Check out these alterations to these original SW trilogy-some of them are interesting, but I mean sticking Hayden Christensen in there is a bit much....on the subject of movies, I've recently seen Hellboy(okay-really liked some of it and was looking forward to seeing it, have to admit it's a bit messy ) Super Size Me(very good), also watched a few older movies in the last while(Amelie-terrific, the original Day Of The Jackyl, The Ipcress File, Brief Encounter-all great, plus the Sean Penn-directed The Pledge-good, very well made, the story got a little convoluted, though. Wanna see Open Water, mebbe this weekend.

All seems OK to me.
I too have seen Hellboy, and yeah it is OK, but nothing special. then again I didn't really expect too much.

Hmm, interesting changes. I guess they are all for the better...
homer- I didn't have many expectations for Hellboy either, so it was an amusing flick. |

I don't understand why a ghost that appears only to Luke would look nothing like what Luke knows.
Everything else is fine.
I originally had the impression that Jabba was sedentary. I liked the idea of a hulking brainy super-villain so full of sentient snacks he needed a forklift to travel. |

At the risk of exposing my Star Wars geekiness: Jabba grows in size until he can no longer move around on his own. In ANH, he's not at that point yet. Most Hutts eventually grow to that size, but they are mobile when they're younger.
Something about losing the guy that was Anakin in Luke's vision makes me sad, but it does make sense that the film be tweaked so that Anakin is consistent with who he is in the other films. I'm pretty okay with most of those changes, though I wish he'd just changed the Greedo scene back to how it was. That's not a "I'm unhappy/unable to make my vision" change. Other than that, all the new establishing shots and the revised Cloud City is cool. A few bloopers being cleaned up (Han's mysterious miracle jacket) no prob. Does seem sad that the original films will eventually never be seen in their original form again, though.

Yeah, I know, cannot wait. I'm also really looking forward to Battlegrounds. Kinda' pisses me off that they're putting out the x-box version first.
Did you play Galaxies at all? I think I might try it as I haven't been in on a MUD/MUSH since the all-text days, I'm just worried about the time consumption that's sure to follow.

What's the miracle jacket? I don't like Hayden being in Jedi at all and I'm hanging on to my original tapes for dear life because, you're right, Lucas is seeing to it that no one remembers the originals.

I beta tested SWG and it was pretty enjoyable...wasn't a hell of a lot to do and definitely not enough to keep me interested and pay $15 a month for.
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

Have you played any of the other MMORPGs, Jim? How did it stack up? I thought that my first graphical one in a Star Wars universe would be ideal as I'd already know the rules and a lot of the stuff plus have a deep love of that universe.
The miracle jacket occurs when Han is being frozen in carbonite. Watch closely. In the far shots, he's got just the white shirt, but in the close ups of his face/when he's about to go down, he's suddenly got a black jacket or vest or something.

The trilogy was fine, but some of the alterations are great but am I the only one when I say that Lucas goes overboard with computers? I mean lot's of the digital characters are just too fake, I want more men in suits!

Cult of Frank, it's not often I get to quiz a Star Wars, uh, geek. I have so many questions.
I vaguely remember a time before Return of the Jedi when someone told me there were nine books. I never hear 9 anymore? I sort of recall a series of 9 soft-cover books (more than 20 years ago). What happened? If they're after 4, 5 & 6 what is the storyline? I can guess it has to do with Han and Leia and probably some anger management problems with Luke. |

