Hello people,
I would like to hear from people about their choices for top ten albums that you must have. One catch though too keep it interesting,
no Frank Black as I already have or am actively seeking out all of his recordings that I am aware of.

Alright, thanks for the interesting challenge. I don't have as much free time anymore to listen to music intently for pleasure, and as a result, I'm probably going to fall back on some tried and true favorites from years past. By the way, Frank recently listed 10 records he feels were most influential to his musical evolution in a great newspaper article that can be found elsewhere on this site. You may find that enlightening.

You've got some excellent taste in music yourself, Mr. Radiator; The Posies, Chilton / Big Star (ain't "Like Flies..." a great album?), Lou, Dylan, Jonathan Richman, Luna, The Monks of Doom. Christ almighty, man. If you were a female I'd marry you on those virtues alone.
The Velvet Underground's third LP was fantastic. The last song I played during a very drunken impromptu jam session (wherein two of the four members of the group barely knew how to play an instrument, not that I'm a virtuoso or anything), we played "What Goes On," and the organ player played this amazing solo on a Hammond B3. The most fun I've ever had playing in a band.

Hmm.. I might go onto about 15 albums or so. They may not even make it into my cd player anymore, but they certainly shaped my idea of what make an artist fantastic. (Most of the discs are pre-1995. I think that's when I dropped-out altogether.)

Do you people realise I have to get a second job to finance these musical selections I have been offered? Hell, I geuss that means that I have too get a first job.(scratching my head in utter dismay)
Seriously though, I really think it is quite cool too see what everybody else listens too.

i have mentioned the the on this forum before. very good 80s/90s band. soul mining and dusk are definitely recommended to anyone feeling adventurous - the former has some of the best lyrics i have ever heard.
also - marquee moon (television)
and - of course - superfly (curtis mayfield). supa funky

I like to keep my Marquee Moon for speacial occasions, it's such a brillant album, I've over done listening to it alot so I like to ration it out now. Sly & the Family Stone are really good Bazza for funky fun shit and I would highly recommend Luke Vibrants Nuggets 1 or 2 to anyone who likes outer space funk Kraut Rock with bells on.

i love sly stone very much - theres a riot goin on is a fantastic album and as a huge funk fan his material is top notch. stand is the most uplifting song of his repertoire. nice.

Man, that's funny. My girlfriend of 11 years (let's just call her a wife) shares some of my musical tastes but not all, but I guess I'll keep her.
If you really dig the Velvets, you'll get a kick out of this story:
A few years back, I got drunk with Moe Tucker while she hustled me at pool in a trashy honky-tonk bar. Then I crashed on her couch and in the morning made her bacon and eggs and we watched Terms of Endearment.

You lucky duck! Moe Tucker is the best! I once saw her on a double bill with Jonathan Richman and she was hilarious. JoJo had spurned the chocolate chip cookies I brought him (I figured, well, "he eats with gusto, damn, you bet" so he might like cookies) and Mo was like, "Hell, bring em out here! I'll eat them!" So my husband and I sat around with Mo and Sterling at their little folding card table where she was selling CDs and she gave everyone who bought something a cookie. She smoked generic cigarettes and did the best damned version of "Bo Diddley' that I have ever heard. Anyone interested in Moe can get copies of her stuff straight from the source at:

Holy shit. I love both of those stories. I've only met one musician ever, and it was for like 30 seconds. Chris Xefos (of King Missile and Moth Wranglers fame) in Chattanooga, TN. at this bar I was watching him play at.
I said, "Good show."
He said, "Thanks."
We went our seperate ways. Exciting, no?
