two of the latests i like to play are 'modern age' (cause of the switch FDAmC to DFAmC in the choruses) and San Antone (again the chorus is fun to play).
But i notice that frank's songs are getting less and less easy to play : it's not the changes in time signature in the songs cause every FB fana is used to that but the songs are just getting more complex. I could play all of the first 3 albums w/out too many problems but things like (offhand) 85 weeks, or Billy Radcliffe or The man who was too loud, you gotta be a fair musician to play and sing along. (but i'm a shitty guitarist and i cannot sing, but that's nothing you should here me play piano...)

I can play a lot of pixie songs on my bass. I really like to play gouge away. It is very easy, but you know.

How about some Ether?

My current favorites to play on guitar are Velvety, Valentine and Garuda, California Bound, So. Bay and, as always, St. Francis Dam Disaster.

I play on the keys, and the FB&C's version of Gouge Away is always a lot of fun, 'specially if I have some friends on the guitar, bass, and drums. I love the organs that EDF came up with. Freedom Rock is also a lot of fun on the keys, but I really wish that for other songs like Robert Onion and so forth that there were piano 'tabs' or sheet music. Sometimes it can be hard to hear what the keys are doing in a song at a certain point.

Valentine and Garuda

Kind of complicated, but satisfying to learn, and play.

I like "places named after numbers" and I have been enjoying the simplicity of "Farewell Bend" lately. It just sounds good.

On acoustic, Bartholomew ( Finally!), I Gotta Move, Adda Lee, Brick Is Red, Blown Away
Electric: Fazer Eyes, Solid Gold, Pray A Little Faster, Caribou, No. 13 Baby
I'll usually lapse into one of the above while warming up....

electric guitar - Ole Mullholland pops up a lot. Dog in the Sand is beautiful with reverb and tremolo. So. Bay whenever I'm checking out an amp or overdrive pedal. Cynthia and I have performed Abstract Plain as a duo on a certain night where you are asked to do one cover by a great L.A. songwriter. "That's easy", we thought. Yeah, but which song...

I absolutely love to play Freedom Rock but I usually botch the chords, and always in a different place than the last time.

I'm completely hooked on Farewell Bend - thanks for the idea,
Wade. I'm a bit of a chump on acoustic, but that would be inspring to play. I would love to be able to play and sing St. Francis Dam Disaster for people. I think that song could long outlive Frank Black himself.

Well, as is often the case, 'favorite' has to mean more like 'top ten'...

...almost forgot, though I never was crazy about the song itself, Pie in the Sky is awesome to play on the electric. Lots of quick changes.

I think The Farewell Bend is my current favorite. I think it'll make for a good campfire song, even if I'm the only one singing.

What is the best FB song to learn for some who is just learning to play guitar? Keep in mind I have really big, bass playing fingertips, so I can't play certain chords.

How about some Ether?

Czar is always a good quick fix! The Swimmer is fantastic too....if it takes all night is good acoustic & for gigging.....hey they're all shit hot to play, but some seem to work better, and some never seem to work at all? any thoughts on that category?

freedom rock is really fun and I also love playing If it Takes All Night and So Hard To make Things Out ("In the nigh nigh nigh nigh night"). Those are just a couple that I really enjoy playing but they are all great songs.
85 weeks is a fun one too but it's hard to sing along with in the fast talking part

I've covered Dog Gone and You're Such A Wire in the past and currently have Man of Steel inserted into my repetoire. If I had a really good backing band I'd so want to do Western Star. That song seems like it would be really fun to play.

Has anyone else noticed that Bm and F# are used CONSTANTLY?

Yes, but his all-time favorite is definitely C#m.
Great sounding chord.

Reading this thread makes me realize that I have definitely fallen into patterns when writing chord structures. I use C#m into D a lot, and E7 into G (or Gm) quite often. I know exactly jack and shit about theory, so if coupling those chords together is "theoretically incorrect," then I apologize - they sound good to my ear.

St Francis Dam Disaster is my favourite song to play, coz it's one of my all time favourite FB+C tunes anyway, but also because I can sing and play it at the same time (wahey! though not as well as FB+C, natch).

Checked out your site MMBanner, looks cool, just wish I could understand Russian! Looks like there's a pretty big Pixies fanbase over there.
