Anyone have this new CD by Elvis Costello? I really like it, especially THERE'S A STORY IN YOUR VOICE (which is where my new sig comes from), and THE NAME OF THIS THING IS NOT LOVE.

Anyway, buy it. Thank you.

Like you, I am also a huge Costello fan Ramona. I bought his last one which I really liked. I hear this one is even better. I intend on checking it out. I let you know what I think.

I would like to know what you see in EC's work that you like. It does nothing for me, and yet I know so many whose taste I respect who enjoy it. Help me understand.

I could say go pick up "My Aim Is True" or "This Years Model". Both of these would be great starts. If you see them cheap, grab them. I especially love "This years Model". If you want something that is a great collection of much of his best early work see if you can find "Girls Girls Girls"

Okay here we go. I went looking for it on cd now and this guy has a list titled "Elvis Costello For Beginners".
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/listmania/list-browse/-/2EUH5DEF5C9CD/qid=1096605584/sr=5-3/ref=sr_5_3/104-5196382-9923932

All I can say is I was sixteen when "Punch the Clock" came out. I caught on to him after some of his best music was already out. When I went and listened to "This years Model" it was like I had stumbled onto some amazing secret thart none of the commoners knew or could possibly understand.
I was sixteen walking around highschool with "Elvis Costello Rules" written all over my book covers. All the burn outs were listening to Ozzie, Dokken or Dio.
I remember begging this kid I knew to go to an Elvis concert (45 bucks tenth row center) and he refused no matter how much I begged (He had the car). I subsequently had to sit through a Madonna concert and watch this little pansy friend of mine jump up down dancing and singing to all her songs (like A Virgin tour. the beastie boys opened). Eventually I quit hanging with him because he was calling me eighteen times a day. I was fairly sure puberty was confusing him.

A few years ago I started to see him out at the bars and he'd run up and tell me Elvis Costello was his favorite now.

This Years Model is my favorite too.

I also love Blood and Chocolate and Imperial Bedroom. He's just a great song writer - I love his lyrics and the way he phrases things. My best friend ADORES him and he has grown on me over the years. I have seen him 4 or 5 times in concert now too, he puts on a great show.

Uncomplicated has got to be one of my favorite songs by him. It's hard to say that because he has so many powerful songs.
If it wasn't for Elvis, I probably would never have discovered artists like Frank.

elvis is fantastic - a musician who truly has grown and matured with age, but without forgetting his past. he still performs "radio radio" and "allison" without cringing, unlike so many artists who try and distance themselves from their past by any means. plus, he takes chances and does a country covers album, an album w/ burt bacharach and now a work based on a shakespearean ballet. elvis is king!

it's becoming that time of year to whip out North. it's definitely nowhere near his best, but sometimes it just really hits the spot.
also, he's definitely beome very handsome in his later years. he was pretty goofy looking in the beginning, but now he just looks fucking classy. he can't take a bad picture nowadays.
