Anyone here heard/have the new Jonny Polonski album? Remember Frank produced his debut which was generally pretty charming... |

I had the misfortune of seeing him in concert opening up for Frank Black on some long-ago tour. Far from subscribing to Frank Black's workman-like, almost Protestant ethic, JP's stage presence was less than charming, almost petulant. The real problems occured as soon as he left the stage. He caused quite a rucus in the front of the club and started chucking beer bottles at some hangers-around near the dressing room. One broke all of yard away from my feet. Almost pegged me. The guy wasn't inebriated---to say so would be the understatement of the century. He was on a DRUNKEN RAMPAGE. As though he'd spent the better part of his life in his mommy and daddy's basement and didn't know what to do with his new-found freedom.
I normally don't have must of a tolerance for gossip-mongering or tabloid-peddling, but this is gospel truth; I witnessed it with my own eyes and was hit with some glass. A GG Allin JP ain't, but still, I was a little taken aback. Here's to hoping he's got his stuff straight since then. Was a shame; kind of liked his first record. |

I saw him a few times on the ' 95 Cult of Ray tour. He was okay. That's all that I know. I couldn't wait for the real band, though! |

i think he's great. and it will be interesting to see how much his music has matured. It's been about 9 years since the Hi My Name is Jonny EP. I've heard a few "demo" songs from a couple years ago though. good stuff

JP's new album is great, even better then HMNIJ maybe - more mature anyway. 32 minutes of real, pure rock'n'roll.
Derek: 'The Power of Sound' is actually JP's 4th album, after 'There's Something Wrong With You' (2001) and 'The Amazing Jonny Polonsky' (2003), a collection of demos and early songs. |

Btw, the 1st version of the new album featured 12 tracks and included some 'mellow', country-like songs which eventually didn't make the final cut cause JP felt they didn't fit in with the rest of the record. |