In 77 Lucas said that there were going to be twelve films total. This then got trimmed back to nine around 80 or so. Lucas was still saying nine up until 98. After phantom menace came out, he changed the tune to six. There were never any books of the offical tweleve or even nine stories back twenty years ago. Each movie gets a novelization when it comes out, but that's it. There have been sequel and prequel books by other authors, but they have not been Lucas' stories. The majority of them are very bad.
If anyone cares, the origional nine movie plan as of the shooting of empire, according to Gary Kurtz, the producer of star wars and empire, was this(roughly, I'm working from memory):
episode I: Establish the Jedi, their abilities and how they train. episode II: The adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi episode III: The adventures of Anikin Skywalker, and how he became Vader episode IV: As is. episode V: As is. episode VI: Luke confronts his father, defeats him, brings him back to the lightside, and he(vader) dies. Han also dies, leaving Leia alone, who has been crowned Queen of her people and withdrawn. Leia is not Luke's sister. episode VII: Adventures of Luke as a Jedi episode VIII: Luke mets up with his sister, not Leia, who was hidden somewhere across the galaxy. episode IX: The Emperor shows up and Luke and his sister team up to defeat him.
about the other triology: episodes X-XII: No real story, Lucas just thought that it would be fun to get everyone back together for a series when they were in their sixities. Lucas described this series as tangental anmd etheral. The first trilogy was grand and worldly, the secong was personal, and the third internal, having to deal with how to be a good person, teacher, etc. I believe that after he condensed VI-IX into Jedi, he made this loose storyline the new VII-IX, but since is was never really strongly tied into the overall story, he jetisoned it.
To the DVD changes: I've seen the new versions of Empire and Jedi and I think the nearly all the changes made have been very positive. The picture looks incredible, which is the most important thing, and most of the old sf/x have been composited. Thumbs up all the way.
the sound of ataris kills me and my friends 'cause we know that we'll never go back there again sometimes we play playstation but it's not the same |

my mate got addicted to swg, he'd play like 10 hours a day, straight, and that's with going to uni too for about 6 hours a day, he'd be coming in after having about 2 hours sleep... and it's all he ever talked about, it became his life (he's not big on going out anyway), he owned a shop in it and it never sounded that appealing to me... then again i don't like star wars...
And it's hard to be a human being, and it's harder as anything else, and I'm lonesome when you're around, and I'm never lonesome when I'm by myself, and I miss you when you're around. |

I don't know weather to get the boxset or wait and see if they're released again with deleated scenes/outtakes, being a DVD nerd and all. I hate it when things like that ar'nt included, although the 'Empire Of Dreams' doc. dose contain some unused footage and behind-the-scenes stuff. Oh yeah, Guillio Del Toro is releasing a 3-disc director's cut(10 mins. extra scenes)of Hellboy, so I think I'll hang on for that.

I thought I remember hearing somewhere that Jabba had contracted some sort of disease specific to Hutts, and that was why he looked so bloated and disgusting...I guess that's wrong since there's a female Hutt in one of the prequels (can't recall which one...) and she looks like Jabba. Have you ever heard this? Maybe it was in one of the books.

Yeah, when my (then) girlfriend and I were camping on the street for Phantom Menace tickets, there was a party beside the tent five up from ours where they were playing Star Wars trivial pursuit. I only remember a question about Alfred Newman's original Fox theme/John Williams, but that's not exactly an everyday fan question. Some seemed easy, others I remember not being able to answer.

I tried to play the SWTP once in college. Another kid and I were the only star wars fans and it was tough for us, and for the other people playing is was impossible, not to mention a little creepy. We knew the names and histories of way too many background characters that had no dialouge and weren't even addressed once in the films. It was really very sad. Boy I'm lame. |

I still enjoy watching episodes IV, V and VI on the original VHS tapes I used to tape them off Showtime in the 80's.
..but do look fwd to eye candy in new release.
Hopefully Lucas will stop when you can sit down and watch all six movies in one sitting, which i will do someday...with the assistance of certain modern pharmaceuticals.
On a tangent - does anyone happen to have a pre-director's cut of Blade Runner they would copy or part with? I just loved that last scene with the voiceover (only sunlight in entire movie and it WORKED) and the retards cut it. Email me clark(dot)gordon(at)eds(dot)com .

Quote from that Star Wars Unknown site: quote: In The Empire Strikes Back during the Asteroid chase scene when one of the Tie Fighters hits an asteroid you can see the the pilot go careering off into space as he is thrown from his ship in the explosion.
So the pilot is off to find a new profession in outer space.

No, I'm not nuts - I just haven't seen the original in ages and ages and want to see it.
The voiceover was cool - it was sort of comic-bookish...and well - I fucking LIKED it. I was a kid of course...
...and you're gonna sell me your copy for like $2 cause it sucks so bad, riiiight?
