Hi I'm trying to make a list of songs never played live, at least a partial one. I guess I'm gonna post songs I think were never played live and ask for additions of corrections, ok?
Frank Black: Places Named After Numbers, Adda Lee
Teenager of the Year: Fazer Eyes, Bad Wicked World, Pie in the Sky
Cult of Ray: Punk Rock City, Advanture and the Resolution, Dance War (Cult of Ray performed only once, I believe)
FB&TC: (The Man Who Was Too Loud was performed with Teenage Fanclub, but was it ever performed with the Catholics or with Frank's pre Catholic 'regular' bands?)
Pistolero: I Think I'm Trying to Lose it
Dog in the Sand: St. Francis Dam Disaster
Black Letter Days: 1826, Jet Black River
Devil's Workshop: His Kingly Cave, San Antonio TX, Modern Age, The Scene, The Fields of Marigold

Nope, I've heard Fields of Marigold twice when he was touring to promote BLD/DW last year at this time. Haven't heard any of the rest. |

i would add Pray For The Girls to that.. even though it's a TV show theme..
i'm pretty positive i've heard The Man Who Was Too Loud, and Adda Lee before..
i've definitely heard Bad Wicked World, Dance War, San Antonio TX, Modern Age and Kingly Cave..
i think he's probably played most everything at one time or another.. |

During the first tours for just FB, didn't he play pretty much every song off that album each night? |

I'm almost sure he played Dance War in Paris, '96. And Modern Age was played for a Peel Session I believe. Omer, are you certain that all the songs you didn't mention have been payed live?

Sure seems like it. I've got a couple three bootlegs from that tour which amount to the FB album "Live", not that I'm complaining. Kinda nice to have the entire album in a single show. Wouldn't be so bad if Frank made a point of it even today. On the other hand, given the amount of FB + FB&C material he has now, I guess audiences would expect more variety. If I had my druthers I've have it both ways: bootlegs from each tour covering the latest discs Live as well as offering the more varied sets he tends to play. |

Yep. My wife and I saw him on the first tour at the Palace in LA. As I recall he played just about every song off the first album. Of course there was zero chance of him playing a Pixies song back then. |

I saw the band play San Antonio, TX at the first of three shows I saw on the DW/BLD tour. So that one has been played live, albeit rarely... |

Places named after numbers/adda lee - they're on a bootleg called "no big deal" I have dance war immediately following the rocking version of Brackish Boy on a bootleg "turn on,tune in and black out" got Bad wicked world (from the ftp ? reading ? cant remember...) St francis dam disaster has been played, though i dont think i have a copy Modern age was on the "kitchen tapes" - where joey and frank were demoing it years ago
i'd love to hear Pray for the girls live (hint hint Harris....Frank....etc...)

King of Syam - any chance we'll trade that.
OK, cool that I got it wrong. I would like to get a reference or two for the shows where they played 'The Man Who Was Too Loud', 'Fields of Marigold' and 'San Antonio, TX'. I've heard several reports that he played 'His Kingly Cave' but never seen it on a live setlist. Same goes for 'St. Francis Dam Disaster'.
Vilande - no, I might have missed a bunch.
OK, so what about non album tracks? here's a short and almost certainly incomplete list:
1. Pray for the Girls 2. Surf Epic 3. Changing of the Guards (Dylan) 4. I'm Going Down (Springsteen) 5. Pan american Highway 6. The Big Hurt 7. Amnesia 8. 119 Years Ago 9. Vally of our hope 10. Everyone is Wrong (as far as I know was only played on the Peel session)

Well I don't really think he'd play 119 years ago since it's a Reeves Gabrels (or however you spell it) song. |

Yeah, I often wander why the guys don't play The Scene, its one of the best recent songs they've done.... they haven't played End of Miles recently either, which again baffles me. Has anyone heard End of Miles live, how does it sound??

Heh... I asked this awhile ago, it's on the FTP from one of the Toronto shows, which doesn't compare to live, but it might give you some sort of an idea. It's one of my favourites and I still have yet to hear it, but I bet it kicks the album version all to heck ala Jane. |

The Scene is really growing on me. I just thought it was decent at first, now I love it.
For some reason, Frank Black does NOT seem to want to play any Kenny G songs live. Personally, I think the Catholics would pull it off quite well. Frank B, Rich G, Scott B...

St Francis has never been played!
I would love to get a copy of a show with "Out of State" - how often has he played that? |

I saw them play "Out of State" once...I was hella pleased too, because I think that song is probably my favorite of off both DW and BLD.
Man, i WISH they would play Valley of our Hope. that is arguably one of my favorite Frank songs ever. |

Seems that they played Out Of State somewhat often during the late April/early May 2002 run. I saw them play it 3 times that tour.

I heard it acoustic in the last tour and it sounded great. I'm surprised they don't play it more since he says it's his favorite song. |

Kenny G! That would be cool. A couple of my mates (and this is no lie) saw Kenny G being chatted up by a prostitute in a whorehouse in Beijing aboout 6 months ago after he had been playing a string of gigs in Beijing. In Beijing you cannot avoid 'The G' as his music is played in every restaurant in town, that would probably change if they knew he was "potentially" a seasoned whore-shagger.

I seem to remember him playing St. Francis Dam Disaster solo at the Knitting factory in Hollywood before the album came out then later in Dublin in support of the album. I could be wrong.

among other stuff, he and dave p. busted out a brilliant version of End Of Miles at Amoeba Records in Hollywood last year.. it works great with just him on acoustic and dave p. on the pedal steel..
i think we should all campaign for Frank to play Pray For The Girls live sometime.. that seems to be one (great song) that no one seems to have ever heard live..
c'mon Frank.. pleeeease.. |
