Im not going to buy this album because i think doing pixies songs with another band is a load of bullshit. Its like Paul McCartney doing beatles songs with the twisted brown trucker band or something. |

That front cover is awesome! Listening to some of the FBF, some of it is pretty eerie and wierd like Orbitals early stuff. Wasn't too keen on the idea originally but it sounds cool. |

The Catholics aren't involved with FBF, are they?
Personally, I think Frank can play those songs with whatever band he wants. They're his songs, after all. I'm sure the Pixies versions will remain the definitive ones, though.

I don't know, Gouge Away isn't Gouge Away without the organ part. Or Kim's vocals. Kim needs to become a Catholic. Well, really, the Pixies just need to recruit Eric full time.

For Two Pale Boys fans in the US (though there only seem to be a few here), October is good month. Frank Black Francis comes out October 12 and then the next week, on October 19, the latest David Thomas & the Two Pale Boys album, 18 Monkeys on a Dead Man's Chest, gets released domestically.
I buy one new CD a week. Sometimes it's a struggle to figure out, but I know what I'm buying those two weeks. |

Or--as bad--that the Two Pale Boys are bullshit?
FB is showing very good taste associating himself with these fellows (as he did previously on Show me Yr Tears, and at David Thomas's Disastodrome extravaganza in Feb. 03); they happen to have made (with DT) the best album of the new millenium (Surfs Up!)! I nearly feel better about this project--philosophically, anyway--than the Pixies reunion. I mean, "doing Pixies songs with another band is bullshit" is the sort of nostalgia that justifies, like, Eagles reunions (Eagles in the first place--another issue). More power to FB if he can keep his songs alive and relavent--and not a pre-packaged spectacle that can take the kids back to a youth they never quite had (for $30) (and the shame of going to Lowell, MA)...
That said-- from what I've heard of FBF (Monkey, WIMM), FB seems to have given the Boys canned vocals to work with--he's singing to the beat of the Pixies versions... that makes Monkey seem rather flat (gotta keep up the beat); WIMM is much, much better--at least has the sound-perspective stuff they have with DT, if not exactly the sense of time exploding...
But (regarding the unimpressive Monkey) the 2pbs are not DJs. They do not do remixes. They are most exciting when creating their music live, in concert with the performing voice (cf Meadville, if you can)... I wish FB had done that instead of handing them vocal tracks. I mean, he could've gotten Fatboy Slim if that's what he wanted. Some good seems to have come of it, at least...
[Note: Seems to a quoting function that's lost on me... but we'll sort that out]
