Hey.
My job sucks ass. I work at Ruby Tuesday, and sometimes get very bored while I'm up on the grill side of the line flipping hamburgers (expensive hamburgers, at that) for a living. I know this is odd, but one day I began to wonder about the food I was cooking. I began to think about where all these animals had lived before they had been killed and processed and made into little compact increments of food that, to me, no longer even feel like food. As I flipped a burger, I wondered how many places pieces of that original cow were in right now. I had only a part of the original beast. I wondered about the cow's caretakers. That got me wondering if it had been treated kindly during life, or if it had been miserable for the cow from the get-go. I began to imagine the lives of the people that ran the farm that raised the cow. Little details. Like, what these people did in their spare time and such. Their hygeine habits, hobbies, etc. Perhaps the wife of the farmer who raised the cow that became the hamburger I cooked cheated on her husband with her aerobics instructor, or cable guy or someone. Maybe one of the farmhands that worked for the farmer gave the cow a friendly pat one day. I wondered what I personally had been up to during the lifetime of the cow. I wondered about the world events during the cow's lifetime. I could not connect the two images -- the beef patty I was cooking up like thousands before, and an actual animal -- together. By the way, I am not a vegetarian, nor have I ever had any qualms about eating meat. I just had this passing thought one day while I was at work.

I just realized my last post was not in the form of a question. But, if anybody's got a response, I'll be happy.
Really.
Anybody at all.
Any response.
It doesn't have to be about meat.
Really.
G'Bye.

Duck IS meat. Very good meat, actually, the few times I've had it.
Would you rather consume Daffy, or Donald?
If I were to eat one, I would rather eat Donald. He is plumper, and more healthy looking. Also, not to sound racist, but he seems like he would be the equivalent of all white meat, as opposed to dark. Daffy is like a mulatto meal. (A meal I recall from my childhood at Mc Donalds; much less PC days back then.)
Oh, by the way, if you ever wonder about the supremacy of Warner Brothers over Walt Disney, consider this: Goofy from Disney studios was a dog. He hung out with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Pluto was a dog also. Why could he not talk, and was Mickey's pet? HE AND GOOFY WERE THE SAME SPECIES, AND YET PLUTO COULD NOT TALK WHILE GOOFY COULD!!!

Yeah, I guess I'd eat Donald too. Although if I had to choose between any character, not only ducks, I'd like to try Bugs Bunny. With mustard.

These are very interesting reflections. I hope you have time to enjoy them. The breast of the duck is excellent meat. Thus I'd eat Dolly. What about a Dolly Duckburger? |

Who's Dolly? Ah, I get it. She's called Daisy over here. Who knows why they changed her name. At first I thought you were talking about Dolly the cloned sheep. Mutton is very tasty too. Would you eat Dolly although they cloned her?

Whilst we're talking about fictional characters, I'd just like to say that whilst i wouldn't necessarily want to eat her, the girl that played Batgirl in the 1960s series with Adam West was seriously tasty. |

Floop, you should just start a Fast Food Nation thread. I haven't had a chance to read it but it comes up in the forum often enough.
Or better yet, we should just start a FB book club. |

The cow would have been a dairy cow, almost all hamburger in the US and Canada comes from dairy cows.
She would have lived 4-6 years, in a stall most of that time, rarely seening the outdoors. She would have given birth to 4-6 calves (one a year, cows have a 9 month pregnancy much like us).
If those calves were male, they would have been sent off to the veal pens. If they were female, they'd have the same fate as their mom.
She would have spent no time with those calves, they're taken away hours or days after birth. She would be milked for about 9 months of the year, plagued with very painful mastitus the whole time.
Severe discomfort would also come from having a disproportionally large udder, and she'd have brittle bones from her breed being selectively bred to produce so much milk (i believe 20x's more since the 50's) - the demand leaches the calicium from her bones. Antibiotics, hormones and possibly the bovine growth hormone would have been injected into her reguarly.
The hamburger patty itself would be made up of the flesh from several, dozens, or even hundreds of different cows, such is the rendering process. |

You see, this is what I'm talking about re everyone starting shit. All of this unnecessary drama. Anyways this is a response to one of my posts by Dave,
i wouldn't argue that we 'can't' eat meat, nor are we physiologically unable. A better question is - 'how much meat can our bodies handle, or do we need'? Any nutritionist/dietician these days will tell you less is better. A few times a week, not every meal.
Sounds fair enough to me.

