tracks (same as an EP), but takes up two entire CD's, so go figure. Plus, give any NoFX et al record a spin, and 20-odd tracks take up less than half an hour. So I don't really know, which doesn't help.

B-Sides
Purple Tapes
I don't know how Purple Tapes got put last, but I haven't listened to it as much as I should have, I guess.

am i the only one who favours trompe le monde ? i love them all, but in my opinion, trompe le monde and bossanova do have the best songs on them. i mean, d=rxt, the sad punk, alec eiffel, dig for fire, allison, rock music, motorway to roswell, velouria, the happening...
may trompe le monde is produced very heavy, but i think the songs are just the strongest ones. anyone joining me ?

I probably listen to Trompe Le Monde more than the other albums but it is a close run thing.
I don't consider it to be a particularly 'heavy' album.....then I do have Slayer, Dead Kennedys, Deftones, Faith No More, Rammstein tinkling away in the background on a regular basis so I guess it is all relative. |
