I'm coaching an girls soccer team (under 8 years old) and after every game we're expected to give a little cheer for the other team and maybe the ref. But, I only know the old:
2,4,6,8 Who do we appreciate? Butterflies, butterflies (or whatever), yeah butterflies.
Anyone know any other little postgame chants? |

4 plus 4 is half of 16,
All for the Hurricanes,
Do the lean-a-lean-lean.
A-lean-a-lean-a-lean,
A-lean-a-lean-a-lean.
(and you all lean one way, then the other way)
I'll have more later... Good Luck with your time, I want updates, scores etc.

Oh my god you Americans are taking all the fun out of football chants. Over here it's far more abusive towards the opposition and referee. OK, maybe not at games involving children. Why do you have to sing anything at all? That's pretty daft really in my opinion.

It's called good sportsmanship and we also shake hands at the end of the game. They're 6 and 7 years old. |

This guy might be able to hook you up, darwin. It's free.
or, you have my crappy cheer made up in 10 seconds. You decide: The ref reports! <dance around in circle arms out then bent in to point at themselves> We're good sports! <thumb noses> So if you don't like it <thumbs in ears - hands waving> Then eat your shorts <turn and stick out butts?> Passive aggressive! Passive aggressive! P_C- A_G_G_R_E_S_S_I_V_E!
No good, huh?

Yeah shaking hands is expected at all ages, that is indeed good sportsmanship. The rest is just cheesy as hell. And bad music.

But on a seperate note Darwin, I realy admire you for coaching them. As a huge football fan (soccer to you guys), I appreciate anyone who promotes the game, especially to youngsters, and especially when you don't place major importance on them winning. Not keeping score is a good idea at that age. It shouldn't be too competitive for them whilst they fall in love with the game and develop their skill and ability on the ball. Good luck with the team and if you ever need any help/advice on anything football (soccer) related, other than the chants, then please ask.

For dramatic effect I was untruthful. The ref does keep score for the under 8s, but not for the under 6s (but the kids do). We do try to de-emphasize the winning/losing thing. For example, last week was our first game and our team had 8 players present and the other team only had 5 (at this age we play 7 vs 7). So, we ended up giving them one of our players (our best player who had a friend on the other team) and she pasted us with 3 or 4 goals. Yesterday at practice her teammates were giving her a good natured hardtime about scoring on them so often. Girl's sports is making a HUGE difference in this country, I think.
The singing thing is no big deal. Both teams do it and it last for maybe a minute. I always did it for baseball and soccer when I was a kid. |

I understand, it's an American thing. It just seems so odd to us English that invented the game.
Isn't female football the fastest growing sport in the US or something like that?

Maybe I'll try to write a chant:
1,2,3,4 Did anyone keep the score? 5,6,7,8 Our hearts are filled with love not hate.
HPM, Soccer is huge with the kids and it has been for last 10-15 years. Our league has around 2200 players in a town of about 60,000 and there is a smaller competing league. Watch out someday our men's team is going to be good, not top tier, but capable of beating anyone. Our women are already great, |

USA has good goalies for some reason - Tim Howard, Brad Friedl, Kasey Keller (maybe). But the rest of your team suck, with maybe the exception of Freddy Adu. America will never be good at football, and will always lose to England. I can make these sweeping statements secure in the knowledge that one day you will beat us - but we will still be better than you.
And as for Canada...