Any vegan will tell you that you 'need' to eat meat zero times a week. =)
I've been eating meat zero times a week for over 13yrs!
Every now and then i meet people who tell me 'you gotta eat meat, all them vegetarians are a bunch of weak and sick people, vegans worse'.
That changes when i tell them i'm vegan, and for how long. I also point out that there are way more 'sick and weak' folks, who do eat meat.
I'll agree you're rather hard-up to find a chubby vegan. |

Is there any truth to the rumor about KFC and other chicken-themed restaurants genetically altering their chickens to better raise them for human consumption? I've heard some wierd shit about that...like, chickens born with no beaks or feet and shit.

Yesterday I ate dog, has anyone ever tried it?? It's not actually that bad, although yesterday I had cold dog as opposed to dog that has just been cooked and is still hot. Not too sure about cold dog meat, but hot dog meat is alright, a little like beef. The only problem is that you have to partically shut your mind off to what you are eating.
Oh yeah. Swimmer, the old catwomen were much better than Michelle Pfeifer, especially the one that died whilst Batman was trying to help her....

Most people are disgusted when I tell them that I've eaten dog, but its quite nice, and Ive ate alot worse. Saying that I'd never eat cat, which is a delicacy here. Also chickens feet, and pigs trotters are something my girlfriend loves, but I wouldn't go near even with a barge pole.

Here I'm going to start shit. You know those Veggie Tales are a front for Christian what I would call propaganda. Took awhile for me to figure it out, but perhaps I'm not so bright.
I saw an interview with one of the creators where they said they only do Old Testament characters because it would be insulting to have Jesus played by a turnip (I made up the turnip part). But, I guess it's not insulting to have Moses played by a celery.
Add to that their voices are terribly annoying. |

"Scientists" are manipulating the genome of cows to remove the so-called stress gene, so that, when they are not killed before the slaughtering process (as most often is the case) they won't be stressed out about it. Aren't scientists cool?
I think it terrible that you would equate a vegan to a nazi. Meateaters kill, cage, torture, and perform nasty experiments upon animals, all for the sake of "bettering" themselves or satiating their appetites. Who sounds more like a nazi?
Sorry to be rude, but I hear that quite a bit and it bothers me more each time. I'm sure you don't mean it like it sounds.

Not to get into this specific application of the term, to me the applicability derives from strident fanaticism, not violence. The most successful nazis or facists would be of the non-violent variety, achieving uniformity of thought without even firing a shot. Hard as it may be to believe, this facism unto thought control is much more to be feared than that which tends to genocide, at least to those of us who place individual freedoms above all else. Violence alerts all, whereas the victims of thought control literally don't know what is happening to them. And that's why I fear the modern left more than I do the right, though neither show much reluctance when violence suits their purposes. In today's America the thought control momentum lies more with the left than with the right, whose influence over mindless ideology is in retreat. |

Is this the ultimate outcome of my original thread; for us to bog ourselves down in tough moral and ethical dilemmas that plague our society today; or is this a phase that will pass, at which time the fun will come back?

The term "Nazi" conjurs up visions of death and destruction in the minds of most, as it applies to fanatical eradication of non-pureblooded germans or in ideology. And, the vast majority of the leftists movements historically have been based on non-violence (i.e. Tian'anmen Square, Dr. Martin Luther King's march on DC, Gandhi, anti-war (war:the ultimate violence) sit-ins, etc). So I wonder what small minority of radical leftists that receive all the media coverage for their negative efforts you refer to.
The US government (assuming you are an American), run by the conservatives and religious right, are stripping away your individual freedoms at an alarming rate, while the far left, left of the Dem's with a few exceptions, are fighting to preserve those that remain and re-instate those that have been wiped out.
