I haven't seen it yet, but I got into those movies about a year ago and started thining they were hilarious. I used to hate them, now they really do make me laugh.

Those are the kind of movies that you have to suspend your intelligence for, and just take them for what they are. I won't say they are groundbreaking, but at least they are original. I remember a bunch of rip-off movies that came out after American Pie. Who thinks Mena Suvari is hot? I do, but don't know why exactly. She has a big forehead. Maybe it's just the topless scene she did in American Beauty, one of my favorite movies of all time. That and Blade Runner.

American Pie etc etc are just a return to the good old Sex Comedies of the 1980's.... like Screwballs, Porkies etc etc. I wouldn't say they are original. I haven't seen American Pie 2, or the new one but I thought that the first one was quite funny.

I never saw any of those movies. I guess maybe the American movies are not original, but few things under the sun these days are. Stuart, only see the new one if you think that people eating dog shit and eating out old ladies is funny. Otherwise, don't bother.

Yes, you are sick in the head, as am I, but not ONLY because you laughed at American Wedding.

I went to see this yesterday. I thought it was pretty funny. Definitely not a masterpiece, but of course I wasn't expecting one. I just wanted to be entertained. And I love Stifler!

Stifler is the best. The guy looks like a cross between Harrison Ford and Jim Carrey (with the faces he makes..) I would absolutely *love* to see him play the role of a 'younger' Indian Jones - he totally suits it.
There was a lot less 'sex' focus in this overall, i think that..uh..added to it..heh.. |

Eating dogshit and eating out old ladies..... I'm gonna watch it just for that! Imagine watching the old lacdies bit and then finding that you develop a boner.... now that would be a little strange.
As far as I remember Porkies and Screwballs were great films, but I watched them when I was a kid going through puberty so they are probably shocking. I recently watched Blazing Saddles, which as a kid was brilliant. I could only watch about 30 mins before I turned it off.

I still haven't seen the new one, but I probably will as soon as I get the money. Even though they're stupid movies they are pretty funny, but like Bazzaa said, they aren't exactly my cup of tea either.

As your resident theatre historian, I can confirm that the same basic New Comedy plot has been around since Menander wrote The Dyskolos over 2000 years ago. (OK, maybe without the pie-fucking, although some of these old plays are surprisingly bawdy in places.) |

I just finally saw American Pie I and II last week. Pretty funny. I think what really makes the films work (for me anyway) is that even though it's crass and rude, and all the kids want to do is get laid and party, they're basically nice kids. I mean, they aren't mean spirited or cruel in any way, just horny and young and lookin' for fun. And really, aren't we all? There's actually a weird sort of innocence about it. |

Aye, there's a certain amount of 'goodness' to all the debauchery. |
